ThatDarnSatan
I hear the special edition Johanna is on her way, and I'd love to get my hands on one! Unfortunately I haven't seen Malifaux on the shelves since I moved to Seattle. Is there an LFGS here that carries the game? Seattle Wargaming was where I got my first fix, but they, alas, are long gone.
dkieft
I don't know about stores, but I know the Malifaux scene is kinda dead around there. And unfortunately many shops have let it drop off after they started re-releasing new versions of the old stuff.
Yarbicus
Games and Gizmoes in Redmond caries Malifaux (a little bit) so I am sure that they can order it for you. Does Card Kingdom in Ballard carry Malifaux? Not sure.
dkieft
Wow... and I see that you get her by buying... a Gremlin crew... that every Gremlin player doesn't need unless they are just replacing models they already own...
ThatDarnSatan
Card Kingdom did not, last I checked, but I will check out GnG when she starts shipping. The only other store I know that carries Malifaux is in San Francisco, so even a little stock is a good thing. I didn't think it was just crew boxes, but selected bits of everything. Not true? I'm planning on getting the new gremlins anyway, for they are groovy. :)
Marcalla
Well looks like its not just gremlins you can get her from. I think the convict gunslingers are going to be a popular choice.
ThatDarnSatan
Yeah, they're really nice miniatures. Danny Trejo, what took ya so long?
dkieft
Danny Trejo, what took ya so long? Machete don't text. Marcalla: So this May we have the first of the much awaited plastic Gremlins and to celebrate Som'er's box will contain a human they captured by the name of Johana. Johana is a special edition model that will be initially available through retailers. Her stats are the same as her 'alter' ego Johan. In the upcoming months we will be inserting her into a set number of crew boxes which will be marked as containing this free figure as our way of thanking you for supporting both Wyrd and your FLGS! No Johana for buying desperate mercs Unfortunately I doubt this "thank you" will be enough to make up for the enormous screwing the FLGS's got in how Wyrd handled the switch to plastic.
ThatDarnSatan
What's handled? They didn't just start offering plastic to stores?
dkieft
What's handled? They didn't just start offering plastic to stores? Well, any store with an investment in Malifaux mini's has a pile of metal on their shelves. These are the stores that really supported Wyrd. But, Wyrd, while expanding the game (as in more game pieces needing new mini's (not yet released)), began re-releasing existing miniatures instead of starting plastics off with new model types. This meant that as each wave of plastic came out, the metal sitting on store shelves became worthless. And even before a specific new plastic hit, the metal counterpart was waning in value because people woulds just wait for the new model. Anyway, that's the short version. Veskit
not to mention the metal models don't come with new cards so you've got to spend more on getting the 2E cards for them, and that until recently half of their stock didn't even have rules for them in 2E... list goes on and on... Swan-of-War
That explains it - I was wondering why it seemed like everyone was dumping Wyrd (e.g. Chaos Orc)
ThatDarnSatan
Makes sense ... you definitely wouldn't want the plastics on the shelves at the same time as the metals, the new shinies competing with older stuff. I'd like to think a company would offer some kind of buy-back scheme for previous-edition merchandise in that case, but ... apparently not! Whatever broke with the change to 2E, I hope the scene bounces back. Podcasts seem to indicate the game is flourishing in spite of the rocky shift, though locally, I find it hard to tell. It'd be nice to have an LFGS again. It seems wrong that a major city like Seattle is so short on Malifaux.
Rage
Johanna will definitely be in each Som'er Teef box set, and they're scheduled to hit stores around May 30th. Card Kingdom was getting some of the newer boxes on and off, and you could probably ask at the counter if it would be possible to order one for yourself. Alternatively, the Game Matrix down in Tacoma has the full line. I work in University Village up in Seattle, live in Tacoma, and would be perfectly willing to grab anything you'd like to pick up and pass it off to you. Could be a good excuse to get some gaming in too- I'm getting a Malifaux group going down in Tacoma, and I know there is definitely some potential up in Seattle for another group.
Swan-of-War
I was paging through the latest rulebook and didn't care for the new artwork. Perdita in particular
ThatDarnSatan
Heck yeah, Rage. I believe you and I were talking last year about getting some Malifaux in, though we didn't quite manage to connect for any actual games. I need to schedule everything rather than just show up on a game night, so that might be a little restrictive, but I'm totally up for a game. I'd play twice a week if I could. In any case, maybe I need to schedule a weekend trip down to Tacoma once the new stuff is out. The Game Matrix sounds promising.
Yarbicus
I was paging through the latest rulebook and didn't care for the new artwork. Perdita in particular How about the actual figs? Some of the plastics are amazing (like the Guild Riflemen).
dkieft
I agree with Swan on the new art, much of it is just 'meh' (not that I could draw better, just not fond of the style). BUT... It seems to translate well into models...
esperatus
Malifaux seems to be back from the dead @Card Kingdom. Interest is rising. Product is moving, slowly. Games are happening sporadically.
Guest Mr. Bigglesworth
Good luck guys. Crossroad got me completely pumped for this game.
Kremmet
There is a small, but rather dedicated group of Malifaux players at GnG in Redmond although carrying the product is a no due to how Wyrd treats their releases. Basically everything is listed as a "limited release" regardless of whether it's a base box or no as Wyrd doesn't consistently do runs of models. lindyhopper
I'm in Redmond and I'd love to get some story scenario Malifaux games in. I was thinking of trying to get something semi-regular going at the new Mox Boarding House in Bellevue. Now that the 2e models and cards are all finally out, I was hoping to get some actual games in, rather than just painting the figures... Are there any other interested folks? Any Meetup groups for East-Side (and/or Seattle) Malifaux?
Kremmet
Unfortunately, none of the regular Malifaux players I know frequent this forum so it might be a little hard to setup. I do know that GnG in Redmond has plans to start running small Malifaux events starting in the new year if you're interested in some games. I doubt they'll fully be story driven as that requires a bit too much commitment to Sparkle Motion for these guys, but you'll fully be able to get games in. You could also likely done down on most Tuesday nights and get a game. Things get a little rough sometimes due to work obligations, but there's likely at least one person there willing to play.
