  1. Photo Spread: Purajh and Pretre done and linked in line below. WarlordGhom pending Early Screening: Pending Friday of OFCC All in - 4/4 tickets purchased! Going Old School: 2/4 Lists No Surprises Purajh While I have been on the forums for a while and I collect many armies, this will be my first full tournament I am playing in. Playing Necrons to help fit the narrative my team was wanting to tell, I decided I wanted to make a list that was not one of the overpowering Decurion’s. I decided to keep it old school and tell the story of a C’tan arriving at an old tomb world and activating the protocols to awaken the tomb. With only some basic units online to help wake up the remainder of the tomb, and a single monolith ready to defend. The stirring of the tomb has brought far more attention than the C’tan had planned on…. Pretre A long time bane of the forums and occasional player of tournaments, I am captaining my first OFCC team! This will be my first outing with Deathwatch and they were conceived of, built and painted for this event. It represents a slightly larger Deathwatch task force tasked with the containment of an ancient Xenos threat. Unfortunately, it looks like they aren't the only ones interested in Things Best Forgotten. AgentP I'm a long time 40k player, and many-time OFCC attendee, Ordo senator, and this year Game Czar. In the story this team is telling, my AdMech did some digging on a world they should not have been digging on - awakening Tom's Necron's in the process. Now the Deathwatch and Eldar have appeared to try and stem the tide, but it may be too late. I'm a little nervous about this army since it has so many little fiddly rules in 7th edition. I plan to largely ignore most of those and drink. WarlordGhrom I'm (Seth) a long time games workshop fan and player since Rogue Trader days. Been playing Eldar since then as well and only army I play in the 40k universe. And play is an odd term for myself as I get in 1 game every year or two max these days. Haven't played a game since OFCC 2 years ago for example. So a bit rusty with the rules. I'm fairly good at strategy but as I haven't played much 40k (probably 7 games in last 5 years including an OFCC) I'll be middle of the pack at best in playing level. The Malone Ranger I am a long time 40k player, playing since 3rd edition. I have been on a break for a few editions and now I am back. I started off playing a war convocation and have them painted based on my college colors (OSU Beavers). This is my first OFCC ever and will be the first time I have had to pay for wargear. I look forward to some fun games and having a good time! 2. Well it finally happened. It all started when I decided to learn how to play AoS since I'll be responsible for fielding rule questions at Red Castle. Now I'm deep in thought on the matter of what color to trim my Stormcast Eternals armor in and what head swaps I want to make. Anyone looking to get mauled by or maul a clueless noob is welcome to drop by Saturday.

  11. Gonna have to agree with Fluger here. Mark three, although far from my favorite game, effectively doubled their point system to add more granularity to the game and not to add more models. I also keep reading your assertion about what the clocks are for in Warmachine and you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what they're for. Clocks have been standard in WM since 2012 for all events (long before the current edition launched) and are there to ensure that both players get an equal allotment of the round time. Most games that use the I-go-you-go system would benefit from such an inclusion on a competitive level to remove slow play as a factor. I'm sure most competitive 40k players understand the absurdity that is losing a game because someone brought an all Warp Spider list/horde list and couldn't operate it fast enough to give both players an equal share of the round.

  14. Are you looking for a team for the 40k OFCC event? Do you like playing terrible armies, drinking beer, and emphasizing sportsmanship? If so, I have a team for you! Comment below or private message me if interested. We currently have a Khorne Daemonkin and Astra Militarum army, with nothing in common except snow bases. EDIT: alternatively if you have a team and are looking for two players with good attitudes, reasonably well painted armies, and a high alcohol tolerance let me know!

  15. It can be both. When it's time to summon, just wander on over to your sideboard of demons and quietly powwow about about which ones you need.

  16. Demon players do get an advantage of sorts in that they can choose what type of demon they're paying for as the situation dictates, not having to specify it pre-game. Pretty cool

  19. "It also means that, in the future, points for units could change without invalidating existing books – so if one unit or weapon starts to dominate tournaments, or certain units don’t seem to be carrying their weight in competitive games, we can address the balance." Boom! I'm sold.

