  2. Heya SAGA folks, I continue to hear great things about the game - and stumble across some great looking armies! I've seen some older posts about local SAGA groups or folks who have loaner armies and wondering if any folks are interested in demoing a learning game. I'm limited to meeting at the SE PDX clubhouse but can be available most Game Nights to swing by. Several historical periods interest me, as well as age of magic. Curious about the game, local community, generally have a bunch of questions to annoy you with 😉 Appreciate it!
  3. These were kicking around the on Trudvang FB page as Trud models, but I think they look more like Saga minis
  4. Some tables reserved for SAGA (BYO Warbands) Saturday June 24 at Guardian Games, 2:00-6:00. More info at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Rosecity.Bondi/?ref=br_tf
  5. Some tables reserved for SAGA (BYO Warbands) next Saturday (May 20) at Guardian Games, 2:00-6:00. More info at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Rosecity.Bondi/?ref=br_tf
  6. Thanks to Koyote, I've been getting back into SAGA. Finally painted some of my models (22 more models to go).
  7. Trying to get a big enough group together to run an Age of the Wolf campaign in the South Sound. Fairly low entry point to a great game if you don't already have it.
  8. Members in good standing of the Northwest Historical Miniature Gaming Society (NHMGS) will be playing skirmish level games such as SAGA and Pikeman's Lament at Guardian Games on April 22, from 2 to 6 (in the back bar, so 21+ only). See 'Portland Historical Wargaming' facebook page for more info (https://www.facebook.com/groups/Rosecity.Bondi/?ref=bookmarks). Drop us a line if you have questions or see you there
  9. Please join fellow historical miniature enthusiasts for an afternoon of skirmish gaming. Play will certainly include SAGA, and perhaps Lion Rampant or something of a WWII flavor. As a rule of thumb, if you bring a SAGA faction, you will find an opponent. Meet in the back bar of Guardian Games, 2pm to 6pm, on Saturday January 21st.
  10. This month's Portland Historical Wargaming day is Saturday, September 24, 2pm-6pm at Guardian Games in 'Critical Sip' (21+only). There will be SAGA dark ages skirmish gaming (at least 3-4 players at the least). In October we should get back to running some demo games set in other periods.
  11. The next Portland Historical Wargaming day is Saturday, August 27th, from 2pm to 6pm at Guardian Games (in the back bar). Due to a lot of scheduling conflicts there will only be SAGA on tap this time around, so bring your dark age warband of choice for a game or two (I am brining an Irish warband). Be seeing you.
  12. The next Portland Historical Wargaming day is Saturday, July 23rd, from 2pm to 6pm at Guardian Games (in the back bar). There will be another game of "Pikes Rampant" (an English Civil War pike & shotte variant of the Lion Rampant rules) and one or two participants are needed for this game. There will also be a SAGA warband (or two) loitering around and thus available for a game or two - so bring your dark ages faction of choice if you'd like. There will also be a game of Blucher (tabletop Napoleonic wargame) taking one or two players There will also be free stickers. Say what? Free stickers? Yep, free stickers.
  13. The next Portland Historical Wargaming day is Saturday, June 18th, from 2pm to 6pm at Guardian Games (in the back bar). There will be a game of "Pikes Rampant" (an English Civil War pike & shotte variant of the Lion Rampant rules) and one or two participants are needed for this game. There will also be a SAGA warband (or two) loitering around and thus available for a game or two - so bring your dark ages faction of choice if you'd like.
  14. April 23 is the next Portland Historical Wargames Day, 2pm-6pm at Guardian Games (in the bar). There will be an instructional/demonstrational game of the Napoleonic naval game 'Sails of Glory'. As always, SAGA players are welcome - a heads up that you are bringing your dark ages army to play this game is always appreciated. There will also definitely be a game of Lion Rampant for those interested in seeing how that medieval skirmish game works.
  15. March 19 is the next Portland Historical Wargaming day, 2pm-6pm at Guardian Games (in the bar). 15mm armies will be provided for an instructional/demo game (or two) of De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) 3.0. Additionally, Bolt Action, SAGA, and/or Lion Rampant players are welcome. Please respond if you are interested in bringing your army to play one of these games. We will likely settle on one or the other of these games when we get closer to the 19th, depending on feedback. There may be an English Civil War game using a variation of the Lion Rampant rules as well.
  16. Our next wargames day will be February 20th starting at 2pm at Guardian Games (in the bar). There will be a demo game of SAGA in 28mm - please respond if you would like to participate in this demo game. The demo game is kindly hosted by Gabe. Aside from the demonstration, we will also be playing Lion Rampant and/or SAGA (we will probably settle on one or the when we get closer to the 20th, depending on feedback). Please respond if you are interested in brining an army to play one of these games. Thanks to everyone who came out on Jan. 23rd, see you again soon!
  17. We'll be having our monthly wargames day get-together on January 23rd, 2-6pm at Guardian Games. There will be a demo game of Bolt Action in 15mm (kindly run by Jesse) - please respond to this email if you think you would like to participate in that demo. Semi-related to my email earlier today, we are also seeking players (with armies ready) for Lion Rampant or Saga in 28mm. Please respond if you are interested in bringing an army to play one of those games and we will set you up with an opponent. If you don't have a SAGA or Lion Rampant army, but are curious about trying one out, we can easily arrange a demo/playtest for that as well - just respond before the 23rd so one of us will know to bring extra figures.
  18. Got a couple of demo games in the other day - what a fun game! Simple rules, quick play, good basic strategy in regards to movement and counter-punching, and some interesting combos with the battle boards. The fatigue system is really great, as well. I'm looking to build a generic band that can work as Vikings, Anglo-Danes, Pagan Rus, and Norse-Gaels. Maybe Jomsvikings, though folks tell me they are truly terrible. I'm looking at Wargames Factory plastics and Gripping Beasts plastics as possibilities. I think I like the thicker weapons and more solid poses of the Gripping Beasts, though the price of the Wargames Factory is attractive. So, what armaments do you look for to represent the different model types? My current thoughts are as follows, but I'm not really sure if there are any pre-existing standards here: Hearthguard - Armoured, Helmeted, Swords and Shields (with Dane Axes for the Anglo-Danes) Warriors - Combo of armoured and unarmoured, armed with shields and axes or spears Levy - Unarmoured, few (or no) shields, axes, spears, slings/bows Does that sound right? WHat armament combinations do you use to represent the different troop types?
  19. Olympic Cards & Comics is hosting a four-game event for Saga. Four-point games (one-point sideboard). If you want to learn to play, we will have folks doing demos as well. We will fire up at 12:30pm, and while we should be done roughly 5pm, the terrain will stay out as long as folks want to roll dice! No entry fee, just a semi-formal affair. For Facebook users, it is up as an event at https://www.facebook.com/events/1536638663224413
