I agree on the 8.8cm Heavy AA can do the job but you have a mobility problem. Ambush might help with this. The 7.5 Pak40s are ok but I think will still struggle against KV-1.

I don't count the Stuka bombs as effective due to the fact that the KV only has a 16.6% chance of failing its armor save. 33.3% chance of meeting AT4. Throw on your 4+ firepower and even when they fail the save you only have a 50/50 chance of killing. Thats pretty bleak.

KV-1 can be taken as a support choice to any formation or they have a mixed tankovy that can take KV-1 as one of the obligitory platoons. The good thing about this for the Germans is that it dosent have a headquaters unit so I think you might be able to ignore the KV-1 platoons, destroy the other parts of the formation and go for a formation break. I think this is why battlefront removed the HQ from the mixed tankovy formation. otherwise they would be able to have 2 units of KV-1 (HQ and 1 platoon) and it would be very hard to get them not in good spirits.

My personal view is that the points for a tiger in the face of KV-1 and Churchills has become much more palatable.

I have found that there are 4 common approaches in gaming to dealing with scary, powerful things.

  1. Ignore them and get on with what you are going to do, but expect a higher cost in doing it.
  2. Deal with them head-on with the intention of crippling or killing them.
  3. Have one or two tools that can cripple or kill them, but use these tools to shape their behavior.  Then leverage that situation to complete your plan.
  4. Ignore them and clobber their weaker allies to achieve your goals.

I think #3 or #4 or both would allow you to stay closer to your playing style and the army list you desire to play. You might change it somewhat for the bigger monsters, but I would not totally redesign it.

Just got my books. I am very interested in most of the games. I however am not interested in the full city fights German VS full Russians. They went back to a first edition style of city fighting. For the Germans the only thing they can do is pin the attacker in defensive fire or they lose.  28 teams VS 9 is a loser every time. I am very disappointed. I have not played it yet but it very similar edition city fights. Two major differences, no breaking when below 1/2 and the soviet's are now hit on 3's vs old way of 2's  Both make the soviet force far far stronger. I have found no gain for the Germans, who had massive troubles before that turned almost everyone away for city fighting after only one game, and lost all the specialist pioneers and bunkerbuster weapons. Any thoughts?

Reading through the City battle rules, I would say that experimentation might prove you correct, or not.

I have the riflemen for both sides, but prob not worth putting on table until we have specialist teams for both sides: Pioneers, flamethrowers, SMGs, etc.

Also, command cards might reveal some possibilities.

I thought the 15cm infantry gun was a bunker buster. Is it not?

Checking on this, 1) in general for that gun, and 2) Brutal Gun rules(s) in city fights.

Also, I have command cards so there might be something there....

In Flames of War version 3, The 15cm sIG33 gun is rated as "Bunker Buster"
In version 4, there is no "Bunker Buster" rule. Instead, guns previously listed as "Bunker Buster" get one or two changes:
1) Firepower = "AUTO"
2) Brutal Rule: Infantry teams must re-roll successful saves.

Additionally, in city fights, the Brutal Special Rule has one more effect (as stated in "Enemy at the Gates" and "Iron Cross"):
"When a weapon that has the Brutal special rule hits a Team in a Room, in addition to its normal effects, roll a die and add the result to the number of hits scored by the weapon. All of the hits from a Brutal weapon must be assigned to Teams in the same Room."

So, when a pair of sIG33's fires at a room with 4 enemy teams, 1 enemy team will be destroyed and the enemy unit will receive 4 or 5 hits. If there are only 2 enemy teams in the room, very likely they will both be destroyed.

I posted more details on the sIG 33 here: http://www.ordofanaticus.com/topic/210963-auf-wiedersehen-bunker-buster-guten-tag-brutal-gun/
