Grom20
Anyone playing around Salem area? This has gotten me back into fantasy and am hoping to find some others out there to get back into it. I know the fear is it is a game that really isn't supported so many of the people that have been playing old Warhammer have left...why? Just wanting to feel the communities reasons why they are wanting to play or have stopped playing. Would like to build up community again so we can get some games in in the future!!! Kremmet
I'm gonna try to drag people out of the woodwork in the Seattle area, but I haven't heard of a concentrated effort on the west coast yet.
Grom20
Seems like if anyone has been following the 9th age site or YouTube lots of people are getting back into it. Just hopping to see the community give it a go dust off the mini's and role some dice. :)
Kremmet
Yeah, I see a lot of people, but not a lot on this coast. I'm hoping that changes.
savion47
I could be convinced to come down to Salem for a 1 day tournament. I miss playing Fantasy and would love to dust off an army. Right now there seems to be little desire up here in Portland to play 9th age.
Grom20
So what do u guys think we need to try and do to get the interest level back up (if there is anything we can do). Start getting some people to run escalation leagues, small tournaments...that lead to bigger ones, talk with store owners to help set these up? Is that possible as they are now supporting a game that won't make em any money? Thoughts?
Brother Glacius
Probably trying to come up with a single day event. For instance, I was glancing through an old citadel journal and it had a three game campaign. Each game had its own set of point values and objectives with the previous outcome affecting the next. Why not try something like that. Start at 1500, then 2000, then 2500 for the final. Try to get somewhere between 12-16 players, broken up into two teams of good vs evil (or neutral). No cost, no prizes, just games for fun with some bragging rights for the victors. Just give people an excuse to come out and play and have a nice social event at the same time. Because really, that is why we play these dumb games anyways.

