  1. I am not a fan of the cookie-cutter nature of the list, not too thrilling to play/play against IMO. That said... If you're looking to maximize killiness, you might consider replacing one or both sternguard squads with 5 man assault and dual flamers. Huge point savings to the point that you can fit 3 assault squads for those two sternguard and the re-rolls for flamers mean you're likely only losing out on a couple wounds and AP4. You can use the remaining points to give combi weapons to tac sergeants and/or add bodies to those squads so you can live to see turn 3 when you're landing inside double-tap range of every gun your opponent has. Fun/fluffy or competitive, I think you'll have issues going for late game random objectives, but that is the nature of a pods list since aside from the knight, you're without significant mobility after arrival.
  2. I feel like #3 is one of the defining characteristics of Necrons for most players. Getting back up and gauss weapons? Must be Necrons... Considering the balance brought to the hellturkey, I think an adjustment to points, rules, or both for the night scythes (#6) is pretty likely. I would expect entropic strike (or whatever the name for their armor reducing rules is) to be adjusted to less book keeping. Just a guess though.
  3. Just took some miniatures out of a 24 hour bath in Purple Power last night. I found it stripped acrylic paints very well, but hardly put a dent in what I assume (second hand paint job) was enamel red primer. Aggressive toothbrush scrubbing on the red after 24 hours created some slightly pink/red foam, but no noticeable surface change on the red paint. I might try throwing the red back in for another day or two and see how long that really takes to dissolve, videos I saw online had people leaving figures in PP for over 72 hours without damage to the plastic though the metal had a slight tarnished look in one example that didn't seem to be reducing detail. Absolutely no damage to the plastic and the metal pieces were bare with minimal exception after a quick scrubbing. Superglue was definitely weakened, some smaller joints came apart in my hands with minimal effort, but larger joints (space marine waist, neck, backpack, etc.) stayed solid. All that said, I have seen side by side comparisons with simple green online where simple green won out stripping metal models, I went with PP because a couple threads mentioned it being effective on Army Painter colored primer. If I decide to strip more models I might try that next time, I bought a gallon of PP for under $5 already.
  4. Giant unit of dwarf slayers? I'm not up to speed on WHFB, but 1200ish points of ~90+ slayers that get to swing back regardless of death sounds entertaining. Salt and pepper with banner, giant slayers, etc. to taste if this would actually be feasible.
  5. Going through boxes of stuff, I came across my bare, un-assembled, Brother Artemis for Inquisitor. Might be an interesting art piece, primarch conversion, or maybe someone here actually plays that game, who knows. Seems to be complete, down to the grenade bandoliers/belts (2), necklace/pendant, weird sword-arm shield thingy, and combat knife I don't really know what is reasonable to ask for him, if anyone has advice, please let me know. Ebay seems to think a mediocre paint job inquisitor model pulls around $30-50, not sure if that is reasonable to expect. If interested, please send me a PM with a price. If I haven't sold him in a week or so I'll throw him out to bid-land (ebay). I prefer to do a cash transaction in the PDX area, but am willing to do paypal if necessary. Picture 1 Picture 2

    Yup
  7. I like that the newer factions codex releases have included specialized objective cards which seem to be slightly different than the rule book version (only have the set for space wolves, but I know Orks have them, maybe GK too), not too overpowered in my limited experience, but it gives a touch more flavor towards that army's fluff/playstyle. I think full on deck building could get dangerous quick; picture Saim Hann style eldar with nothing but objective and movement/position based objectives to draw from. The new system seems to force a more interactive game (move around and engage) rather than a less dynamic 6th ed style game (gunline with a 4th turn objective sieze because the game could end). Whether intentional or not, it does seem to encourage a list with a bit of everything to be able to go for every possible objective. Definitely needs an improved discard/redraw mechanic though.
  8. That team display was probably my favorite of the event. Nice fade between armies, good backdrop picture, and well painted forces laid out. Well done!
  9. Thank you for posting these scores. I had a great time and hope to be back next year to do it all again, hopefully with improved paint scores and shooting for 3+ fav-opponent pins. I'm gonna bring cookies...
  10. I agree there are some things wrong with maelstrom missions (the discard and impossible objective mechanics being two big issues to change for sure), but I feel like they are a strong step towards balancing list building and have greatly enjoyed playing them whenever I've had a well rounded list. I feel like they enable a more dynamic game rather than letting someone single-mindedly tailor their list to exploit a rules combination for unstoppable cheddar and pretty much guaranteeing their opponent is bored/frustrated the whole time.

