  1. Just watched the FB live feed Q&A about 8th edition. One of the biggest takeaways was that if you bought a rulebook within 8 weeks of the announcement of the new game (which was last week IIRC) then you get a voucher for the purchase price. Aaron Dembski Bowden was one of the guys talking, he's a delight.I'm happy to hear that they have been doing a ton of playtesting with good tournament players and have been working towards making every unit valuable. Blast and Templates are gone too which I love. There's now a new hybrid between standard Force Org and Formations. Essentially there are 16 different force orgs that anyone can use and filling them out completely grants various bonuses. Tanks and MCs now work the same with T and W and both degrade in quality as they get wounded. The whole thing sounds great!

  2. Blasts were always gamey. Too easy to manipulate their effectiveness by spreading and on models with large bases. They are also ludicrously time consuming to place and scatter and determine models hit. No idea what the actual method will be but I suspect something along the lines of roll to hit. Hit = D6 hits Miss = D6-3 hits. Large adds +2 hits.

  3. Starting here. Movement is definitely in Vehicles do not have armor values. Vehicles have a damage table that reduces their stats as they take damage. Different Armies will keep their playstyles Still a d6 system They are trying to speed up a game of 40k, 1500pt game in 90minutes now. Narrative with 3 ways to play with connections for shadow wars, campaigns etc. City fighting etc. All models will receive rules in the new edition, including vehicles and scenery Command Points: If you fill your force org chart you gain command points. There are 14 force org charts. You can spend command points to interrupt game play. You may only use one per phase. Thematic armies will get more command points. Templates are going away A lot of playtesting has gone on. Reese and Frankie from Las Vegas Open, and Mike from Nova have done tons of the playtesting. Everyone will get their new rules day 1. 5 books, will have the rules for all the armies at a very low price point. Codexes will come out with new additional thematic updates at a future update Expansions like cities of death, planet strike, will be brought up to speed. Every unit has been playtested and has been balanced. This will be the most robust and balanced edition of 40k. there wont be any broken units like riptides There will be an annual update book "like the Generals Handbook" They want the game to evolve the game with community feedback. Yes there will be an army builder app, but its not ready yet. There are not specific tournament rules, but there are guidelines for organizers. They are pushing the thematic battle between the Imperium and Chaos, so they are focusing on it. All the factions and models will be represented in the new edition 2 different ways to play with point values. Power Level: narrative play- gives you values for squads regardless of what they are equipped with Matched Play: Full points with upgrades like normal detail All current armies will be in the new edition. Any new factions Coming: Yes Monstrous Creatures will also lose stats like vehicles. Everything can hurt everything.... lasguns hurting tanks was mentioned No stat is capped at 10 Bigger weapons do more damage. Allied forces will still be available. Cross army bonuses will be limited now, meaning that a space marine army will give bonuses to other adeptus astartes models. Still has an allied chart. Deathstars were called loopholes in the rules. Keywords structure for the game for rules. There are Benefits to sticking to a single faction like command points. There was a little oversight on the new galaxy map, so no many places were not destroyed. the term "8th" was mentioned Forgeworld rules will be available in the same way. Storyline will continue forward for the next few years, but with no radical changes to storyline. If you just bought a codex or rulebook.... The customer service team will be handing out vouchers within 8 weeks of the announcement to cover the cost of the rulebook.

  4. I'm excited, been ready for a change from 7th for a while. Im hoping that they're play testers are on the ball, it would be nice to bring out some of the old armies :) Make 40k great again! ;)

  5. Little sad that templates are leaving. Now you can just place your models willy nilly with relationship to each other. Clump em up, it dont matter.

  6. Mixed emotions, big time. I know this is entirely my fault, but I bought a pile of 7e stuff and got almost no play time in so $$++. However, perceived rules-bloat was one of the big obstructions to getting games in more often -- and it looks like the next edition will really help out with that. Can't decide if I should be slagging GW, or praising them to the heavens..

  9. Looks like they learned quite a bit from the AoS launch. I wish they had done it the other way around. I do hope it works. I have sunk thousands into 40K and would really like an edition that brings me back to playing.

