Recommended Posts

I will be sponsoring this event for both experienced and new players.

Flames of War Mega Battle at Ambuscade! 3
Saturday, February 9, 2019
at Guardian Games, upstairs un the Level Up Homescreen
More info at https://ambuscadeportland.blogspot.com/p/ambuscade.html
SESSION 1 (11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m)
TANK Collision at Prokhorovka.  In this one day battle during the Kursk campaign, on the eastern front of WWII, nearly 1,000 German and Soviet tanks smashed into each other in a massive armored battle. Will the Germans punch through to their objective towards Kursk? Can the Soviets stop them?  15mm figures.  Flames of War 4th edition rules.  Up to 6 players. Preferred player skill level: Beginner/some experience. (James B. a.k.a 'barca')

Pre-registration for games will be available soon at https://ambuscadeportland.blogspot.com/p/ambuscade.html

Forces:
If you do not have Flames of War Mid-war Eastern Front models, we can provide models and unit cards.
If you want to bring your own army, lists are 100-109 points, restricted to only tanks, armored cars, airplanes and self-propelled guns. <edited JAN 15>
No Ferdinands nor Brummbars. They were not present at Prokhorovka (southern battle of the Kursk salient).
Forces are taken from any of the following Battlefront books: Enemy At The Gates, Red Banner, Iron Cross and Ghost Panzers.

Historical Notes:

  • Axis/German Forces will be modeled on the Panzer units of II SS-Panzer Corps, specifically 1st SS-Panzergrenadier Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler and 2nd SS-Panzergrenadier Division Das Reich.
  • As a concession to the Panther tank lovers, Panzer Grenadier Division Grossdeutschland might contribute some Pz V tanks to the battle.
  • Allied/Soviet/"Russian" Forces will be modeled on the 5th Guards Tank Army

Points per faction: between 200 and 400+, depending on number of players and player experience.

Many thanks to Spencer for putting on this annual event.

Barca, I am in for this if I have a vet to help teach me, and if there are still models to use.

What would be the most relevant rules to read, or what are your best recommendations for a youtube tutorial series to learn the basics?

1. Yes, we can loan u an army.

2. The most relevant videos for our Kursk battle (from the list below) are: 1, 2, 3, 6, and 8

Note that this event is open to all interested gamers:

  • people who have never played Flames of War - - - if you've played WH 40k, the basic rules of Flames of War are similar to 40k
  • peeps who have used v3 Flames of War rules, but are curious about version 4 or "4th edition"
  • veterans of v4 who want to push plastic, roll dice and make their opponents sweat

Never "too old" to play with tanks

If you are rusty, or never tried Flames of War v4, here is your chance.

This event is meant to be a big demo and fun game, not terribly competetive.

The GM/gods of war/Higher command may have to feed in waves of tanks to keep the game going

I work Saturdays, but any objections to my possibly popping in as a “neutral observer” for an hour or so?

Observers are always welcome.

Beware the temptation vortex...

CANCELLED, due to weather and driving conditions.

Sorry, but the weather is not cooperating for this event.

Due to the weather forecast for my area for Friday evening and Saturday morning: snow, ice and freezing rain, I will not be going to Guardian Games on Saturday, FEB 9.

This is the event I was going to run:
Ambuscade! 3
SESSION 1 (11:00 a.m.)
TABLE 😄
Tank Collision at Prokhorovka (James B.)

My plan is to run this same multi-player Flames-of-War event at GameStorm,on Sunday, MAR 31, 2019.
