Week - 0 It felt like an eternity, but the ever changing throne room of the Demon Prince Trakzal Fatecaller made time lose meaning. After elevation there was a time of plenty. Worlds to conquer, the simple minded to twist, it was easy to guide the future on a most glorious path. But all things change. Marine brothers fell away from death, spawndom, treachery. For an age, Trakzal could only see the crystals of the forests, the glinting colors of the clouds, the faces shifting in the walls, the future closed off. Until now. In one moment there was a new chair facing the throne. In the next, sat a Herald of the Master. Silent. For a time there was stillness, bu then the future fragmented into untold numbers of possibilities. So much will happen. It is the now. The Herald spoke of the shifts in the warp. New gateways between the Masters domain and the Corporal had formed. A great rift opened millions of new worlds to be enjoyed and... altered. A physic awakening sent spikes of power through the warp. Long had the warp been forgotten in the codex of power. In the greatest shifting since the formation of the Eye, every race was being given over powered new skills. Free upgrades. New units. The creatures of the very warp that spawned this great change for some reason had been left behind. Tzeentch has spoken. This will change. Everything must change. The game of war has never been fair. But come on! What is a physic awakening without the powers of the WARP! Iridescent shapes formed from the will of the Master and the Herald spoke of a reconnaissance to a new world. A force was being given and pathways forged. The Tzeentch children, and even Trakzal himself, were just pawns at this point. If any were disrupted, they would just be reclaimed by Tzeentch to be generated again. Trakzal would not be a pawn for long. 500pts Demons of Tzeentch - Battalion Deamon Prince of Tzeentch w/ Wings, Talons, Herald of Tzeentch - Changecaster 24 Pink Horrors 10 Pink - Blue - Brimstone horrors 10 Pink - Blue - Brimstone horrors

For this battle the White Scars allied with the Crimson Fists against the hated Tau xenos empire, but it should be noted agents of the archenemy were present, as well. The Alpha Legion were no doubt trying to manipulate the xenos to further their own nefarious purposes. An outrider detachment of White Scars was fielded to asses the enemy’s capabilities, and to try to harry them and make quick kills where possible. Things started to go wrong immediately when a Tau warsuit with far too many guns took out the company Vindicator before the Scars had a chance to fire. Undaunted, the Khan and a surviving squad sergeant took the fight to where they could do the most good, charging the Heretic’s transport. They would destroy it and cause the death of at least one traitor in the process. Meanwhile, a squad of scouts on bikes charged the second Tau Commander, though they were unable to fell him as a swarm of drones arrived to take the blows for their cowardly leader. The Khan and biker sergeant gave each other one last killing smile and charged recklessly into the nearest enemies. In the end a lone suppressor sergeant found cover to buy him time to send back the intelligence this report is based on. His signal was lost not long afterward. It is not known what became of the Crimson Fists. At last sight, they were charging the enemy in what looked like a last-ditch effort.

Week one 500 points of Alpha Legion: Batallion - Chaos lord & chaos sorcerer, 2x 10 man units of cultists, 5 Chaos Marines, 1 rhino & 1 Venom crawler Initial Recon Report: - -Teamed up with the Tau to root out some Astartes ...The fools actually thought we would convert to the greater good. I will say the battle would not have gone as well without them. We were not expecting Khan to head the charge and he is as viscous as reported. The Crimson Fist were with him as well and they brought a lot of firepower for such a small group. Fortunately our new 'allies' took the brunt of their wrath. The Tau Commanders are just as powerful as reported...when we turn on them we will have to find a way to counter their speed & blistering fire power. We should use the enemy of our enemy as long as we can. --- p.s. I also got a quick game against @kb10r Tzeench deamons...but we wont talk about that beating 😉