  10. It weas called "sound tactics" to spread out and "poor play" not to. Hehehe. I dont know about "manipulating" anything. But your point on time is well taken and less moving around the table, for me, my back, my poor eyesight and my patience over people who seem to always find a way to exclude two models that are obviously under the blast will be good for me. Lol. Less arguments, faster games. Sounds solid thinking to me.

  11. Well it looks fine to me. I will have a ton of unusable templates and blasts which makes me sad.

  12. I feel like those were always envisioned as a single force, but were basically split in two for marketing purposes. It's been frustrating to me since they first dropped, and I'm really happy about them getting consolidated into one!

  13. I'm excited about the Skitarii / Cult merger. I've got a Skitarii core with a Cohort Cybernetica now - I look forward to fielding a Tech-Priest Dominus more like an HQ choice for my entire army rather than tied to a certain formation. I have both codexes, which I think I'll actually hold on to for the fluff and purty pictures.

  19. I have decided to attempt to build and paint an all goblin (gitmob grots) army for OFCC. Any feedback on the list would be appreciated. Also wanted to post updates on progress in order to keep myself in track cause otherwise I tend to get distracted with other projects. I have about 90% of the models with 10% built and 0% painted so I have a long way to go since the army has a model count of 191. I have no idea if I will be able to get it done by OFCC but I will give it my best shot. Anyway the list is as follows Great Gitmob battalion 100pts 60 goblins with bows 300pts 60 goblins with bows 300pts 20 goblins with spears 100pts 6 wolf chariots 240pts 12 nasty skulkers 160pts 12 nasty skulkers 160pts 12 nasty skulkers 160pts 1 goblin shaman 80pts 1 goblin boss on wolf with battle brew 60pts Non battalion units 1 goblin boss 60 pts General with bellowing tyrant, talisman of protection 1 goblin shaman 80pts 5 wolf chariots of 10 wolf riders 200 pts Still trying to decide on the last one. I have the wolf riders but I like the wolf chariots more. If I can get a good deal on eBay for the chariots I will go with them. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  20. This game rules. Hands down best game I've gotten into since WHFB back in 5th edition. If anyone is interested in learning the game let me know and Id be happy to demo a game with you. In in Vancouver/PDX.

  21. Also, I love that all the ITC haters out there have to eat crow considering that Reece and Frankie got name dropped as big time contributors to the playtesting of 8th edition. That makes me super happy because I always believed in what they were doing and GW obviously agreed.

  22. weird. Those things are worlds apart in my mind. It doesn't matter in any event. it wont change the game play itself all that much. Just more rolling and less squinting.

  23. Call it what you want, but it always took me out of the game to see units in big Os or spread out to the max. To me, that's just as abusive as min maxing (not that I didn't do it too!) or any of the other frowned on tactics in 40k.

  24. I guess I should also post the list I'm trying to bring. Plaguetouched Warband/Battalion -140 28x Chaos Warriors, MoN - 540 10x Chaos Marauders, MoN - 60 10x Chaos Marauders, MoN- 60 10x Chaos Marauders, MoN - 60 5x Blightkings - 180 5x Blightkings - 180 Harbinger of Decay, General, Talisman of Protection - 140 Sorcerer Lord on mount, MoN , Crown of Command- 120 Non-battalion units Be'Lalkor - 240 Sayl - 160 Summoning pool -120 10x Plaguebearers - 100 Sideboard- 500 3x Stormfiends - 300 Warplighting cannon - 180 I'm thinking of dropping one unit of blightkings and a bringing a 10 man unit of Marauders to 28 guys. Which would make room to add a unit of dogs to my summoning pool I guess. The reason for 28 guys it the battalion needs units divisible by 7. If they are, every time a enemy model rolls a 6 to hit that unit they take a mortal wound. So ultimately the game plan is to buff up the Chaos Warriors (2w, 3+/5++, reroll 1's for saves/hit/wound, 5+/5++ against mortal wounds, -2 to hit for first round of combat, -1 all the time) and have them sit in the middle of the board and multi charge and generally not die. While that happens the rest of the army denies the board to movement from the enemy and claims objectives. Be'Lakor trolls and tanks, also applies wounds to anything that needs rend. Sayl launches the warriors 18' up the table then gives other unit mobility to fill any gaps in the line. Generally, the army is meant to just grind the opponent down. I haven't got much testing in, but the little I have is against Tzeetch skyfire list and it went very well.

