  1. I would LOVE to play against two Warhounds! I've always wanted to see these guys in action, but just can't talk my wife into spending that much money on ONE, let alone two. And while I'm pretty sure you could kill most of my army, I'm thinking I might have a few surprises in it for you. My intent in the first post was really - "hard" lists don't make bad games and "soft" lists don't make good games. Fun games come from people, matchups (because we want to play people with similarly styled lists), and atmosphere - all of which OFCC traditionally delivers in spades. And I just had a thought - for all of my games this year, whenever a '1' is rolled, the opponent of whoever rolled it (so either me or the guy across the table) has to take a swig of their beverage of choice (mine will be root beer). Maybe it won't hurt so bad when I roll 5 1's on 6 dice for armor saves and pick up a Terminator squad
  2. I had to back away for a bit, and take a few deep breaths, because at the end of the day, this is all just a game. First, please don't bring up the Spirit of the OFCC. I was at the first OFCC at the armory that Raindog mentions. It was this experience that led me to create and run the first OFCC 40k. And attend just about every OFCC 40k since (missing only due to illness). I understand the Spirit of the OFCC, what made (and makes) it great, and what makes people want to come back. Second, and I can't stress this enough, I'm not recommending bringing some ultra-soft Smurf list to fight a Barkstar (I am assuming that is a Thunderwolf Deathstar list?). I'm saying bring what you enjoy playing, and you can find opponents to give you good, fun, COMPETITIVE games at OFCC. Because whether it's beer & pretzels or not, this is a game that is still about victor and victim. Please don't mistake competitive for WAAC (it seems this is a common misconception) - I can be competitive running a single CAD, no allies or detachments, fluff-puppy of a list. I still want to win, and will employ strategy and tactics to try and ensure that. That is what makes me competitive, and what brings me back to OFCC. And while this may be a beer & pretzels weekend for a lot of people, wheat causes migraines (so no pretzels) and I don't drink (so no beer) - so what would I get out of it? (That is meant to be tongue in cheek!)
  3. I really think you just didn't want to finish your Genestealer Cult army in time for OFCC :-)
  4. I keep hearing this, and it really frustrates me. Why do people continually assume if you are playing a tournament (or "hard") list, it will result in a bad game? And why is it also assumed if you play a "soft" list, it will result in a good game? I don't care what kind of list you are playing, I want to play games that will be competitive, because those will be fun. If my army is way overpowered or underpowered compared to yours, it will not be a fun game. It has no bearing on whether it is a "hard" or "soft" list. And even more than lists, it really comes down to you and your opponent. One of my favorite games in the last three years (and one I talk about a lot), I got tabled in 30 min - basically, we had not business playing each other. However, my opponent was awesome, we laughed at how easily land raiders die, and I had a great game - even though my opponent had a "hard" list and I had a "soft". Please stop trying to base fun games around what list you are playing or what army you are playing, and start basing fun games around being the kind of opponent anybody would love to play, no matter the army or list.
  5. Yes, WHFB OFCC originally had teams of any size (though I think there was a minimum). All members of a club (or group from a store) were on a team. The 40K OFCC has had 4-man teams since the second year (not sure on the first, I remember there were 20 people, but not sure if they were split into 4-man teams), splitting clubs up to work with the unique matching system.
  6. *SIGH* - Well, I can't really complain about army ADD - I suffer as well. Good luck (and I agree with fluger, start a new thread!)
  7. Twelve days - c'mon Bryan, you're killing me here! I'm living vicariously through your posts and that means I'm not living much right now. :-/
  8. And planning - I'd really like as much time planning as possible ;-)
  9. So, I realize the holidays can be intrusive and all, but I don't see any updates (and it's been three weeks). Is it time to bust out the shame memes again?
  10. More typos: Mission 1 - "Upon lading on this backwards planet" should probably read "Upon landing..." Mission 1 - "You must kill the entire unit to earn the victory points." should probably read "... earn the victory point." Only one point is awarded for each unit. Mission 2 - Example #2 - you control 3 objectives, opponent controls 1 - this results in 3 points. The opponent probably should control 2 objectives for 2 points. Mission 3 - rolled objective "3 - Have 3 yours no enemy 12" from deployment edge" makes no sense to me at all. I don't have a clue what is trying to be said. Mission 3 - not a typo, but I would make objective 4 "4 - Destroy a non-Walker Vehicle" and make objective 10 "10 - Destroy a Monstrous Creature or Walker" Mission 4 - not a typo, but I would recommend putting the page number of the BRB where Relics are defined/explained. Mission 4 - you do not need to say "divide the table into four quarters" - simply state "divide the table into quarters". Four quarters is redundant. Mission 5 - not a type, but I would recommend putting the page number of the BRB where The Scouring is explained. Mission 5 - "One additional rule." is not a sentence. "Each ojective is an sabotaged objective that explodes on a 4+." has two errors. Last sentence has one error (either capitalize sabotaged or make Objective lower case). I would rewrite the three sentences as: "Each objective is a Sabotaged Objective, per Mysterious Objectives on pg. XXX of the BRB. However, rather than exploding on a roll of 1, the Sabotaged Objective explodes on a 4+." The stories for each mission are cool, but they could really use some tightening. If it wasn't so close, I would volunteer to help.
  11. I'll bring a couple decks. By no means competitive, I enjoy playing them :-D
  12. *SIGH* - it was bound to happen. My team has a list that needs a slight change - is it still possible to change the list? Thanks!
  13. I know it's sad, but after reading all this, I couldn't help but think: "You want a answers?" "I want a FAQ!" "You can't HANDLE A FAQ!"
  14. I have several team members who are not part of this forum - do they need to register with Ordo in order to purchase tickets? It states forum name required.