  21. Just posted the results. We may both retire our teams so we didn't roll $ or MVP or Fans. We can do that at the next game night. A fine day of blood bowl brings last seasons champions the Necromatic Murder Junkies and an up and coming Lizardman team Temple Tzlanta into the Championship game. The Lizards didn't make the playoffs last season and have gone with a controversial ball handling Saurus this season. These two teams met in the last game before the playoffs this year, and the Necros ran all around the the lizard team. With the returning Star werewolf Dee Dee making an appearance, will this be a repeat of the 3-1 drubbing? Stay tuned. With fine weather, a few more zombies crawled into the stadium for the Junkies giving their players a little lift. The Necros cut a reroll to reduce their Team value and the Lizards brought Slibli onto the field. In a desperate bid, a Halfling Chef was also brought into the game! Lets see if the undead will care! The Necros win the toss and elect to receive, losing little to the halflings food offers, Gaining it back with fan support on the kickoff. The Lizards elect to be very wide in their deployment and the Necros easily cover the ball with their Star and knock down a Lizard. The Lizard pull in the wide sides and try to bash their way to victory, to no avail. The Necros use their extraordinary speed to reverse direction twice and try to trap the Lizards on the wrong half but the Bashing takes effect removing a zombie, a Wight and a Flesh Golem from the game! only the Wight failed to regenerate and he will have a permanent limp after this. The Necros easily get past the line of the Lizards but the Star Slibli takes out another Zombie and clears the way for a blitz popping the ball loose! A grab from a skink and 2 go for its ends the half 1-0 for the Lizards! The second half starts, and a knocked out Wight kept looking for his head on the sidelines. So the Lizards have the advantage with the Necros down to 10 men. The Necros kicker places the ball right on the wide line and get a perfect defense against the flatfooted Lizards. Two Flesh Golems cover the ball and things are looking good for the Junkies. The Lizards commit as much as they can on the sidelines and take out a Zombie. A skink jumps onto the ball and picks it up, dodging out to cover. The Lizards kept the skink in the middle of the pitch in a cage, but the AG4 werewolf dodged on a 5 and slammed the skink to the ground. the Lizards recovered and a skink ran as fast as his feet could carry him, in a play the Lizards call a "skink punt". The remaining Flesh Golem dodged away to make a play and tripped on his two left feet, taking him out of the game but not before a quick werewolf popped the ball out again! With their numbers dwindling, the Necros could not stop repeated blitzes and the Star Dee Dee is taken from the game on a stretcher! A skink dodges in for a touchdown and the game ends 2-0 for the Lizards.

  22. I think it's great as a substitute for points in demo/intro games, but its value will drop quickly as they start asking "why should I take flamer/meltagun/plasma?' And, 'Which should I glue on the model?" The system suggests that doesn't matter, but it will to someone trying to understand the game. Those are the questions that take the longest to answer in list building too, it's not the adding numbers up. And I think we all struggle to dial it back when teaching, we play these games because we're some level of competitive. It seems like this loose structure reinforces that possibility and only puts more of a burden of self-restraint to an experienced player. Min-maxing squads has no downside whatsoever, so very "low power" lists would be things like spamming 3 man squads of scatterbikes, 5 man sternguard packed to the gills, etc. If you want to play with a handicap, take a 1750 list against your casual buddy's 2k (don't tell him if he'll take offense). At least the upgrades have a more honest "true value" in the list you're using. Again, I have nothing against it's existence but I just wonder if it'll actually be as practical as it first seems.

  25. Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone needed any work done. I'm trying to more quickly unbury myself from an abrupt mountain of debt I've accumulated to make sure I can get to the OFCC. I dont want pity or hand outs but if you have any projects you need help with let me know. I don't claim to be particularly skilled in any 1 thing but whatever you have whether it be a painting commission or yard work I'm sure I can help out.

