ZEKE got a reaction from phyfor88 in Clarification in Missions, V4 LateWar rulebook
Going through the NEW V4 Flames of War Rulebook they rolled out with the Late War (copyright 2019 inside the cover), I was looking at the missions and spotted some clarification.  Look at the missions and at the bottom WINNING THE GAME (ex.FREE FOR ALL, p106) "A player wins if they END THEIR TURN Holding one of the Objectives that they placed on the opponent's side of the table".
    Now turn to p102
    HOLDING OBJECTIVES
You are Holding an Objective if you START you turn with a Tank, Infantry, or Gun team within 4" of an Objective, and end it with no opposing Tank, Infantry, or Gun teams within 4" of that Objective. (so now this concept is official and no longer derived from the MORE MISSIONS pdf posted on the webpage)
Objectives cannot be Held by Tank Teams that are Bailed Out, Aircraft, Transports, or Independent Teams. Nor can these teams prevent the enemy from Holding an Objective. (pay attention to the key words at the top of the unit cards)
Teams that Moved at Dash speed cannot take an Objective nor prevent the enemy from taking it. (that's now "too little too late" so no racing over to keep the game from ending)

I went through page by page comparing the new LW copyright 2019 rule book to the original MW rulebook looking for changes. Here is what I found.
    1. Main body of rules are still intact.
    2. country specific special rules were updated to include Americans and Russians, to add LW specific special rules and take out MW only special rules.
the biggest changes are in the Missions area
    3. NEW definition of HOLDING OBJECTIVE
    4. NEW method of determining winner for each Mission
    5. Chart added for determining who is attacker and what mission to use (all based on each players choice of attack, mobile, defend preferences).

So this is how it is formatted now, interesting. In past V2 & V3, I Think the Normandy german platoons were modeled with with 6xMG teams, then choose either Cmd Knacker or Cmd Faust team.  I wouldn't be surprised come bagration that the LIMITED 1 rule would be taken out.

Mr. Nelson,  Thanks again for organizing this event. Had lots of good games and enjoyed the day. You have given me some ideas for next year and hopefully I will be more in gear to run it again.

Excellent event. Had a lot of fun and great group of participants.  I am still trying to figure out how I won, yeah I know Stuart swarm, but my first look at those Stuart's being hit on 2+ really had my doubts but I figured it would be fun destroying lots of tanks. Chalk it up to "sun shines on a dog's ass every now and then".  Thanks everyone.

ZEKE got a reaction from phyfor88 in Mid vs Late FoW?
From the tankers point of view, this is generally how the different periods  go.
Early War - lots of BAILED out tanks due to weapons systems having a higher firepower.  Because of the lots of bailed out tanks on the table, Instead of being outright killed, most tanks seem to be sitting in the penalty box (bailed) for a while then get back in the game.
Mid War - probably the most balanced of all the periods
Late War - lots of insta-kills.  With the higher AT numbers and the Lower firepower, things go poof more easily.

TEAM YANKEE - insane amounts of insta-kills.  "I WAS winning ... and then I lost 5 tanks."

As for the new V4 rules,  this new MidWar stuff is born out of the V4 system, while Late War is currently using conversion rules.  So, V4 will feel kinda glitchy.

Been using some borrowed Brits so I learn the V4 rules and it's been fun.  Play is a little smoother & slightly quicker with the data cards (so worth it if they come out with a pack of them that you can purchase).
Airplanes are really fun.  They are more interactive with the game and can operate closer to your troops.  You'll get them 1/2 the time on average. You get 2 planes, each one shooting at their own targets. But as they get shot down, they don't come back, just like the rest of your army.

Played a good learning game last night at Oregon City Geeks & Games.
A friend of mine lent me his british stuff to use, 120 pts wysiwyg. Had a basic infantry company, a basic crusader II company (with a grant platoon), a full Honey Stuart company (with a grant platoon), 25 pdr arty, OP stuart, and a couple Hurricanes.  That,s a lot of stuff especially now that HQ are considered platoons. The game I played was against mostly uparmored PzIII, arty, inf plt, couple 8rads and a couple 88s.
    1) Airplanes did alright, they were able to get on board 50% and they did knock out the 88s and a PzIII.  you have to have 2x airplanes and the wave off is not measured 16" from friendly troops to airplane but 8" from friendly troops to targeted teams allowing planes to operate closer to friendly troops. those huricanes were fun to use.
    2) Was surprised  to see the stuart being slower than the crusaders (as far as tactical move & shoot ability).  But on the "Dash" moves, the stuart is faster.
    3) platoon morale check after being shot at is now done during the players opening turn after teams have a chance to bail-in, un-bog etc (not after they were shot at and again on your turn when you are below strength). Now these Brits I was using are formed into 3x team platoons. After 2 tanks are knocked out they have to start rolling for morale and the Brit built in morale is 5+ which makes them run easily, but they are cheaper and therefore more platoons so you don't lose your entire army to a dice roll.
    4) Artillery, yeah I know that they neutered its ability to kill tanks. In V3 the game did favor infantry and allowed anything to kill tanks causing the metagame to evolve into mostly infantry companies at tournaments and making it very hard for tank companies to compete.  This is why I agree with pairing down the arty.  But ranged in token placement is better since it doesn't have to be on a team, you can place that marker anywhere, and Mortars also get ranged in token.
All in all the game was still fun, still same amount of time, just a different flavor. I did win the game, not by taking objectives but by forcing company morale which they couldn't make because the Huricanes blasted his only CIC. Since I am mostly a "Beer & Pretzles" type of player (meaning I don't get uber tourny competetive just playing a game) this new V4 is no problem & makes some things more fun rather than work. Will be playing more.

