AoS Skirmish??

Recommended Posts

I have thought that they needed an official way to play skirmish battles and this looks to be the answer. I wonder if you will only be able to take hero (non-monsters) at least in the picture it looks to be that way. If it is only hero's it would be easy to implement using the point values from the GH. If they do allow you to use single models in a unit they will have to assign points to individual models. I wonder if this official play style will be in the GH2. I have so many hero characters this would be so cool, can't wait for this.

The Ironjawz in the photo are a pair of Brutes, a 'Ardboy, and a Weirdnob Shaman... only the Shaman is a Hero.

The Flesh-Eaters appear to be a single Crypt Flayer and a lot of Ghouls. Neither of those are Heroes.

The Stormcasts all appear to be basic Liberators, which aren't Heroes, and a Knight Questor who is a Hero.

The Khorneflakes are a Wrathmonger and Exalted Deathbringer. The Deathbringer is a Hero, the Wrathmonger is not.

My best guess is we'll see a setup similar to SW:A. A single Hero-type model as the Leader, "elite" basic battleline troops as Troopers, a priest/wizard/utility model as the Specialist/Gunner equivalent, and "poor" basic battleline troops as New Recruits.

So Ironjawz will probably be a Brute Boss (leader), Brute (trooper), Shaman (specialist), and 'Ardboyz (new recruits).

Stormcasts might be a Knight (leader), Liberators (troopers), and Paladin (specialist). With either no specific new recruit type (a la Grey Knights) or just with a Liberator with a worse statline (a la Scouts).

Obviously, this basic model would change as needed for the various factions.

Ah cool sounds good, yah after making that hero statement and looking closer I was thinking I was wrong about the hero thing. Either way I can't wait to see what this rule set ends up looking like. I hope that it is set up for playing single (stand alone) games and a campaign system. I also hope that all of the rules are in the GH2. Its a good excuse for buying a few models from different armies to get yourself started (yes I am looking at you Kharadron's).

Its a trap. ;)  But Im biased.

Lots of little skirmish games giving big war games a run for their money, gotta keep up. I'll just have to wait and see how it translates from AOS down to a smaller game like this perhaps they'll add wrinkles of depth. I really want to like it. My Skaven havent seen the tabletop in a very long time...

  • 2 weeks later...

Copied from the rumor thread at TGA--

"Skirmish has just gone up for pre-order, along with some Skirmish Team box sets:

Skirmish Rulebook £6
Khorne Bloodbound Frenzied Goretribe £40
Flesh Eater Court Nightfeast Hunters £40
Ironjawz Weirdnob Warband £40
Stormcast Eternal Hammerstrike Brethren £40

Khorne set has Wrathmongers, Exalted Deathbringer and Blood Warriors, don't know about the others.

Also coming is a new Soulblight Necorpolis Battle Mat (4 x 4 again) and a Sigmarite Mausoleum, £50, is two Garden of Morrs combined.

Oh, and new 40k apparently 'end of the month', but no specific date given. "

If true it looks like its just a rulebook and some reboxed stuff.

Should be very easy for regular AoSers to get into then:)

I dropped the 85.00 for the 40k GW city battle mat over the weekend,I knew it was overpriced but damn!..its top notch quality,I can see it lasting a long time.I may even pick up this Soulblight one if its print looks good.

And ive yet to collect a Garden of Morrs,,looks like im getting 2 now,lol

£40 is an interesting price point; most of the character models in the Skirmish preview pic retail for around £20... I wonder exactly what comes in these sets? The Ironjawz set seems like a strong indication that there's going to be a Weirdnob Shaman in that one at least.

Ironjawz Brutez retail for £30, the Shaman is £20... Both in one box with a £10 discount? In the past I'd have called this madness, but several of the Star Collecting boxes offer even bigger savings.

Given that I plan to add oodles of Brutes and at least one Shaman to my Ironjawz army...

I was really hoping they would have just made this new ruleset part of the GH2, I am worried about how willing people will be about adopting this format with it being a separate rulebook. But the price point is certainly low, I am still going to get one and would love to see some local events adopt this ruleset and use it.

Well, if the rulebook is the same approximate length as SW:A and the rules are more akin to the Necromunda/Mordheim/SW:A level than the AoS one... Then they probably couldn't fit it into the next GHB.

I was not able to watch much of the Warhammer TV broadcast today about AoS Skirmish. But from the pieces of information I did get it sounds about exactly what I wanted. They have a full campaign structure with 6 missions. Plus they have rules for Skirmish being run at a matched play multi-round event with escalating points. I can't wait to pick up this low cost book and test it out with my son, battles are only supposed to last around an hour. I have noticed from playing standard AoS at lower point values the game does not play that well with quite a few of the missions from the GH1. This will be a great way to play the full game with a ton less models and a ton less time. I will most likely try and run some local events with this new rule set, can't wait!

Are all the various factions supported?

(Specifically: Can my daughter use her new Sylvaneth to stomp on her Dad's Ironjawz?)

The only stuff that doesnt seem supported is mainly from the legacy armies,,but from what I read,if theres a warscroll and points value from the GHB for the unit/model,,it will still be very easy to figure the points in skirmish for it,,I believe its 1/5 the GHB value.

I bet since those armies are so new, you should have no problem playing against each other. But it does sound like the included models are quite cherry picked, I heard that even the Ogroid Thaumaturge model is not in the book. Since that unit can inflict up to D6 mortal wounds and bring out new models I wonder if they left him out because they did not want those kinds of abilities in a small model count game.
