Rule of three puts a hard limit of 12 before using the Strat to bring them in. 1200 for 12 of them plus Loyal 32 Battalion, giving me 8 CP to "summon" 680 Points worth more, and 120 Points for gear or more dudes for the Guard. So, 20. I'm not actually entirely sure how many I have. I ran 18 at OFCC two years ago, but 6 of those were borrowed. But I know I had at least a couple more Eversors beyond that, and I've picked up at least 5 more (one of each from a 3rd party Kickstarter, plus another Vindicare, because I only had a single actual one of those). I think I have another Culexus that wasn't part of that, too. So I might be able to field them all thanks to that Stratagem. I'll have to look and see how many I actually have.

13, since the summon an assassin strat is only usable once per game

    Love the Tank Commanders!

They're no joke! And the underrated Vigilus stratagem (2cp, roll a d6 for every specialist leman that successfully charged target unit this phase, on a 4+ that unit takes d3 mortals) is pretty hilarious when it works. Not the reason I take tank commanders, but it's a nice surprise 🙂

  3. Please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like a few stratagems need updated wording:

Supreme Deception says in effect "until the end of that battle round." So if you went second, it ends at the end of your turn and doesn't affect your opponent at all.

Similarly with Acrobatic, which says until the start of the next battle round. So, again, if you went second you get half the benefit from the strat's defensive boost.

  4. Looking for 85 points to include an Assassin in my ITC list...

    • Swap the Seraphim's hand meltas for hand flamers = 16 points
    • Remove the Rune Priest's jump pack = 24 points
    • Swap the Rune Priest's axe for a sword = 2 points
    • Remove the Astropath = 26 points
    • Remove the Dominions' storm bolters = 6 points
    • Swap the second Immolator's twin multi-melta for an immolation flamer = 10 points
    • Remove the Company Commander's bolt pistol = 1 point

    Total = 85 points

  5. These look awesome. So you can have a Vanguard detachment of 3-6 assassins, and/or use reserve points and CP to include as many as you want in an Imperial army without it costing a detachment at all.

Every single assassin got an upgrade. Eversor can now fight twice with a strat and put out up to 16 attacks each time. Callidus can now increase enemy strat cost up to two times per game (w/ a strat) instead of just on the first turn. Vindicare can shoot twice with a strat. And Culexus can now make people fight last w/ a strat, and was (rightly) debuffed to affect all psykers not just enemy ones. Fun times.

The best part though is that your reserve points can pay for any one of the four assassins. So just look at your opponent's list and for 1 CP get the right tool for the job. Perfect!

  6. I've played enough games with the new sisters that I felt comfortable sending in feedback on the beta codex. Here's what I wrote:

    Hi GW,

I'm a longtime Sisters player (since 4th ed) and have been having a blast with the new beta codex. I've run them as a standalone army, as well as alongside other Imperium factions like Space Wolves, Astra Militarum, Inquisition, and Deathwatch, and I've used them against a wide variety of opponents and factions. I'm writing to share my thoughts on the new codex: what I think is working well, and what could use improvement.
    1. Penitent Engines. These are much improved, and in my standalone Sisters army I run two of them. I like their 7" movement and double activation in the Fight phase. But they still fold too quickly to savvy opponents. I think at their current point cost, they would be worth taking if they had a Shield of Faith save, but without this they are not really worth it.
    2. Beacon of the Emperor's Will. This stratagem is very exciting when it works, and I think its priced fairly. Please do not decrease its CP cost.
    3. Acts of Faith. I like the new faith system, but I think the powers are a bit too weak considering how difficult they can be to activate without Dialogus & Ebon Chalice bonuses. I suggest keeping everything the same, but changing the rules for the Simulacrum Imperialis so that instead of it giving +1 to faith checks it makes the unit automatically pass faith checks. This will also indirectly increase the appeal of Celestians, which have rarely seen play under any of the Sisters codices.
    4. Inferno pistols & hand flamers. The main issue with these weapons is that they clash with the stratagems and deployment/movement options available to Seraphim. The new Burning Descent stratagem helped this somewhat, but deep-striking Seraphim still feels like a bad option. I suggest giving these weapons an additional "Combined fire" profile, allowing players to fire once per pair of pistols in exchange for 6" of additional range. This would make Seraphim more versatile, increase use of deep-strike, make it possible for them to use the Holy Trinity stratagem after deep-striking, and make up for the recent loss of their ability to double move.
    5. Retributors. After losing the ability to fire twice via the index Acts of Faith rules, Retributors no longer seem worth taking. In my experience it is a no-brainer to put a single heavy bolter in a few Battle Sisters squads instead of taking any Retributors. I suggest giving them a unique ability that makes any Wound roll of 6+ be resolved with an additional AP of -1. This would increase the appeal of all their weapon options, including grenades and standard Bolters.
    Thanks for reading!

  7. forgot to list kurov's on the other tank commander. the vigilus relic comes free w/ the specialist detachment. list has been edited.

second edit: i've been informed that the vigilus faq clarified that the relics aren't free and are just unlocked. removed kurov's and paid an extra 2cp for the SW detachment

third edit: i swapped the basilisk for a wyvern and the specialist SW relic for a power fist

fourth edit: i removed two storm bolters from the first dom squad and switched the wyvern back to a basilisk. i really need some indirect fire that's able to hurt high-T/Sv stuff and not just infantry

fifth edit: i dropped the second WGBL and therefore the SW vigilus specialist detachment, gave the warlord one a thunder hammer, added an astropath to protect the punisher leman (and get an extra deny/smite), added a company commander so that i can order my infantry squads, changed all BSS to bare-bones, swapped the seraphim hand flamers to inferno pistols, and dropped a couple of storm bolters from the first dom squad. feeling good about the list now.

  9. Just now, Ish said:

It worries me, a bit, that every successful Sisters list seems to require Celestine... Nothing wrong with having a good Special Character, mind you, but an army shouldn’t need to use one to be viable.

That's been the case forever. Difference is that now instead of a cruise missile she keeps literally everything in your army alive longer.

  10. Guys we already know that the FAQ resolved the issue. This whole discussion started with the question of whether anyone had grounds to be surprised by the FAQ decision. Nowhere prior to the FAQ is there any mention of "persistent". Using the FAQ to prove me wrong is assuming the consequent. I'm not disagreeing with the FAQ, I am saying that I was surprised by the FAQ ruling because prior to it there was room for debate.

  11. 1 minute ago, Ish said:

No, because an Aura is a defined game mechanic. Specifically it is defined as a persistent unit ability that will affect certain models within a given range of the unit with it.

This combination of Act of Faith and Stratagem is neither a unit ability nor persistent. It may behave like an Aura, but it isn’t actually an Aura.

It quacks like a duck when you squeeze it, but it’s just a rubber ducky, not a mallard. 🦆

I like how you inserted the word "persistent", which isn't written anywhere.

  12. 2 minutes ago, Ish said:

Because an aura is defined as a unit ability, this isn’t a unit ability, ergo it can’t be an aura.

It doesn’t smell like a duck, it doesn’t walk like a duck, and it doesn’t quack like a duck.

As I said, it's a unit ability that the strat turns into an aura. There's room for debate, hence the FAQ. Both sides should stop acting like their interpretation is a foregone conclusion.
