  1. My thrower has AG score of six. I want to throw a long bomb. The modifier is minus two. I roll a three. Did I fumble? Since a fumble is a score of one before or after modification? Three minus two. Thanks!
  2. Venue looks great. Sadly I'm back to working weekends.
  3. The End Of The Tour A Rolling Stone reporter interviews author David Foster Wallace over the course of several days. It's a buddy picture, character study, reflection on mental illness and a dialogue about writing fiction. Overall I think it succeeds even with it's flaws. That's sort of the point. The subject suffers from depression and the movie, to me channels some of the reasons. I'm actually inclined not to make lists of pros and cons because I think the premise is really worthy and larger than any list of minor compliments and criticisms. One thing I will say, it's probably better for people who are not familiar with the real people portrayed in the script. Fans of Wallace will likely have too critical an eye and probably be irritated by how the performance relies heavily on costume and affectation. Or maybe not... if they are really into meta analysis they might actually love that. Either way, it's an earnest and authentic movie in my opinion. I think anyone who struggles with the creative process or being social will find something that resonates here.

  5. Oops. Can't make it after all. Next week!
  6. Of course all grenades and guns and cell phones would be removed. I figure I can always use skeleton hands. Is there a necron elite that would be a good size for a mummy?
  7. I'm curious if someone here is a strong knowledge of Necron bitz and could tell me if it's a reasonable idea to try and create a tomb king team from them. Especially, are there a fair number of empty hands or bits that could serve as empty hands? I'd like to avoid the 'hand holding a red bull' look if possible. Thanks!
  8. Played three games at the last game night. I think its already a staple. Good for when you are waiting for an opponent to arrive. The premise is pretty simple. You draw some number of colored tiles from platters in a community pool. All tiles drawn on a turn must be the same color and from the same platter or from the extra pile in the center. Tiles fill rows on your play card which, in turn fill squares on a grid for scoring. Tiles that overflow the row are scored in the negative. Scoring tiles cannot be adjacent to the same color. From what I can tell the strategy has less to do with maximizing personal score, though you do want to do this and more to do with sabotaging your opponents. Since drawing tiles is mandatory and you must always draw the maximum number of tiles from the color of your choice a smart opponent will take the opportunity to force negative points. There is a sweet spot about halfway through the game where opportunities to do this present them self. It seems possible to employ card counting techniques with the tiles but I didn't play enough games to get that far. It's definitely important to watch your opponents and try to predict what kinds of bonuses they are trying to achieve. You can often force the issue by leaving moves open that are a net gain in points but are marginalized by penalties such that the best move available is a low scoring move. You can also force moves that are negative points but this seems more like a case of luck. It's often possible on the very last round. I especially like the visual aesthetic. It's among the most elegant games I've played recently. I could totally see making a custom version out of clay at some point.
  9. I can come for early drinkins but I don't have a clubhouse key.
  10. I'd love to dip in on some Gloomhaven if that's going down.
  11. I made this guys with the HeroForge app. If I decide to order them it's ten bucks apiece for a digital download. Every other option is much more expensive. I'm curious if it would be worth creating models this way for the club. I'm hoping to have an above average 3d printing rig very soon.
  12. Seems to be essentially the same as Mordheim.
  13. Has Games Workshop ever created a balanced system? I can't really evaluate it that way to be honest. The game feels extremely arbitrary to me but I don't mind. The fluff is terrific. It's immersive. Developing and modeling gang through the course of a campaign is great fun. I love the compact scale. I love the labyrinth terrain. I must say that I do prefer the original models, for the most part over the current releases.
  14. Gauntlet is one of the wider profile machines and I can tell you that they are not easy to disassemble. Definitely bring a tape measure before taking one home!
  15. Michters bourbon. I usually take it neat but sometimes rocks... If it's well I might get a twist. Never found a mixed drink that was as good as a straight double.
  16. This list is from a couple months ago. Prices are lower now. I will update that as soon as I get back to the shop. Note that these are the original machines with the original boards and cartridges and not any sort of ROM or raspberry pi. 17. Our store is having a fire sale on video arcade cabinets to make space for table top gaming. $200-$900. Priced at roughly half of going market value. (closed auction aggregate/collector estimate) Machines can be inspected and played ahead of purchase. Most have after market parts and upgrades for performance and efficiency. Most have have caster wheels for easy moving. Bargaining welcome for serious buyers who want multiples. Beaverton OR. No delivery. I will list the full set if there is any interest.
  18. In the interest of keeping this thread going I recently got the double oaked woodford and a bottle of michters. Both are solid but don't break any records. I usually have a bottle of the bernheim.
  19. Oh, I should add: Our game was three players. Only one made it to the final room and managed to defeat the final enemy on the very last available turn.
