  1. I remember that army as being quite striking. Seems like rebasing the army would be no fun at all and not really add much. Personally, I would paint some new stuff with colors that match as best you can and not worry about a perfect match. No lives are at stake, after all.....
  2. Well, they aren't actual girls, but rather miniature representations of girls rendered in metal and plastic. If they were real, they would be amped as hell to get out and play as they have been confined to a foam lined steel reinforced case for many years. As it is, it's just me who is amped to play.....
  3. Other than get my head around how to play this game again and how 8th edition works (I've been out for a while, you see)... I plan to paint a unit of mounted Slaaneshi witches ( I think others call them "Warlocks") that I jjust finished making and then make 2 musicians for my dark rider units, and then If I have time, make a new dark steed mounted sorceress. Looks like a fun weekend......
  4. Let it be noted that Team Grimdark will be represented (remains to be seen how well) at the Black Sheep Brawl as I will be there with my Soulcrusher girls.
  5. I'd wager that if you asked 1,000 fantasy gamers what those models are, the overwhelming majority would ID them as the Warhammer universe daemons. That's what IP and brands are. Subtle but very important. Apple's logo is an apple. They didn't invent something new. They created a brand with tremendous value with time money and effort. As I wrote above...the highly probable outcome that these items will sell better because they have the look of GW IP is fairly damning evidence that the look and feel of these models has value. And that value was created by someone else.
  6. This guy is creating some really beautiful sculpts. I think it's too bad that he doesn't make something that is a bit more original, I.e. not a fairly blatant theft of intellectual property. I'm sure others will think differently on this subject, but i find it odd that people think its OK to steal ideas and sell them. If he (or anyone else) doesn't think that the image and look of the greater daemons don't have tremendous value in the marketplace...why doesn't he make his own daemons? He's a brilliant artist, he could make wonderful creatures. But I imagine that he thinks that they wouldn't sell as well if they aren't Nurgle, Slaanesh, etc. ....and I think he's right.
  7. Hey All: I've yet to play a game of 8th, and I've got a question or two after reading the book (and I imagine I'll have more until I actually get a chance to play a game against someone and they can educate me properly) Is it the unit with the largest number of ranks that count to determine steadfast or the total number of ranks, I.e. I have a unit with 5 ranks and my opponent is in combat with me with two units of three ranks each. who is steadfast? Also, if I declare a charge against a unit that is currently fleeing, do they get a flee move as response?
  8. I'll second that. Spend a few extra dollars on your brushes. The extra spent will be worth it many times over, even if you only include the savings from buying replacements, I.e. Discounting completely the aggravation of trying to use half dead and/or crappy brushes. I have been using the same brushes for literally years, in some cases upwards of 20 years. One of my old staples which was finally fading after about a decade, was only permanently retired after a new kitten in the house decided to chew the ferrule into a very bizarre shape. :) I'll add (just in case you don't do this already) to make sure that you never dip a brush that is dry into paint of any consistency. That will really help paint adhere to the bristles which you don't want.
  9. Hey All: I'm officially squared away on a team. Thanks for all the endorsements and see y'all in September if not sooner!
  10. In the back of my mind during my years of wandering....I imagined a Dark Elf Hero chick on a dark steed..in an attempt to put the metal horse that came with the DE BSB (a rather uninspiring figure to be honest) to some good use. So...I finally transferred my vision into metal, plastic and epoxy:
  11. Dark Elves are one of my armies and my current focus. Furthermore, I like the new witch elves (they are not as cool as the old Chris Fitzpatrick witch elves...but nothing is). That being said....I'm voting with my feet so to speak and not purchasing any. I'm not a GW basher by any stretch, in fact I'm usually reminding people that is GW doesn't make a profit....the game systems that we enjoy so much will go away. I realize that we are paying for more than plastic miniatures when we buy from GW, we are buying the whole system, the background, the imagery that they have created, etc. That being said....$6 a pop for plastic chicks seems a bit high to me....so I'm not buying.
  12. Hey all: thanks for the nice comments! That oughta fool'em! All true anecdotes; I was at the first OFCC which was great fun and in somebody's garage/shop sort of structure west of Portland a ways. I did have a great adventure in the inner sanctum of miniaturedom.....row upon row of the sacred bins of glorious metal goodness at GW HQ in Nottingham long ago. ....and Jason is still fussing 'cuz I sniped him (I'm sure I didn't know it was him) out of an eBay auction for an OOP Thrudd figure about a zillion years ago. He should play dwarfs with that memory for grudges! I'll make it up to you at the OFCC. :) Hopefully, I will see y'all at the OFCC and we can catch up.....
  13. Hey all: I've been out of the game for 4.5 years and am about to get back into things. I'm looking to join a team for the OFCC. I'm not the greatest player in the world and I haven't played an 8th edition game yet, but I have entered the Black Sheep tournament next month and plan to get my playing chops in reasonable shape over the next several months. I'm fairly sure most would say that I'm a decent enough fellow to play against and I imagine that a little due diligence on me from Ordo veterans would attest as such. Other selling points for me are the fact that if I ever made a hard army, it was by accident and that my armies always look nice at a minimum. I plan to play Dark Elves this year. Anyway, shoot me a PM if you might have a spot available and we can start a dialog about perhaps joining your team.
  14. After a brief affair with the light, I returned to the cold beauty of the Dark Elves with some shades made primarily from de-40K'd Dark Eldar Wytches:
  15. Hey All: As an exercise to find out if I could still paint figures, I painted this really cool figure from Raging Heroes for a lil' online contest. If you are not familiar with Raging Heroes, check them out...they are lil' French company that uses a lot of digital design in their process along with 3d printing for their masters. They have a new line of amazing 40k type figures, all of whom are badass girls. They also have a fantasy range that works well with Empire, Dark Elves, & Chaos.