That's OK, we're trying to play this out more openly.  For the Generals portion (with the big map and moving all the counters on the map), those who show up get to participate. There are no dedicated sides or dedicated commanders.  This campaign does have a Narrator, that's Barca. He will be pushing along the storyline using whoever shows up for the generals portion and using the combined results of everybody's individual games. Individual games can be played at the store, at home, in another state.  So essentially, we have the Narrator and the rest of us will contribute whichever way we can to help the narrator more things along.  You can play West German, then play Russian, then be a General for the day when the generals portion comes up.   Just Participate Participate Participate and have fun.  The campaing/story will go however it rolls.

I can do 97 pts for team yankee, which I am bringing, and I am interested in the new V4 midwar stuff.  I only have a few german tanks so essentially I don't have stuff. I have been thinking of asking Boss if I can borrow some of his brit stuff so I can learn, till then I wouldn't mind if anybody has stuff I can push around. I want to learn this new V4 midwar stuff since I keep seeing new people playing it and they are enjoying it.

The main thing I noticed with the Team Yankee paints and Colors of War paints is that they use the same serial number even though they sometimes change the name, example:

    TYP341 NATO Green = FWP341 Tankovy Green

So then, I just had to find the colors of war conversion charts to vallejo

I noticed that I forgot to put the start time.  It is the usual 11:00 am start time.  I will show up around 10:00 to start setting up tables.

Being that this is all vehicles, games should go quickly.  I am allowing about 1-1/2 hours for each session which can be shortened if all games are done quickly.  I am planning on a 45min lunch break between games 1 & 2 and about 20 minutes between games 2 & 3 unless everybody wants to jump straight to the last game.

Again this is an event more than it is a competition. Prizes are small but numerous.  I did put in some of time & skill and painted up some of the prize stuff to help make it better,

Thank you Washington Players for the games and for making this happen, I enjoyed it.

On a side note, there was some serious discussion about what I think were some advanced and complex rules.  I have been asking BF forums about their opinions, haven't heard back from any actual Battlefront staff but here is some of the findings.

List specific rules do Clown the standard rulebook.

    Example:
A list that states specifically how to deply certain units happens before the mission states half-on / half-off. So, if you are running 6 platoons and 2 of which get deployed by your list specific rules, you deploy them per your rules. The remaining 4 platoons are then deployed as normal, thus putting only 2 platoons in reserve.

Another thing I am still trying to find out is the effect of night-time on Airborne/Glider insertions.

Only a month to go. Haven't heard many peeps chiming in so I'll lax on the lists. You DON'T have to include a special character/warrior team. But if you do, I'll add 3 pts to your painting score. If you don't have a warrior/character then your HQ element will be used for paint judging.

Having served in military intelligence I too have participated in wargaming exercises at div and corps HQ level. We spent every hour of every day of every week work out all aspects of the exercise and it took a couple battalions of men to work the logistics. Trust me there is no game in existence that can simulate combat. Therefore, I only like to play what is fun and enjoyable and as soon as a game is no longer enjoyable I'm out. And if someone is going to be an ass about 'have to finish' or 'then I win' they ruin the game for me putting a bad taste in my mouth thus killing the game for me.

As for the 285th scale minis, you could still use flames of war rules, just change the inch symbol to cm. 32" gun range equals 32 cm. You could make a travel fow set

Agree about it being 1 dimensional.  For us wargamers well versed in the more complicated, it would seem like Chute & Ladders.  But as a hanging out with friends (that aren't deep into wargaming) & drinking beer it sounds like fun.  One of the reasons why I like Wings of Glory, it's simple enough for average people to enjoy & have fun.  But as for tank action, I still like Tank Aces the best.
