PumpkinHead
My son, who is 5, loves games. He is willing to try any game we throw at him. Right now he plays life jr, monopoly jr, checkers, battle sheep, uno, and other such games. I am currently teaching him battle ship and the card game 31 (a little tricky as his math ability is still growing). He picks up games pretty good, but he isn't at the point of planning out moves in advance, though sometimes I think I see it when playing checkers with him... What other games do y'all play with your kids?
pretre
Kids of Catan and Catan: Junior are both good.
PumpkinHead
Haven't seen those before. I will definitely check them out.
PourSpelur
Zombie dice was a big hit in my house. Sneakily teaching some math and probability lessons into a game was a double win.

Mach_5
Just received One Deck Dungeon from backing the kickstarter, my kids have really enjoyed it so far, though I have to walk them through it. They roll the dice and I help them figure out what to do. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/179275/one-deck-dungeon

pretre
Crud. I thought you said 4. Some of those might be a bit low.
PumpkinHead
We have those games Pretre, except labyrinth. We like hoot owl hoot because he learns teamwork, but you can see the competitive part of him coming out in games. Like in trouble and sorry. He likes to count out all his possibilities to see if he can get someone and then laugh.

pretre
I was having my boys list games and going through our game cabinets. :)
PumpkinHead
I appreciate it. Gives more diversity to the game closet.
PumpkinHead
Mach_5, I am not sure he is quite ready for the dungeon crawl. Maybe when he is 6, or shows more interest in that sort of thing.
Last_Bullet
Castle Panic: Play it as a co-op not competitive
InfestedKerrigan
Boss Dungeon could be easily tuned for 5. Tsuro may be a good one, that can grow too, fun flying dragons early on, and learn/realize planning as ages. Zombie dice, I agree with what was said before. 40k could be trimmed and played on a checker board. Or a Heroclix play mat. Legos may be safer for your models. PumpkinHead
I will check out zombie dice. He watches me play 40k, and gets to roll dice. He wants in on the action but I am thinking maybe start him on space hulk or something similar to help him learn game mechanics and move plastic models around.
InfestedKerrigan
When I first picked up Space Hulk, I put it in front of my son and asked him to show me how to play. Without reading the rules, only showing him the maps, he pretty well had it figured out. I'd encourage not using the timer if he's playing Termies.

That's my fish Magic Labyrinth Boo who ticket to ride first journeys Slamwich Tsuro ( I almost forgot this one but it is played regularly)
jdw1710
Thumbs up for Castle Panic. I play it a lot with my 6 year old. Two other games that are entertaining for both kids and adults are Out Foxed and Race to the Treasure IMHO.
InfestedKerrigan
Munchkin Gloom is a lot more light hearted than Gloom, while still having the same structure. Complicated cards can be removed. Gloom is fun, too, but may be too dark for some. Batman or Monty Python Flux are fun easy games too. Flux can seem over complicated, though.
