Ledberry
So, I am still very new to the game and am trying to lock down a list to play. The list I tried yesterday was actually ineligible (too many core fireteams). A few things I am unsure of: for a new player, more troops and orders (but more to manage) or less, more expensive troops (less to manage but each troop loss hits harder)? I would like to build around a core fireteam of either hospitaller knights with Joan and De Fersen, hospitaller knights with Magister knights, or Order segeant fireteam (defensive) with lots of specialists filling in the gaps. For those with experience either playing with or against MO, what would be the best core fireteam to build around for a new player?
Raindog
@rudra34 , can you help with this?
Exile
@rudra34 will be the go-to for MO lists, he played them for quite a long time. That being said, in general, when I'm building a list (regardless of faction) it is going to fall into one of two archetypes: 10 order, or 15+ order. If you want Joan + De Fersen, it's going to be the former, thanks to the ~220-230 point cost of that core link. Hospitaller + Magister can get away with reaching a bit to 13-14, thanks to the impetuous discount the Magisters get. From a rule standpoint, it may be best to start with an Order Sergeant link, and work your way up from there, that way you are dealing with only the Fireteam rules first, without necessarily mixing those with Martial Arts, Hacking ARO's, and other messy things. Minimize the new rules you're working with, until you master those, and then sprinkle a few new rules on top, rinse and repeat.
George
One of my favorite MO fireteams is DeFersen, Hosp Knight Doc, Magister with missile launcher and two Magisters with AP CCW. You have two built in specialists, 10 wounds, 5 burst spitfire with the missile launcher for long range fights. Filling out the rest of the list with Order Sgt's, Engineer and probably a Peacemaker dronebot with spitfire and ODD so you can use a hacker to give it Marksmanship lvl 2 to ignore cover and have shock ammo. In suppression fire, it's -12 to be hit before range mods in cover.

Ledberry
Thanks for all the great feedback so far. I'm leaning towards the order sergeant link, and because I can have 2 lists, use a Joan "pain train" link for the other. I have been working on this list and I'm not sure how but I was able to cram 17 orders in. There's not 1 powerful unit, but I think having a bunch of pretty good units will give me so room for error. 17 Orders ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 110 ORDER SERGEANT MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. Ledberry
Here's what I am thinking for my second list. It's following the Joan, De Fersen, Hospitaller knight model. Not a lot of specialists but it would be more for a game focused on holding objectives and killing models. I thought about going the magister route, but I wanted to try something that was on the opposite extreme of the other list. I've got the Joan link, the FO OS and Spec Ops for getting up close and grabbing objectives, and the HRL OS and Sierra for long range support. Warcor is a free order. I tried to get to 300 points even but I feel like this is a pretty efficient use of points. Joan & Knights ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 9 1 JOAN OF ARC Lieutenant MULTI Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, AP CCW. (+1 | 49)DE FERSEN Spitfire / Pistol, Templar CCW (AP + Shock). (2 | 58)KNIGHT HOSPITALLER HMG / Pistol, AP CCW. (2 | 41)KNIGHT HOSPITALLER Doctor (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 37)KNIGHT HOSPITALLER Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 33)SPEC. SERGEANT (CH: TO Camouflage, Infiltration, Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27)ORDER SERGEANT Heavy Rocket Launcher / Assault Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 15)SIERRA DRONBOT HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 25)INDIGO Spec-Ops (12 XP) (WIP:13, Doctor, Infiltration) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. Ledberry
Any tweaks or glaring weaknesses in either list?
Exile
You are lacking an engineer in the second list. Not only are they necessary to remove nasty things like Isolated or IMM-2, but you need them for classified objectives, as well. A general rule of thumb I -try- to stick to for ITS scenarios is to make sure that you can complete each classified objective. This requires: Doctor/Paramedic, Engineer, Hacker, D-charges, Forward Observer/Spotlight hacking program
Ledberry
Good call on the engineer. I swapped out "minelayer" for "engineer" on my spec ops. D charges seems to be tough for MO. Only 3 profiles have them (FK, Machinist, Konstantinos). I might have to go without and hope to not need them.
Sgt. Rock
FK assault hackers are AMAZING. Immobilizing HI and TAGs from around the corner and planting D charges on them with Assault is hi-larious. And Konny's no slouch in a fireteam, either. Remember, he can join up with Order Sergeants.