  27. I'm surprised people aren't giving themselves more time to assimilate. After all it IS competitive play so on some level you want less "ah ha, I gotcha!" moments and more steady play. It'll be interested to see the lists that come out of it.

  30. It does seem like a nerf to the Demon players,yes..however it's highly likely that those armies will have units with a special rule allowing models within the unit to be brought back,,as it is in AoS.

  31. Well, depending on the player and the scenario we would be running, I would allow for unlimited summoning. However, I can see writing the base rules in a way that doesn't allow for it. Otherwise, that guy comes around and ruins it for everyone. I HATE that guy.

  33. Thanks for the write up kb10r and congratulations on the winning the season. Well that is it folks. We have a Champion. Thank you everyone who played for making another great league happen. I am hoping to have a start date and the rules for our next season posted here very soon. There will only be some small minor changes, but as you may know, there is another Death Zone slated to drop very soon and I would like to see if there are any rules changes there before committing to the next season.

  34. I guess I should post here instead of hijacking the KDM thread. So I'm about 7 hours into DS the Board Game & here's some changes I made based on what other people are also thinking. Hollow grunts/bowman = 1 soul per player Silver knights = 2 souls per player Hollow large soldiers = 3 souls per player Mini-bosses = 5 souls per player Main bosses = 8 souls per player Players can only spend their own souls to level up but anyone can buy equipment. Resting doesn't use a spark but does reset everything. If a player dies it uses a spark & everyone drops their souls. You have to clear the room you died in to get them back. You can sell back 2 treasure cards to Andre for 1 soul each. I was going through the campaign mode & I read the amount of souls you get per kill & thought "that can't be right. Are they [big bad swear word]ing kidding me?" as it's impossible feeling to get anywhere at the rate they suggest in the rulebook. Two souls per encounter, leveling up costs double & equipment costs double? Maybe I'm just a softy, though. Is anyone finding the base rules fairly balanced? Maybe I'm playing something wrong rules-wise? Maybe it's a lot easier playing 4 player? No idea but the base ruleset seemed pretty ridiculous to me as far as the risk-vs-reward part is concerned. I haven't made it to a mini-boss yet (the kid & I are really close) but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna use a lot of sparks on that as it's double-gargoyles in the campaign mode! My other thought is, while it's pretty fun (I'm a total soulsborne fanboy though so take that with a grain) it feels like parts are missing that will require the stretch goals to make complete. IE: some spells feel like I really need that cleric or sorcerer model or they're just a wasted treasure card. Embers really feel incomplete without invaders or summoned npc assistants (SUNBRO 4 LYFE!!). I'm guessing, come October, that will all be rectified but right now the core game feels like it has parts that were meant to be played with the full gamut of addons that we haven't all received yet.

  44. On the topic of speeding up play, I really recommend downloading a chess-clock app so each player can see how long they're taking individually without needing a third party. It's super helpful for understanding the idea of respectful time use (i.e. not using your opponent's half of the time) which is something I find too many wargamers have a difficult time with.

  45. I am still working out n the command room.... At game night, I tried to help Justin and Joel with play. I tried them on a stop clock to let them know how long they were playing and help them speed up for OFCC play. Joel had no luck. Justin responded with multiple crits..... Then, I faced Evan. Evan went first and took the command room with a scout. The scout raided the panolpies and ended up with Armor 5! I advanced my Muyib link and shot up his Chassuer, hacker, and antipodes. My one Muyib tanked six shots. I wanted to sacrifice him to take out the antipodes. It worked, but I didn't expect the Muyib to live. Evan moved up his Spez and jumped into combat with one Muyib using smoke. The scout killed the other. For my second turn, I ran up Farzan and kill Uncle V, his antipode controller and his other Spetz. In his final turn, Evan's Spetz killed my Muyib in combat. For mine, I ran up my Ghulams into the Command room area. One ran in, discovery and shot his scout with a crib to win the room. I won 6-3.
