something sean said to me the other day has been gnawing at me... and it was not expanding on the army that you have?  My ultramarines are all infantry, 60+ marines a land raider, some DV termies and some characters.  Seeing the new stormtalon ship and the new book i was wondering if we could talk space marines for a bit.. im not as in touch as i should be with them.  Any thoughts with where to take an army of all infantry?  I love calgar, and would like to put him in a list if all possible.. any thoughts?

I wish I could help, But I am new in all of this as well (only a year) and have only played black templars. Most of my advice has come from sean, alex, and jeff. Along with just looking in the codex, picking a unit I have not tried before and playing a few games and seeing how it ticks. The nice thing about that is they have let me borrow the model or proxy something the same size till i decided on it......

I am playing Space Marines/Imperial Fists and can't wait to fly my Stormtalon. I think the combined armor rating of the Talons are 33, one above the permissible 32 for the first few weeks.. If the armor rating goes up with the army points in the coming weeks, my Talons will fill the skies!!

That and no fliers at combat patrol!

But back to the topic at hand. Doing all foot marines is a problem in the current meta. Marines just aren't that tough, and they die in droves to certain types of armies. If you're going unmounted, you NEED some sort of alternative deployment, such as scout, or infiltrate, or deep strike. Calgar is a beast and is actually amazing for his points. Honestly Ultras play really well in an all Drop Pod army style, or with mechanized infantry. If you're going on foot i'd have to suggest either raven guard (all jump), Mantis Warriors (Forge world, scout and Tacs with them get move through cover, and models get furious charge and cause impact hits if they charge out of area or into it. known as guerilla fighters), or Raptors (Forge world, scout plus infiltrate via Issadon).  Sadly not what you wanted to hear, but Ultras are the kings of "cover all your bases" mech infantry.
