  1. This is great! I know they continually talk about how they can grow and keep pumping out rules. If they can just get a miniature company now to help out...:)
  2. Not a big fan of AoS... I have given it a few goes and it just isn't what Warhammer was. It is a skirmish based game that just doesn't have the same feel behind it with mass unites marching across the field. Generals shouting out orders watching my goblins run because a fanatic just went right back through it or failing my stupidity with trolls on that crucial game winning turn six failed charged! The hardest thing so far for me is losing the fluff from warhammer...it was so deep and had such amazing feel to it (GW did a great job here). I enjoyed building an army around that more than anything else. I do think 9th age is trying to continue that and hope they keep at it. I agree...if you get a chance to go on the forum and check out what they are doing here...it reminds me of GW when they used to have their forums up in 6th-7th additions of warhammer. There seems to feel as though a strong community that is giving input. It isn't something that a few gamers are sitting around having a beer and saying why this sucks for my army so we need to change it. I do really believe they are play testing the crude out of it in hopes to make each army have its own unique feel while making all of your old models viable in this 9th Age. Orcs & Goblins got some great perks and they toned down some things also. Beast Herds and Dwarven Holds I think got some significant changes to get them up to par with other armies out there. One of the biggest adjustments for me so far has just to get used to the names. I have been so used to calling my Night Goblins, Night Goblins, Fanatics Fanatics having to switch to Cave Goblins, and Mad Gits is a hard transition but once you get used to it and you realize they still are my crazy O&G then no biggy. I know it isn't going to be for everyone but I do think we can keep fantasy battles alive (if you did have love for Warhammer). Long term...that I believe will be up to us if we get out and roll dice or just store the minis.
  3. So what do u guys think we need to try and do to get the interest level back up (if there is anything we can do). Start getting some people to run escalation leagues, small tournaments...that lead to bigger ones, talk with store owners to help set these up? Is that possible as they are now supporting a game that won't make em any money? Thoughts?
  4. Seems like if anyone has been following the 9th age site or YouTube lots of people are getting back into it. Just hopping to see the community give it a go dust off the mini's and role some dice. :)
  5. Anyone playing around Salem area? This has gotten me back into fantasy and am hoping to find some others out there to get back into it. I know the fear is it is a game that really isn't supported so many of the people that have been playing old Warhammer have left...why? Just wanting to feel the communities reasons why they are wanting to play or have stopped playing. Would like to build up community again so we can get some games in in the future!!!
  6. I am liking this so far...although it is only a quick glance. I am with flanders...boarderlands setting up a tourney to try out?
  7. Yeah new to getting pictures up...not sure if I know how.
  8. 9. My brother and I got our first game of AofS in last night. Overall first impression was it is ok. I went going in knowing it was not warhammer but a new game so I really didn't have any expectations (or tried really hard not to have any) and I think this helped. So we tried to set up some balancing so we decided 10 Scrolls and 120 wounds. We had no great reasoning for these numbers except for it felt like the right size to start with not to big not to small. Armies Brothers: Chaos Warriors Crom Chaos Sorcerer 15 Chaos Warriors 6 Chaos Nights 12 Forsaken 3 Ogres 15 Bloodletters 3 Chaos Spawn My Army: Chaos/Deamon of Nurgle Great Unclean One Chaos Nurgle Sorcerer 15 Nurgle Chaos Warriors 19 Plague Bearers 3 Drones 3 Dragon Ogres 3 Nurglings 5 Putrid Blightkin So we again just wanted to get to know rules and no have to much to think about. So Scenery didn't have any impact except movement. We got in only 3 rounds as it took us forever to get to know all the rules and warscrolls. So the good and bad. Good First... 1. I enjoyed the Warscrolls unit abilities. I think that this will be where most of the tactics come from in this game. There were some pretty cool abilities on units and I think you have to be aware of what units you chose to match up against your enemy! 2. It goes fast once you know rules. Game is simple and flows well. 3. Love the combat phase...going back and forth with units until all have fought does bring strategy to chose wisely to help you swing a battle in your favor. 4. Movement...my brother had a move with his chaos knights where they were pinched between two units...he snakes em all the way around his units to get them to the flank where my Dragon Ogres where ready to smash down his flank. Got his unit where he wanted it when he needed them there...at my Dragon Ogres disgust :). 5. Hero's and big beasties are not over the top. I also think here is where most of the other tactics are coming into play. Having your hero's around to support your units can swing the tide of a fight. 6. Rules simplified makes less rule fighting so made the game fun because we were not being picky on rules interpretation. Bad... 1. Already stated...BALANCE THIS GAME! There has to be something that comes out that can have some points balancing mechanic!!! Soon Please!!! 2. Summoning...can be way over powered there has to be some changed mechanic on this. I didn't take advantage of this last night but could have. The fact that I could have just summoned Greater Deamons, PlagueBearers, and Drones every Turn...just overwhelm your opponents. 