  1. Picked up a box of the metal Harlequins (c. 2005, if memory serves) from Guardian Games tonight. I've unboxed them, laid them out, and am having some serious flashbacks to my pre-teen years... It's hard to believe that I used to routinely assemble entire armies of lead and pewter. These Jess Goodwin sculpts are intricate and finely detailed, but the assembly is orders of magnitude simpler than my old Wood Elf Forest Dragon or Imperial Army Sentinel... Yet I'm almost scared to put them together. Modern plastics technology has completely spoiled me.

  2. It is actually harder rather then easier to set up a challenge round, and it would have been extremely complicated with the other changes being rolled out this year. Since we have open gaming on Friday and Saturday night, you will certainly have time to arrange a game if you'd like. :)

  4. I actually kind of like that there aren't any vehicles or bikes in this game. I really like the idea of fire team on fire team action. It just feels more awesome to me. :D

  9. Balls, big hairy balls Can we have a round were we fire a pistol then all dash towards tables and set our own match ups. Maybe have fights between standard bearers and a drinking contest between captains?

  12. Masque of the Phantasm Background For the Harlequins there is no distinction between art and war; they are the archetypal warrior poets, traveling the labyrinthine expanses of the webway, bringing enlightenment to their audiences and certain death to the servants of darkness. — High Inquisitor Czevak, Letters to the Casophilians The Harlequins, or Rillietann as they are known in their foul xenos tongue, are a subset of normal Eldar society who apparently split their time between being talented battlefield fighters and theatrical performers. Harlequins organise themselves into two standard units, the troupe and the masque. A troupe seems to be a gathering of "regular" Harlequins — if such a word can apply to these aliens — and a masque will bring together multiple troupes and a small number of specialist performers under the leadership of a single Troupe Master or Ardathair (lit. High Avatar). As the degenerate Eldar are a scattered and dying race, Harlequins constantly tour the domains of their species as well as other places; Harlequins claim other species should be told the stories of the Eldar as well in their duty to perform. Your humble author entrusts you are able to see this claim as the obvious lie that it is. These dirty xenos wish to turn humanity against the wisdom of the Imperium, and sadly, some of our kin are gullible enough to fall for it! The Masque of the Phantasm is a small masque, recently reported to be in the Armageddon system. Their performances are often obsessively precise and detailed spectacles, conveying fatalistic despair... but with a strong theme of stoicism and retributive justice underlying it all. The universe is doomed, but we can meet that doom on one's own terms. Never compromising, even in the face of doomsday. The signature dance of the Masque of the Phantasm is known as "The Killing Joke," but has not been performed for Imperial observers in over a millennium. Starting Roster ( 1,000 Points ) • Mysta Jai, Troupe Master Harlequin's Blade, Shuriken Pistol; Concealed Blade, Flip Belt, Harlequin Mask, Holo-Suit • Har'leigh, Player Harlequin's Blade, Suriken Pistol; Concealed Blade, Flip Belt, Harlequin Mask, Holo-Suit • Qwnzl, Player Harlequin's Blade, Suriken Pistol; Concealed Blade, Flip Belt, Harlequin Mask, Holo-Suit • Duella, Virtuoso Harlequin's Blade, Shuriken Pistol; Concealed Blade, Flip Belt, Harlequin Mask, Holo-Suit

  13. I mostly prefer airbrush ready paint because the bottles tend to be easier to use. In my experience, "airbrush ready" really just means thin a bit less than regular. My brush has a pretty small needle though. I'd use the thinner bottle you have now, judge from there how much to get next time.

  17. In Gathering Storm 2, they talk about Khaine, Cegorach, and Ynnead forming a Trinity as the core of a revived Eldar Pantheon. Cegorach has long been known as The Laughing God, and Ynnead is referred to in several places as The Whispering God. I guess that makes Khaine The Yellin' God

  21. Oh, I wouldn't want them to be a regular feature of the game*, but a special mission where one or two vehicles played a part might be fun... For example, one player ambushing a Chimera/Rhino/Falcon/Devilfish that is carrying a key V.I.P. that the other player needs to escort... ...or maybe recreating the iconic Kelly's Heroes versus Tiger tank scene with a Predator. * Unless we get Gorkamorka back!

  24. For a quick-and-dirty way to casual game up and running, I think it would work almost perfectly just using Necromunda lists as written. I'd just use Necromunda stats for any equipment not currently in Shadow War. It'd be close enough. If you wanted everything to work out "perfectly balanced," you'd probably need to reduce the point values of a lot of the Hive Ganger's options a smidgen. This would involve a lot more complicated math and extensive playtesting... Well past my personal "point of diminishing returns."

  25. Personally I would vote for just allowing people to run their old gangs in the new system. If they have weapons in their inventory that have a points value in both games, then just use the points from the new game. For weapons that might only exist in the old game, then use the entry for the old game. I don't think it would break the game.

  38. Yeah,,I was looking for the starter box for the Skitari at the GW store but all starters for this game were sold out there... Im probably going to start an Iron Hands army to be my base Adeptus army and use this game as jump off point for it.They are very fluffy allies with Ad Mech so I can branch out with it if the next version of 40k looks good:)

  41. Last night, I did a little work on my Warlord's display base. Putting a Warlord on a big base looks cool, but during game play I prefer keep his footprint on the table as small as possible. This makes it easier for me to move my Warlord in between my units and around enemy units and obstacles. My solution to the cool vs utility problem is to base my Warlord on a regular base (my "game base") and then create a large display base with a magnetized insert for my Warlord's base. Below is an example of what this looks like. The last time I did this I placed the Warlord's game base on the display base and puttied around it with grey-stuff. This technique worked fairly well, but the sides of the insert weren't vertical so I had to reshape the hole with a hobby knife. This time, the plan is to use a styrene cut out to create the insert. Because of my Warlord's pose, the other models on the base need to be in motion. My plan is to have Mordred accompanied by huge mastiff. The war hound will be leaping at a hapless Saxon warrior who is reeling back in terror. The mastiff and victim models haven't arrived yet, so the mock-up pictured below includes a stand-in for the war puppy. The 60mm base doesn't leave much room for Saxon, so I've ordered some 4 inch (102 mm) bases from LITKO.

  43. Sing - 4/10 - Everything worth watching you saw in the trailers, except the final 5 minute finally. You can youtube that and not have to waste 1.5 hours of your life. Unless you have kids, then it's a cool animal movie and there is a decent sound track to it.
