Guest
I plan to be there later tonight to raid the bits bin, but I'm thinking I'm going to pass on this league. I'm just rather flaky with this sort of thing (leagues) and I don't want to commit. As is, looks like I'm playing malifaux, warmahordes, 40k and am in a starfinder group. I keep adding projects and this sort of things just leads to burning out. Still, see you tonight.
Ish
If you have a half-dozen troops from just about any WH40k faction, it’s probably worthwhile to at least dabble in Kill Team. I don’t see it becoming my primary war game (AoS is at the moment, but I plan to treat myself to a SAGA army for Christmakkuh). But it’s certainly a fun way to spend an evening, since you can easily get two games of KT played to completion at a relaxed pace in the time it takes to play one full WH40k game.
scottshoemaker
Kill Team Boot Camp today at the Clubhouse! I'll be there at 4:00 to help folks get started! I know it says 5:00, but I have a hard stop today at 5:45.
Sgt. Rock
After playing a learning game with Scott, this game is a blast, and I'm really looking forward to the league! I may have to invest in some new dice, though, because those shiny pretty Ordo dice I bought at OFCC OBVIOUSLY HATE ME AND I SHOULD MELT THEM DOWN.

They’re just lonely and this has damaged their morale. You should buy MORE Ordo dice.

Guest
Okay, can't find more than 4 Tyranid warriors of the type I want to bring. I have 20pts left. How many points for Hormagants? Can't seem to find an online army builder for kill team. On the PS4 right now, though I suppose, I could load up the PC and find out (Battlescribe or something that actually requires installing...). I'm guessing 4 or 5 points each for horms. As I recall, the choices are horms, terms, warriors, stealers and lictors. Doubt i can fit the lictor in with 4x warriors, and I don't presently own any stealers or terms. So it's horms or warriors. Could also just proxy a 5th warrior, I suppose, but then I'm commited to buying a 5th one to replace the proxy.

Easier on PC though.
Dark Trainer
Also can proxy, it's just a matter of fun. There must be something that looks similar, or try another kill team? Someone likely also has models to borrow, or check the bits bin?

Well, my warriors are already heavy conversion...Nah, I'll just use this as an excuse to get some Horms on proper bases. Plus, I was thinking that the list could probably benefit from a few more models. As is, the 5-man doesn't really have any expendable models. And as 4- warrior unit, means I don't have to pick a warrior to not be a specialist/leader.

Sgt. Rock
Cool, good to hear. Hoping traffic won't be too awful, gotta get home from Salmon Creek at 5 and then another 15-20 minutes to the clubhouse. But I'll be there, with some Chaos Marines this time. Dark Trainer
Anyone link some decent high res art that would make for a good battle mat for Kill Team? City with roads, or wasteland, etc.
Brother Glacius
Really interested in this, but super short on gaming time currently.

You can play anywhere (WoW just makes it easy), and get in make up games (like 2 in a night). Just want to be done before Nov 5th, and any unplayed games won't help your score is all. The main thing is we want enough people to make sure we spread around opponents. So far I think we have about 10.
Guest
@scottshoemaker Rules question. Says in matched play, higher level models can be (a) just bought and (b) have a higher point cost. For example, a level 4 specialist is +12pts. My question is twofold, first, as the above, are we allowed to just buy higher level specialists (sure looks that way), and, second, do we have to level up (and therefore increase the cost of the model) if we get the exp to do so? I'm just looking at my tyranid warriors and nothing that the Leader role doesn't really do anything for a warrior beyond 1st level. Meanwhile, giving one of these roles to, say a hormagaunt, would be fine until level 2+ where their point cost would make them unfieldable. And there are some roles which would be nice to just pay to start with a level 3-4 character.
Ish
That’s matched play, which is similar to but different from campaign play. In a campaign, you start without any advancements. In a matched play game, say for a tourney, you can start with advancements. Think of it in D&D terms: If your DM says “go ahead and make a tenth level character,” there are rules for doing that... But by default you start at first level.

So I'm looking for that level 1 starting requirement, but I can't find it regarding campaign play. Does say that the increased point costs are for "battle forged kill teams" as " veterans of your kill team campaigns." So point costs increases are definitely campaign specific. That's top right of page 67. Rules regarding experience (page 204) seem to suggest that leveling up is automatic, so can't be avoided. Answered my own question in that respect (that would be "b"). Which means that in a constant 100pt game, my kill team will get smaller with each character that levels, as my specialists will increase in point cost and therefore "displace" other models in my 100pt list. Though I suppose I could avoid leveling up but just having lots of "identically modeled" leaders/specialists in the command rooster, where any that level up get retired. Wouldn't be able to do this with higher levels, but a potential solution for level 1 leaders/specialists that don't benefit from level increases. Guest
As an aside, the main campaign kill team limitation change is that starting kill teams are limited to 12 models, and during play, this number can be increased beyond 20. So 33 Grots is a campain legal kill team (in later games).
Dark Trainer
Hmm, initially I was planning to ignore the experience level costs. However, page 67, says point values DO apply to campaigns. So yes, a 2nd level specialist could be replaced by a single level 1 and start over, or pay the 4 points if you want the 2nd level bonus. Basically it is +4pts per specialist over level 1. Level 2=+4, Level 3=+8, Level 4=+12 As Ish says below, we'll escalate the point value. Just starts at 100. Ish
Campaigns are meant to escalate in size over time, so it might be 100 Point Kill Teams to start, then 125 Point Kill Teams later on.

Yeah that's another option too. I'll make sure to plan that into the missions. Thanks! Maybe a 5 point weekly increase after week 2 or something. Especially since the whole kill team is earning xp...
