I'm super stoked for Combat Patrol sized games. Tactical Squads shine at low levels like this where the Primaris boys are too expensive. Also, my new Guard army I've been eyeballing will love it.

Yeah, the problem with “flip it and move on” is that the other player can just flip it back... and Custodes really don’t have much shooting and don’t move terribly fast. I’m totally genuinely excited to play this mission though. It looks like it’s going to be the perfect combination of strategic mental puzzle as I try to come up with a list, tactical mental puzzle as I try to respond to my opponent’s actions during the game, and good old fashioned dice chuckin’ as the Random Number Gods decide to @&#% with us both.

Drukhari Faction Focus is up. The big thing is taking 3 patrols will take up net 0 CPs. So we can mix the different sub-factions without getting punished by the new detachment system. It essentially mimics a single battalion list in terms of mandatory slots and CP pool but with one additional HQ required. In exchange, we get the flexibility of mixing kabals/cults/covens as well as doubling the maximum FA, HS, and Flyer slots. I'm looking forward to these builds being worth taking again. In 8th, the triple patrol Raiding Force uses all 3 available detachments and only creates a pool of 7 C

I dunno, I dunno, you'll have 3 units, most of the preview patrols had 4. Since you don't need to squat on the objectives seems you'll have a decent shot.

For sure.... The Yncarne adds zero to my Wraith list. I am looking forward at an expansion into some Ynnari territory down the road. I might just try it in chrome, that's a pretty solid idea. I may prime her white, so the colors pop a bit better. I could test out colored washes over the chrome to give that rainbow effect. Not sure. I may just punt on this one, and finish the other stuff first. It's hard not to lose sight of the goal... Get the wraith host painted! I am going to buckle down. Wraith host first, then the other stuff. 🙂

Combat Patrol preview is up too. Missions and force organization charts specifically tailored to smaller format games of 500 Points. (Not coincidentally, I’m sure, each “half” of the Indomitus box fills out a Combat Patrol... and so do most of the Start Collecting boxes.)

The swirling psychic energy tornado thingy* around the Avatar of David Bowie Yncarne would probably look awesome in that chrome paint... Although I don’t think she really adds much synergy with a Wraithguard heavy army, at least not for the 300+ points she’ll probably cost next edition. * That’s the technical term, right?

Getting modeling done... The other 2 characters in the Triumverate box are less likely to see battle for me, so I started with Yvraine. Why did her hair need to be 3 pieces? Wtf GW... Visarch will be easy to model, so I'll do him up. I am debating leaving the Ycarne on the sprue for a while. Not sure how I'd paint it anyway.

I broke my rule, and bought more models... Picked of a Fire Prism/Nightspinner kit, Eldrad, and the Triumvirate of Ynnead. I guess I added some painting to my queue. I'm still trying to get this all mostly done during the summer, before I go back to teaching in the fall. Shouldn't be a problem, but I also wanted to start a Kill Team and Combat Patrol for the Mortifactors. I guess I need to stop dilly dallying around, and paint!

The corsair cloak is an amazing addition to the Rangers. The colors look great!

Given that the international maritime trade is still reeling from Coronavirus (a third of the world’s total merchant fleet is Chinese flagged, more than half of all maritime trade passes through a Chinese port in any given year, and the vast majority of merchant seamen are Indonesian, Phillipino, Vietnamese, or Chinese) it is probably in GW’s best interest not too commit to a specific date too far in advance. Yes, GW does the bulk of their manufacturing in the UK these days (plus a small amount in the US) rather than in China... But GW still has to move their products via commercial ship

If nobody offers up before Sunday, I’ll dig out my orks and be happy to give it a go. But it’s been a couple weeks years since I played much 8th. I could field a pretty classic boyz and some trukks or a forge world heavy - grot tank and scrap tank list, if you’ve got a preference. but I expect somebody who’s been playing more regularly would give a better game.

Pretty close to done. I might change the sword from a "wraithbone" sword to a proper power sword. Not sure yet.

I "finished" the Rangers yesterday. I will likely go back with fresh eyes and do some clean up and top highlights. I tend to do that before sealing or varnishing anything. I'm done with infantry units. 10 Wraith Guard, 10 Wraith Blades, 10 Rangers, 5 Dire Avengers. The Wraiths aren't very converted. Rangers are heavily converted from Dark Elf Corsairs, Guardians, and 3d printed bits. The DA are pretty basic, but with head swaps. I'm happy with them. Next up is the character cadre.