  25. Fanatics are Night Goblins (moonclan) I wanted to keep this army with only one kind of goblins. It's fluffier that way and I already have an all night goblin army so I wanted to try something different. The 2 goblin units with bows get 60 shots each hitting units they outnumber on 2's and wounding them on 5's(4 if they outnumber them 2 to 1) The skulkers hide in units of "gitmob grots" with 5 or more models so they could go with the chariots or the goblins and the chariots are super fast with the destruction move +12 inch base move and the ability to run and shoot and charge not to mention rerolls to run and charge rolls. I was thinking using them to flank and grab objectives and having the goblins wear other units down with numbers.

  28. I played Joel last night. Joel did a great thing. He tried a new typeof list and faction. Instead of playing his foxtrot picket and defensive grunt fireteam, he went for a hunter style list with Pan-O. He had a Seraph, Father Night, Black Friar, Joan and Order Sgt link team. He played out of his comfort zone and I applaud him for it. The biggest hurdle for him in the game was a deployment. He left Joan in an area where she could be picked out with a few orders. HIs Tag had no luck, my Ghulam sniper crit it twice. I had luck on my side. Joel rolled well. I rolled stupidly well. We talked about deployment after the game. After gaming, Jeff and I went to Scout and talked about life and Infinity. Not a bad day at all. See you next week.

  31. Well I screwed up last night. I pushed up to fast and hard into the center half of the table. Overextended my Harris link into an area that had too many fire lanes for me to cover. Got the crap shot out of me. In the end only had the Celestial Guard with Kuang Shi controller left standing. Great game though! Thanks Jay for schooling a newb.

  35. To be fair to savion47, my big shoota did all the work at full range (36"), and managed not to run out of ammo until the 3rd turn of shooting when he just happened to down a GK. at least 15 shots, I think.... The rest of the boyz just ran forward and yelled "look over here"

  37. Just about fully built,12 more models to go,but this is my OFCC list I will likely be playing.Ive built it in the spirit of OFCC being rather fluffy and mild compared to the more competative "Thunder Rukk"(Bonespliiters Kunning Ruck teamed up with 3 BCR T-Tusk Huskars) and "Double Kunning Rukk" builds seen in major tournaments Wurrgog Prophet,,General Wardokk..this guy will have the "Big Wurggog Mask magical artifact,,need to figure out how im going to build it still.I want it to be sufficiantly huge,,as in at least 1/2 the size of the model itself. Kunning Rukk: Savage Bigboss w/Lucky Bone artifact..already mounted a huge bone on his back so hes ready for paint. 10 Savage Orruks Choppa and Shield w/full command 40 Savage Arrer Boyz w/full command Snagga Rukk 2x Maniak Wierdnob 4x 5 Savage Boarboy Maniaks, all with full command Teef Rukk 2x2 Savage Big Stabbas 78 models 197 wounds It does have a full 40 Arrerboyz but beyound that im going rather soft and fluffy.I wanted to go with the Snagga Rukk for the hammer/mobile units. Also I just have to use those Savage Stabbas lol. Its going to ba a struggle to play this list fast with all the die rolling both from attacks but also from the army wide 6+ vs anything save. I am running 3 Rukks so between the special rules for those,4 artifacts to distribute and 4 casters all getting 4 additional lore spells,I should have alot of fun options to play with:) Got about 1/3 of these models painted and based so lotsa work to do yet...along with a few terrain pieces for the event.

  39. Just started watching Bill Nye Saves the world on Netflix. They are 30 minute shows, so they don't go into great depth on topics, but they present a good base of knowledge on each subject they cover. I am only 3 episodes in and they all have been interesting: global warming, GMOs, and how life may have started on earth. Edit: forgot ... 8/10

I've added a few models to my army, a set of regimental advisors, tech priests, psykers and moar commissars! I have a full platoon of Tempestus Scions at the same time as well. I think the next thing I need is a new carrying case, I am looking at the battlefoam 1520 xl....

  47. Other than the General's Handbook, everything you need can be downloaded for free from GW's website. The Core Rules are linked down at the bottom of the main page, along with compendiums for all the stuff left over from WHFB. Alternately, you can get the Warscrolls for just the Units you need from those Units' pages in GW's web store. As a third option, there's a free AoS app for Android or iOS, and you can download the Warscrolls through that.
