Bolo
So, I am thinking of adding a pair of Sturmtigers to my "Totenkopf" Gray Wolf force ... the pair are reluctant trained ... but before I take the leap and invest ... has anyone played them? How do they do out on the board? Pro's & con's? Looking for feedback here ... Are they worth it or are they just mere eye candy?
Lord Hanaur
I think the better question is: do you care if its just eye candy? That much awesome has GOT to be fielded at any point one can justify it.
xipetotec
So the sturmtiger out of Grey wolf is awful (as far as I remember they never erratad them to match the Nuts version). You get one attempt to range in, then hit things under the template as conscript. The odds really aren't with you on that one. Sure it can ruin a building's day but a) buildings aren't really that rewarding to be in in FOW int he first place and b) Nobody in their right mind would ever put a unit in a building when there is a sturmtiger around The ones in Nuts are a little better as they lose the indirect fire and gain a 48" direct fire. But even then, in general, there are better things in the slot they take up.
ZEKE
Which rule set do you use with them? I believe they changed up the rules on them in "Nuts". I've been looking at them in conjunction with Volksgrenadiers, they would be in-lieu of Brumbars. Some of their points costs is because of their role, they are more like specialists in their use rather than a unit that can do alot of things. A cheap infantry company would be able to field them with better support options around and have the points for their specialty costs. As for their actual capabilities, I have bought them since I love the model, but I haven't gotten around to using them since I still have to get a german infantry company . Bolo
I was going to use the Grey Wolf rules as they are simple and strait forward ... Reluctant conscript ... unit of two ... so unit moral checks not an issue if I loose one. Armor 12 in the front. They range in on 5's (one shot each with a standard temp-let) and hit on 5's. Any thing soft and squishy like troops and trucks that get hit, get no save and in a building that is hit (ranged in) everything not armored is destroyed and the armor vehicles get saves of one or two against AT 6 on the top with FP 1+. This unit would be in place of a mech infantry platoon. So what I am hearing is "cool model" but not a great unit?
xipetotec
So what I am hearing is "cool model" but not a great unit? That would be my asesment. I'm pretty sure I've never actually killed anything with a sturmtiger.
Lord Hanaur
That would be my asesment. I'm pretty sure I've never actually killed anything with a sturmtiger. I think the thing to focus in on here is that it's awesome. And the law says...clearly, and I quote: "That which is awesome must be fielded". So basically if you own them you are required, BY LAW to field them.
