Anybody ever watched "Last Chance U"?

It's great!

Forget Hard Knocks. Forget All Or Nothing.

If you're interested in American football, I highly recommend this show.

If you're not into American football, I highly recommend this show. Watch people raised in rough conditions who've [big bad swear word]ed up their chances to make a life for themselves, get one last chance.

The narrative angle is immediately more engaging than multimillionaires stressing about stressors that stress multimillionaires. They have no money and no prospects. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

The Defenders. I liked it. The pacing was fine, the action choreography was pretty good and the chemistry worked. Can't help but wonder about what happened to Misty. 8/10

IIRC, when something similar happened in the comics, she ended up with a badass cybernetic arm. I'm hoping for that route, or something similar.

I figured something like that when it was mentioned that Rand Corp owns the hospital and that Misty would be taken care of. Or maybe Melvin can put an awesome buzzsaw on it. Either one would be fine, really.

The Tick (2017)

Pilot episiode's been on Amazon Prime for a bit now, but they recently released another 5 episodes. I buy series on amazon prime, but I don't have a membership. This one, they released only for those with membership. Mistake, if you ask me. With a simple google search, I found free streams of the episodes within 12 hours of them being released on amazon prime. I'll still be buying the series, when they let me.

Anyway, If you watched the Tick before or read the comic books, this one is great. They keep the humor, while having a plot with continuity between episodes. 5/5 if you like the tick. Probably closer to 3/5 if you haven't been exposed already. If you didn't like it before, you won't like this either.

I really hope this one continues.

Oriemo Season 1 and 2

Anime, and a strange one at that. Season 1 was surprisingly well done (3/5), while season 2 (2/5) was more a rehash of season 1. 12 episodes per season. Seen on Crunchyroll (like netflix for just anime).

Story is a romance between the Highschooler older brother and his middleschooler younger sister. Yeah, it's anime.... First season's plot tactles the romance in a round about way that makes for a compelling story in it's own right. Second season attempts to further their relationships in a more direct way while rehashing the unresolved elements of season 1.

And if wondering, I was bored and recovering from a leg injury. This isn't really my sort of TV show, but I enjoyed season 1 despite that.

Supermansion, Season 1.

4/5.

Just another one of those comedies which makes fun of a genre of TV with an overall theme of Fail, not unlike Venture Brothers or Archer. In this case, show is making fun of super hero teams (like Avengers or Justice League). Target audience is probably around 15, but I really enjoyed this one - might just be the mood I was in, but I really liked it.

I guess there's a second season out there, and they have approval for the third that hasn't been made yet.

Boruto, (Natuto sequel series). 3/5.

Only 32 episodes into this one (they only have 32 episodes, but with a 52 episode season, a bit early to post, I suppose). Anime, and a weird sequel series.

For starters, I think the target audience is much younger than the orginal series' target audience, which presents itself as a decline in violent encounters, perversion, and blood. They also use a lot more bright colors than the original, which I've heard helps small children enjoy shows they don't understand.

In the prequel, without getting into spoilers, they basically resolved all conflicts at the end of the previous series, with everyone getting along in the end. So the sequel has basically no obstacles for the protagonists to overcome. The main character has a good family which has both high status and enough wealth to not worry about finances. The protagonist has above average intelligence, is well liked, makes friends easily, and has no physical disability or hardship.

So on the one hand, I like very much that they've continued the story, but on the other hand, this series wouldn't be watchable if I hadn't already enjoyed the prequel so much. So 3/5 as a sequel, but really 1/5 if you haven't seen the prequel.

I do, highly recommend the prequel (Naruto) which is a 5/5 overall. A great series, and it has a perfect ending, which is highly unusual for any long running series.

EDIT: Oh, for plot. Current series focuses on the daily life of the protagonist (Boruto) which is often spent at School for ninjas in training. Kinda like a show about kids going to elementry school, but with a slight combat theme and their setting features ninja techniques that defy modern science (Magic, but it isn't called magic. I suppose it's closer to an Anecdotal based science, so its more personal experience than something they could mass produce, but there is supposed to be a science to it).

Dark Matter: Season Three.  8/10. It is a shame this show was canceled. It finally hit its stride putting out smart sci-fi.

iZombie: Season Three. 8/10.  I did not see the overall plot hitting where the show landed on the final episode for the season. Another enjoyable show. It is far from perfect, but good painting fare.

Punisher (2017 TV Series) 5/5.

They did a very good job with this one. They kept the anti-hero role, while adding only a small dash of goodness to Frank Castle (which is all he should have). They also add a small and brief dash of romance, but again, Frank Castle isn't the playboy that so many other heroes are, and they kept that as it should be. They touch upon gun control, but didn't form opinions and get preachy. Protagonists and antagonists fit well together, and they left room for returning villians. Action scenes are very well done (unlike some of the other Marvel TV series). And, let's face it, Hollywood is so much better at making Gun focused films than they are at making martial arts or super power films.

As an aside, I always picture Chappy when I think about the Punisher. A very unhappy Chappy. And I think they lived up to my expectations.

That is a helluva compliment.

Definitely not meant as an insult. Wouldn't have said it if I thought you'd react badly.

But, yeah, Unhappy Chappy = Punisher. Mind you, Frank Castle is not just a fleeting unhappy, his life is ruined entirely and he's stuck being unhappy for the rest of his life. So I picture Chappy being that unhappy and the punisher comes to mind. You, Chappy, are almost always happy and upbeat when I encounter you, save for fleeting moments of annoyance. So Unhappy Chappy remains ficticious - I hope it never comes to pass.

I thought it was an effective portrait of the character that didn't pull punches... the use of cheek pouches felt like a silly homage to old cop shows... get shot in the shoulder and blood comes out of your mouth for some reason.

I was slightly bothered by some of the PTSD scenes. I'm not sure what the appropriate degree of realism/seriousness is for a comic book adaptation. It was effective in terms of advancing the story but it felt rather exploitative. Something felt wrong about depicting flashbacks and suicidal depression in a film that revolved around revenge and bordered on gore porn. Maybe I'm over thinking it.

Still, I feel like the mini series format is far-and-away superior to the summer blockbuster movie in terms of exploring these characters. It was put together pretty well.