    Doctor Who Season 8

I still miss Eccleston, I'm bitter he only got one season and the lowest budget season at that. Capaldi strikes me as being a grown-up but still spazzy version of Tennant, who I wasn't that into previously.
  12. This. When I've played against Orks with only 1-2 trukks, no problem popping them and mopping up the mess from a distance. Facing 4+ with other vehicle threats to divide your anti-vehicle attention and suddenly you're going to be seeing them make contact somewhere and then they get to start playing their game. The trukk itself is only a delivery system, at most give it a ram to get thru terrain, otherwise turn one cruise and flat out to set up for a turn 2 assault.
  13. Well, I have a 3D printer and the means to model the conversion bits, so I'll crank a couple out and see what I think of them. I need to get the IA book and get a better idea of the rules for them, likely decide if they're worth considering from that alone.
  14. I have a drop pod space wolves army and have been eyeballing making them a bit more competitive; any one have experience using or playing against either version of the deathstorm pods? Are they worth their points, or do they function as an exaggeration of the one-and-done nature of a drop pod alpha strike?
  15. For those who play loyalist marines of any flavor, do you find yourself using more land speeders than previous editions when planning for maelstrom missions? Given the random nature of ever-changing objectives throughout the game, I feel like they've finally given me a reason to start using them again (long time Salamanders player, so I tended to avoid them for fluff reasons anyways outside of a Storm to haul a few scouts around). They're still paper-thin as far as armor goes, but I feel like they have more of a place in test-lists than before with their ability to capture distant (unoccupied) objectives. The LSS even more so with 'ObSec' and minor transport capacity. I suppose bike armies wouldn't need that added movement quite as much, but even they can benefit to some degree.
  16. Seriously though, I do agree with the sentiment on other sites/threads I have seen about Mr. Ward in that some of the full-cheese-ahead rules he became infamous/controversial for was likely pushed on him from above to move product. His fluff (or rote assassination of decades of previous GW fluff) and ridiculous over-the-top pieces (which is saying something for GW settings/stories) were unforgivable in my eyes.
  17. Now if only someone can convince Nick Kyme that Salamanders marines can go back to not being obsidian-black with red eyes...
  18. I apologize if this has already been posted elsewhere, I'll admit I didn't do a great search. Is there an ideal size for a display/transport board for the event/venue setup? The last time I went there was space on tables between boards which seemed better suited to some sizes than others; smaller obviously being easier to work with, but sometimes looking bunched and cluttered. Since I'm planning on making a display board, I figured I should ask up front rather than trying to change plans midway thru assembly/painting. It's really nice not having to spend time packing/unpacking every single model between rounds... Thanks for any help or info.
  19. These look great, awesome thread!
  20. I've missed Ordo, so glad I came back
  21. Well after a little play-testing and taking constructive comments into account, I think I have a final list adjustment worked out. I did relent and dropped the flakk missiles for the hunter to get some reliably threatening anti-air, scraped some points off some upgrades to make room for some other tweaks, and ended up a bit more melta-centric since vehicles really are more difficult to remove this edition. The added multi-meltas are supplementary anti-air with a re-rolled snap shot, but still not overly reliable if the Hunter gets destroyed. Hopefully still solidly in the level 2 territory. 22. Play-tested a bit last night and found I could use just a touch more ranged template support and figured OFCC is a great chance for the often-neglected whirlwind to make a comeback. Dropped vet status on the two sgt's who had it, they also lost their power fists, heavy bolter razor turned into a rhino, and dropped the extra storm bolter from the vindicator. With these points, I added a whirlwind, and an HK missile & extra storm bolter onto each rhino. 23. A slightly modified version of my OFCC list from a few years ago, figured I'd see if it is still suitable for the spirit of the event. I tried to shy away from the exclusive melta/flamer builds common to the more competitive salamander lists, avoided psychic entirely, fairly light on AA. Overall it is intended to be a friendly take-all-comes list that has decent balance and fits the salamander's fluff reasonably well. Any feedback is welcome and appreciated.