3. Shooting in combat again dumb! Needs to be some kind of consicouins for this choice. Granted there are a few things that make sense...GUO has Spew of 7" so that makes sense to me. Also because we both played chaos not to much shooting so just the little I had felt like it was kinda silly to shoot in combat. Some thoughts... -Chaos Knights...holy crap good! He saved a ton of saves but they were tough to fight. Ogres Again really good against multi wound models (note to self don't fly drones into them). -Putrid Blightkin...really good also. If they can attack first they can pump out some hits! Every roll of a six to hit gets D6 hits! If they don't attack first then they aren't to bad to kill. -My GUO flubbed and didn't do much but fun, cool model to play with. Nurgle armies are a grind to get through I summoned one unit of 10 Plague Bearers and it took my bro about 2 full two rounds to get through with his spawn. -Crom's Command ability really good! Last thoughts...We were not one big blob in the middle just rolling dice we had a tone of little battles all over the board. It did seem a bit of once you get into combat it is a slug fest. Granted we didn't do any of the flee rules (not used to them yet I guess). It did seem to be wack then you wack then restart. I would overall call it an OK game...need to get in a few more against some other players to really see if this is a game to stick with. So there ya go... 10. I have to agree with Burk on this one! We had a very large warhammer community with 7th...8th came along and it shrunk up fast! We always had huge tournaments and could always find a pick up game on a game night...8th you are lucky to get 6 players at a tournament and I could never find anyone to play on game nights (maybe this was GW prices?!?! ). There will always be those of us who love the 8th rules and there were a few things I liked about it (cleaning up some things with 7th) but they also added other things to try and take away advantages of 7th. I am a huge 7th fan and wish that was the system that GW stuck with. I think that was the height of Warhammer (at least in our area) and if the success of the game is getting players to play they did that with 7th (for the most part flaws with every edition I understand). So what I didn't like about 8th... 1. No range guessing (I am not sure why people say this was a problem in 7th...I never saw it as an issue....if I was 1/4 inch short then I should have moved up 1/4 inch closer I failed charge this was part of the strategy I loved about 7th) 2. Steadfast...I see some points a unit of 5 horses don't charge in and break my 40+ strong unit of Goblins that does seem a bit odd and silly but easy fix is if you are out numbered on the turn you charge that unit has steadfast for first round...or even if your flanked or rear charged you lose it then I could deal with steadfast. I just kept seeing death stars and that is no fun! If I break bid nasty unit I win...if I cant I lose. No fun... 3. Wizards...hated that wizards can 6 dice and bam game winner...tried to make miscasts a bit more damaging but not enough. I felt like all I always saw lvl 4 wizards all the time In our community warhammer had its strongest community in 7th so if that is the basis for what was the best edition...I am going with 7th!
  11. I agree...after watching that game...wow...run across and smash then roll those 4+,3+ and remove models...shake repeat. Hopefully I roll 4+ better than my opponent. It is sad because I love the history (fluff) and models that GW comes out with but if there is no substance to this game...why play it. I also agree that the abilities of units seems cool and makes it interesting but if they can't get that game mechanics of moving and having some strategy there...I most likely will not be playing this. Maybe this sets Mantic up and KofW to take over this no dry field that GW has left...Might be walking over to them...will see.
  12. This looks like it could be fun...if AofS doesn't work for me I will have to check this out!
  13. Not a bad idea...how do we tell what is "fast", "elite", "heavy." Are these titles already listed on the WS or this is what we get to come up with? But I also think there has to be a limit on total wounds of army...or else I take 3 heavy and you take three heavy but I have 30 more models then you...is that a balanced game? Maybe it is because I can't get all my 30 models in combat with your 10 but wouldn't I just win out of attrition?
  14. I agree with you here. I can't for the life of me understand GW either. People love playing games and just want to know if I play AofS against someone I don't know down at the local hobby store my army (models I have spent hours and hours putting together and painting) have a good chance to win a game and not just get romped off the table. This is no fun...we all love a great back and forth game of throwing dice. So I can't for the life of me understand a game with "no" restrictions! I can only come to the conclusion that maybe this is what GW wants us (our local gaming group) to do...come up with our own "balanced" game so that we are not always complaining to them of what we like don't like??? With that said I think that I agree here with pretre that big bad monsters aren't so hard to take down in this new addition. All models hit on "this" and wound on "this" so if they throw attacks at big nastiest then eventually they will go down...right? I like the idea of trying to balance the game a bit some how with wounds and 0-1, 0-2,0-3 choices from characters/monsters/war-machines. Will that limit armies like Orcs & Goblins, and Skaven who have poor fighting but want huge numbers? I do also love the idea that you can now take an all "clan eshin" or "slayer" army and it is now a viable option and wouldn't want to limit those restrictions. So maybe there is not a way to do this? I love that you can now take anything and it seems like it will help you win a game (fluff wise)...how to balance this out??? Many of us are going to start play testing so when you guys do let us know what seems to be a good way of doing this...what works doesn't work (some of you have already started good work Rcnjack)!!
  15. Agree +1 on 6th. Ravening Hoardes was awesome and it was about units not being over powered it was tactics. Really loved the balance until books started to creep...