    40k Winter Warzone - kb10r

Week -1 B The horrors reformed into real space and we continued our exploration of the imperial city. In a more industrial area, mostly free from destruction, a bright light shone out in the warp. A fellow psyker was ahead. Hidden forms of Alpha Legion brothers at the edge of sight lurked. These Brothers had fallen so far, the smell of Nurgle was on them, so they must be destroyed. The nurgle infested moved forward to bring their guns to bear, a few horror fell, to no account. I would gather them, or their like, again. Everything returns to Tzeentch to be spawned anew. Ignoring the rhino moving to the flank, the pinkies split fire and removed two small cultist units. The cultists shouted praises were stilled, the coruscating flames of tzeentch purified these lost ones, at least their smell. The enemy rhino had a tremendous charge forward, ramming into the pink horrors. Tying them up most annoyingly, the horrors claws ever so slowly tearing out pieces of plate. Maybe their numbers would work where skill fails. The herald lost a chunk of his immaterial flesh to a sniper shot, with only his shifting form saving him. Perhaps he will be more forthcoming with his plans in the future. He ran to the horrors, assisting them with Strength and Smite against the rhino. A great mechanical warp beast blocked the way, spitting out heavy caliber rounds, and I brought my claws to bear with help from a smaller horrors unit. While damaging it, I failed to bring it to its knees. It scampered backwards, leaving me exposed! The cheek of this beast! My horrors cavorted around me, giving protection from the oncoming fire, as is their purpose. A charging Alpha legion leader struck deep, wounding me more than I want to admit. Finally, the pink horrors, after rounds of petting, destroyed the Rhino, leaving them free for another strike. Strategically, making a backward advance from combat, I returned to my horrors. They needed my guidance, and their fire melted away the small enemy marine squad. Repeated sniper shots stuck my armor, and a re-shift in time was needed to avoid a possibly fatal wound. This afront must be avenged and the last Alpha legion leader turned to dust under the weight of flames. Not much was left, but a claw from that warp infused machine will be a fine addition to the throne room.

Week -1 The portal shimmered and the small scouting force spread out into a new world. An imperial world. At least it was. The ruined buildings, and rubble blocked streets, were comforting. Change was all around. The clean and pretty, shifting to something new. The Horrors gibbered and danced around, poking into the nooks and crannies and looking for anything of interest, leaving behind a scrap of the warp. On the far side of the plaza, figures were moving with purpose, green figures, Orks. They are such ugly beasts, with little to no glimmer in the warp. We make do with what we are given. the orks let out a howl and ran forward firing their crude weapons. A few Horrors dissolved but the units held. Everything frolicked forward and let loose with the flames of tzeentch, gloriously melting orks by the handfuls, but the remnants of a unit of Boyz reformed with reinforcements behind the main force. Such Trickery should be rewarded, but not now. Their guns destroyed a unit of Horrors, which popped into nothingness. The remaining main force of Boyz charged in and began chopping Horrors left and right, but the power of tzeentch made them miss by just enough, or their axes would glance off into the dirt and the horrors held. My counter charge removed the Ork leaders head and the orks fell away, unable to continue. So much loot to festoon the throne room, so much fun. This was a good portent of things to come.

Playing around with papercraft terrain. I could get much nicer results if I used heavier cardstock instead of just plain old printer paper, but these are good enough and only cost pennies per building (instead of dimes per building).

I did a thing... Picked up Wildfire

OK - New job in November is about 5-6 minutes from Glimpses ... I have been I a couple times on my lunch hour and looked at the Operation Wildfire box more than a few times. Yesterday I bit the bullet and got it. I was told that Infinity is played Thursdays starting @ 6. I will try to drop in next week to refresh myself with the game. A few years ago I picked up Icestorm and US Ariadna. I had played a few demos - but then just didn't get back into it - or played more 40k at the time. Then it wasn't convenient to play at WoW or a shop after work. But things have changed now - to trying to get back into a regular gaming thing. Any local meta I need to be aware of? expectations? new books or materials? -d

House of Chains - lite review

I like the idea of codices, in the abstract, as it makes it easier to create a baseline for the game as a whole (the “big black book”) and then section off the exceptions or tweaks to that baseline in distinct groups (the codices). The problem with the codex model, of course, is when a publisher decides to have 48 codices, 15 codex supplements, 8 campaign books, and so forth. But can GW restrain themselves to House of X books for just the core gangs, that’s the question.

