Well, there's only so many places you can put fake blood on your actors without having to spend much on special effects...Shot in the shoulder and blood in the mouth are about the easiest options for fake injuries. All they did was shave a few pounds off the office manager and put them on Dwight. I mean, Bilbo Baggins character is named Tim, and I'm sure you are surprised to learn that the beloved Jim is based on that characer. It's disappointing, really. Gervais is next level funny in most everything he does. I laugh when I see the scene and I laugh the next day when I get the sub text. I'm not sure what the appropriate degree of realism/seriousness is for a comic book adaptation. It was effective in terms of advancing the story but it felt rather exploitative. Something felt wrong about depicting flashbacks and suicidal depression in a film that revolved around revenge and bordered on gore porn. Maybe I'm over thinking it. I can't quite put my finger on it either, but I think I can sort of see what you were talking about here, now that I've finished it. There were some bits that felt sort of forced in, and it felt both too long and too short at times, as if it would have been better perhaps split into a couple of different series, each focusing on different elements. That said, I did think it was good, overall. It's definitely yet another triumph for Marvel's casting, with Bernthal just knocking it out of the park.
andozane
Stranger Things Season 2 Pretty much perfect...9/10 So much good about this...but my favorite is the irony of Paul Reiser's casting. So perfectly done, down to the scenes that were practically perfectly copying Aliens. So much actually now that I have finished Season 2, I feel Season 1 was Alien, and Season 2 was Aliens. Perfect show...can't wait til Season 3! Punisher Also, 9/10 Netflix has another slam dunk...they did a great job not just making a shoot em up Punisher, but a story with some grit and great writing. Best Marvel series on Netflix to date.

Casting has been excellent in all of these shows (except IF where they seem to have missed every mark).

Raindog
Stranger Things II. 10/10 - About perfect- As my Wife says, "Empire Strikes Back to Season One's New Hope." Punisher. Raindog
Godless. 8/10. One of the Best Gunfights Ever in the last episode. Warning: It is gritty and has sexual violence.

Compared to that season of Daredevil with the Punisher in it, they really toned down the violent nature of the Punisher for that series. I think they realised that the level of violence Punisher presents as an antagonist wasn't a level where you could make an enjoyable show out of, if he were the protagonist. Though, honestly, I thought raindog was being sarcastic.

InfestedKerrigan
BoJack season 1 3 / 5 I didn't like this show first few episodes. Friend had me try a s2 ep, and I enjoyed that one pretty well, so went back and picked it back up. A lot of the crap that was annoying me got tuned back, thankfully. Pretty decent show, otherwise. Not must see, but hasn't been horrile before bed.
InfestedKerrigan
Star trek discovery 2 / 6 arms 4/5 nose ridges I enjoy lsd, dmt, and psilocybin, however I found all that [big bad swear word] distracting and detracting. Also, the creature is cheap grab at current love of the critter.
scotthartman
I binged on Futureman which started off weird and ended up hilarious. Have to love that people in the future call their mouths 'ratholes'.
andozane
Dark (Netflix Series) 8/10 Engaging story that kept me wanting to watch another episode. It is not fast paced at all, but the story is very interesting. Would definitely watch it again. Also, must watch with subtitles (unless you are fluent in German), I tried a bit with the english dubbing, and it was really awful.
Guest
Overlord Season 1: If you haven't seen it, this anime is excellent, and they have a second season that just released it's second episode right now. Plot is loosely based on the video game of the same name, though the video game is crap and this is great. Basically, the main protagonist is an evil overlord villian from an RPG setting, and the plot is about his very capable attempts to take over the world. First season was great in parts, but also had lots mediocre moments. Second season is turning out great and is show I look forward to each week. An awesome show for anyone that enjoys a well done fantasy RPG. Presently on Hulu EDIT: Wow. Yeah, Watch the Subbed version. The Dubbed version is pretty terrible. Dunno why they couldn't just get actors to read the subs, but they changed quite a bit in the dubbing, I suspect to make it sound more "american" but it's terrible by comparison. Maybe dubs are just aimed at a younger target audience, since they don't need to be able to read...

WestRider
Runaways, S1. Good stuff for the most part. I actually liked most of the changes from the comics, except that Molly doesn't have nearly enough different animal hats on the show, and doesn't wear the ones she does have enough. Realistically, tho, the biggest issue is that the creators were clearly banking on getting a second season. Fortunately, they got it, but there really isn't any resolution at the end of S1. Not quite a cliffhanger, but close. Ironically, this is the first thing I've seen James Marsters in where he's using his actual accent instead of using an English accent*, but the actor playing his son is actually English, and his American accent is faked. *I actually didn't even realize it was him until I was reading about the cast somewhere online. 15 years and the different accent make quite a difference. InfestedKerrigan
Star Trek Discovery or How I came to Stop Fearing and Love CBS Access First half 3/6 Arms Started out strong, then I was worried it jumped the shark, then I was really worried they were going to have a shark jump a shark... Second Half 2.5/3 Alien Genitalia ...but it came back very well. The season finale didn't go the way I thought it was going to, but it ended well enough, same with the epilogue. Now to go suspend my account until Season 2 comes out, as this was literally the only show I watch on it. I only paid for the account, because I forgot to cancel after the free demo when I didn't want to wait to watch it on Plex at a friends house.

shmitty
Broadchurch - Season 1 In some ways it’s a generic murder mystery. But where it really shines is in exploring the impact of the murder and investigation on a small town. Really well written and acted.

Seems like it lately...I just finished season 1 as well. Also very much enjoyed it...and I felt the acting and setting were excellent....I want to live in Broadchurch now (minus the murder).