smashthedean
AoS players should start playing 9th Age :P I know I'm planning to put together a 9th Age event up here in Bellingham sometime this year, but would love to see an event in Seattle or Vancouver BC as well. Considering that 8th Edition was really in a pretty good place before it died and 9th Age is an improved version of 8th, I think it will catch on really well once people start playing it.
Guest
AoS players should start playing 9th Age :P I have been wondering how long until this sub-forum is moved to the Hereticus section, as this is no longer a GW game, nor Warhammer Fantasy Battles.... Prophecy
It's something better. It is a game controlled by the people for the people like almost every decent game GW has put out. Eventually GW gives up and the people save it to grow to even a stronger state than what it was. If you want to play actual fantasy battles rather than skirmishes with whatever you want you know where to find some decent rules.
Don't Panic
short answer: no one is playing whfb, we've all pretty much moved on one way or another it seems. Those that havent moved to AoS from whfb are very unlikely to ever do it for obvious reasons.. so you can beat that dead horse as much as you want paxmiles! its either KoW or 9th for that group. Personally, 9th just isnt going to work for me. I was all for it at first but really its just some gripey fans fixing 'what they think is wrong' with each army/rules. That saying i dont think all the changes are bad or anything like that I just want a total refresh button and that's KoW. Even moreso to put the spear up GWs arse as they are a rival company and have their own line of products that we can mesh in. and it has pretty much aspects i desire overall that annoyed me about whfb. obviously going to be my opinion there and i really dont care to debate this anymore :P Talapas, Iraf and Diomedes occasionally play though in the salem area so just ask them if anyone's playing... I kinda doubt it but who knows! My beastmen are on the shelf and dwarfs are packed in boxes. So until things go beyond people 'talking about playing' they will remain collecting dust......
smashthedean
I was all for it at first but really its just some gripey fans fixing 'what they think is wrong' with each army/rules. This was my first reaction as well, but it's really not so much "gripey fans" as "top tournament players and organizers from ETC and Swedish Comp" - basically these guys know what they're doing. They really are striving to achieve balance across the board between the army books in a way that I've never seen from GW. The game is still in beta with a lot of work being done on it, but I'd really recommend taking another look and playing a few games, if not immediately, at least in April when the 1.0 version of the rules comes out. What it boils down to for me is that Kings of War is a fun game, but it just isn't a suitable replacement for Warhammer and 9th Age is.
Grom20
Start playing AoS..... I think if we combined players, we'd have decent numbers again. Not a big fan of AoS... I have given it a few goes and it just isn't what Warhammer was. It is a skirmish based game that just doesn't have the same feel behind it with mass unites marching across the field. Generals shouting out orders watching my goblins run because a fanatic just went right back through it or failing my stupidity with trolls on that crucial game winning turn six failed charged! The hardest thing so far for me is losing the fluff from warhammer...it was so deep and had such amazing feel to it (GW did a great job here). I enjoyed building an army around that more than anything else. I do think 9th age is trying to continue that and hope they keep at it. It's something better. It is a game controlled by the people for the people like almost every decent game GW has put out. Eventually GW gives up and the people save it to grow to even a stronger state than what it was. If you want to play actual fantasy battles rather than skirmishes with whatever you want you know where to find some decent rules. I agree...if you get a chance to go on the forum and check out what they are doing here...it reminds me of GW when they used to have their forums up in 6th-7th additions of warhammer. There seems to feel as though a strong community that is giving input. It isn't something that a few gamers are sitting around having a beer and saying why this sucks for my army so we need to change it. I do really believe they are play testing the crude out of it in hopes to make each army have its own unique feel while making all of your old models viable in this 9th Age. Orcs & Goblins got some great perks and they toned down some things also. Beast Herds and Dwarven Holds I think got some significant changes to get them up to par with other armies out there. One of the biggest adjustments for me so far has just to get used to the names. I have been so used to calling my Night Goblins, Night Goblins, Fanatics Fanatics having to switch to Cave Goblins, and Mad Gits is a hard transition but once you get used to it and you realize they still are my crazy O&G then no biggy. I know it isn't going to be for everyone but I do think we can keep fantasy battles alive (if you did have love for Warhammer). Long term...that I believe will be up to us if we get out and roll dice or just store the minis.
Krieger
Both AoS and 9th age are a bust for The Blacksheep. A handful of us are playing Infinty now, 2 guys are playing KoW and the the rest of us aren't even playing miniature games. I expect to continue to see a decline in Fantasy in general. While games like Infinty and Malifaux continue to grow in popularity. It's sad but it is what it is at this point.
Andrewgeddon
When I saw that Waaaghpaca was still doing multiple 8th Ed tournaments, I was hopefully that we would see something like that at OFCC. Sadly, the more I look at 9th Age, the more I feel like it's not for me. Pretty much just doing 40k now, which is ok, but doesn't scratch the same itch as WHFB.

Andrewgeddon
Out of curiosity, what parts of 9th are too different from 8th to scratch the same itch? I was referring to 40k not scratching the WHFB itch. I haven't played 9th Age, so I couldn't really say how they differ. I do want to try out 9th Age, but every time I try and go through the rulebook, I find myself just wishing I was playing 8th instead. I have nothing but respect for the people who have taken the time and effort to keep Fantasy going in one form or another, but I can't help but feel that some of the changes made suffer from "if it isn't broken, don't fix it." valourunbound
How is that any different from when GWreleased 8th? 7th wasn't broken (I don't acknowledge daemons' existence). I mean, GW releases new editions for money. At least these guys are doing it to have a better game.

valourunbound
I pretty much have a solid group of two people playing T9A in Portland. But (speaking for my half of the group) we would love to get other people going. If you want to play at WoW, Sundays work best for me (Raindog permitting). Other places... we can figure it out.

Would definitely be interested in taking you up on that offer. It's pretty hard for me to get down to Portland for gaming, Tuesday is pretty much my dedicated "gaming day," which I usually do up here in Vancouver. Maybe I can figure something out one of these Sundays though :)
valourunbound
Dice Age? I might be able to swing by this coming Tuesday.
Andrewgeddon
Dice Age? I might be able to swing by this coming Tuesday. We actually play in Salmon Creek, over at Mythic Realm. I've got a game of Imperial Assault lined up for this upcoming Tuesday, maybe some other time though?