House of Chains - lite review

Hey folks just wanted to throw some of my thoughts down after having some time with the house of chains book, as well as the new stimmer and forge born kit. it looks like the’ House of...’ series will play out similar to a codex for necromunda. Definitely some good and some bad, depending on your point of view. off the bat, the book is gorgeous. There are full color art plates, lots of new art and photos, and a ton of fluff - like 30 pages of the history of house Goliath. Super evocative stuff. There’s also a bunch of stealth rules tweaks that definitely speak towards what necromunda 2.0 looks like. The language around Group Activations, having multiple equipment load outs and using leaders and Champs to pass tests related to bottling are all turned into special rules for specific models. They’ve added a specialist champion type, and a new type of juve analogue (prospects). Juves have a different progression tree than prospects, as well as stats and equipment options. It does look like they want primarily champs and leaders to be the ones taking rare weapons from the trading post or black market, which could be a bummer for some folks’ model ranges, (looking at you, delaque ganger with a lascannon) but personally, I think it’s probably a good move for the health of the game. There’s still ways to field the more esoteric models, etc. They also help balance down special weapon use. Only specialist gangers (along with leaders and champs) can take items from the special weapon category, instead of the somewhat nebulous ‘only buy one at the start.’ Each gang gets one ganger upgraded to specialist upon recruitment as well. there is also a shift in how you can recruit models, juves, prospects and gangers all have the ‘gang fighter’ rule - this means they collectively have to make up 50% or more of your gang. This does allow for easier recruitment of additional champions. (I wonder if this helps nerf corpse grinders and enforcers who have a hard cap on the number of champs) House of chains has specific equipment lists for leaders, the two champ types and the two juve types, as well as gangers. This effectively gives you a little more access to rare equipment starting out, and seems like it’ll really make gangs differentiate once additional books are out. And the Gangs of the Underhive list is always available if a campaign wants to cut way back on specialty equipment. Slave ogryn Gang looks awesome. i mean, in game, they’ll be fairly terrible, and get pinned a lot, but.... ogryns There’s a new list of muscle skills that are Goliath only. they seem decently balanced, and pretty flavorful. the rules for gene smithing is something I know I’ve heard concerns about. Being able to custom tailor starting stat lines could be brutal in the wrong hands (hopefully necromunda has few enough of ‘that guy’, but still, don’t be that guy). Any of your fighters can be vat-born, Nat-born (+20 creds) or unborn (+10 creds), representing the different castes in Goliath society. Each of the three have slight starting stat tweaks, and unique lists of gene smithing upgrades, almost half of which actually decrease stats and the ganger’s cost. there definitely could be room for abuse by min-max ing, by they’re also really evocative. Theoretically since they’re all costed, you run the classic risk of toys vs boys, if you really go all out. ( I may add some more when I hit my lunch break )

Koyote's Britons & other SAGA Stuff

I want to have several equipment options for my Warlord, so I purchased Shieldwolf Miniatures Goblin Hero with 2 Handed Weapon to serve as my Warlord on foot. The axe blade is absurdly large, but for me that's part of this model's ridiculous charm. To accentuate the massive overhead blow this fellow is about to deliver to some hapless foe, I mounted the Warlord on a stump. Equipping a Warlord with a heavy weapon is a gamble, as it reduces its melee armor to 4 and prevents the Warlord from Closing Ranks. With this in mind, I converted a spear from bits found in the GW Spider Rider kit, so that the Warlord can be equipped with a regular hand weapon (i.e. "no equipment). The plan is to insert small magnets into the wrists and hands so that I can swap out weapons. The model still needs some greenstuff work to make him look more like a proper forest goblin.

    9th Age Escalation Campaign

Searing, senseless slaughter! Subsuming its name, had been supposed to grant the daemonic agent power. Power enough to earn its existence this side of the veil. Damned distracted disappointments! The elven blade would not truly kill but never end the Herald. Its existence was too spoken for by something greater something stronger. Something that the Herald had failed. Pained portents pact. Thrice the Herald had failed. First, the lush valleys in the domain of the Jade Emporer had rebuffed its legion. Warriors of stone proving the match for veil forged blade and fire that would melt the flesh from the man and dwarf and elf. Second the Teeth of Nimis marched on a great wonder of these short lived solid-forms. A whole countryside's fecundity stored in some simple structures. Crimson feathered arrows broke the mage-flesh Legionaires the last league of their conquest. Stout elven sword and the ferocity of their chained flesh-beasts banished the Herald a second time! Still an agent of Father Chaos claimed by his grandson, would not be denied. The third prize would be the god-fruit of a single protected orchard. A simple prize, a few slow-changing trees in a world so boringly full of them! Why must the elves always stand in its way! Before its myriad of myrmidons, silent mists revealed whirlwinds of elven steel. Unchanging-ones that moved so fluid, it challenged the difference the Herald knew between its realm and this stinking pit. Then there was the veil-walker cowards bound to boughs of living-hard wood, they had stomped through its fire-toting imps and shattered the engine which would've harvested the fruit. Thrice it had failed. Eventual excruciating extinction. The Herald would not be given a fourth chance. Seven marches from any coast, surrounded by the Teeth of its patron the Herald. Waited for the moment. It was this moment. Daemons of its station live by the order of greaters, and this night it would be the sweet meat of a true grandchild of the father. Nimis would rise hungry and ever-starved.

Adam @thediceabide, and Jon @WiseKensai are the two warcors in Portland, they both regualarly play at Glimpses. Adam lives in Sherwood, and Jon works at intel, lives on the westside, so Glimpses is their most convenient shop. I'm sure they'd both be happy to help teach the game, the local meta is very welcoming. chill. As people have said there is no meta list. Which is good, because things are not cookie cutter. But also has its down sides, its hard to copy someone else's play and "do alright." The game has a lot of general rule that apply to everything are are shared accross factions, and very few rules which are restricted to 1 or a handful of factions, so it can be overwhelming at first to lean all the general rules. Play some smaller games with Adam and Jon, and don't be concerned about winning, just be concerned about trying stuff and seeing what things do. And as you start to make your own lists, as said there is not a magic list but there are some good general guidelines; 1. Spend all/most your SWC, these points buy you more powerful guns/profiles, not spending them leaves points on the table, 2. Bring a variety of guns, so you can be effective at a variety of ranges, 3. Bring a mix of cheap guys and powerful guys. Cheap guys fulfill lots of purposes, pushing buttons, watching you six, etc., but they also provide orders more cost effectively which lets you do things. A powerful expenseive guy only can be activated once on his own during a turn. If he has cheap friends you can activate him more giving your more options. Finding a good mix of expensive and cheap guys that works for you is a large part of developing your play style.

    The Infinity Run

Okay, I bought an Arjuna box at Glimpses and I actually put it together in less than a month. I started on Friday night and remember I own an dremel and it would make removing injection tabs and molds so much easier. After looking for it for two hours on Saturday, I gave up and started working on the models by hand. My wife found the dremel on Sunday morning. She had moved and a I would have never found it. So, I assembled the kit and properly assembled the models. The Kiranbot with the Emarat in his left had is a pain to make the arms meet. It took some metal bending, but I made it work. I looked at the profile and am thinking the Shock Marksman Rifle is the the best, but I could see using the Boarding Shotgun as well. I may trying them in a few lists. If not. they are going to be Devabots for a Deva. Finally, I started working on my other Rudras gunbot, so I could copy @thediceabide and make an EVO Bot out of it. I was happy to have the dremel to the lines on that model.
