To all the fine folks listed above (and anyone else who is planning on joining us): post a photo of a standard from your army that is most representative (or just cool) in this topic..... -

T9A OFCC 2017
Lion of Flanders replied to TheBeninator's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
Hey All: I decided that playing in the OFCC should provide the excuse to paint something....so I plan to play orcs who will be unofficially "led" (to plunder taverns, mostly) by big ol' Grugnold the giant....here he is just underway... -
First off, I'm really pleased that Smashthedean has stepped up to put together a fun event for us to enjoy, so thank you for that. I plan to work out a list and fuss with it a bit and submit it shortly. A question/issue that I have after reading the tournament materials is: Am I reading scenario one correctly in that the objective of the game is to detonate the most suicide bombers in the enemy's territory? If so, this strikes me as really objectionable in today's world, not to mention inconsistent with the fluff of various armies (elves?) My intention is not to cause problems or make extra work for anyone, it just seemed very strange to me. What do y'all think?

T9A OFCC 2017
Lion of Flanders replied to TheBeninator's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
OK, I'm in and booked my room as well. I'll be showing up Friday night...so I'll be looking for someone to play a game with Friday as that will likely be my first game of 9th age. See y'all in July! -
T9A OFCC 2017
Lion of Flanders replied to TheBeninator's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
Hey All! Looks like a weekend that I could make! I've yet to play 9th age and I havent played at all since last OFCC and GW blowing the world up, but I like the idea of community based rules system and I'd love to play some Warhammer again. Do I need a team to attend the event....or do I just sign up? please advise.... -
9th Age OFCC
Lion of Flanders replied to smashthedean's topic in Ordo Fanaticus Club Challenge (OFCC) July 28-30, 2017
Bummer.....one of the very few weekends in July or August that I can't do it. I'd like to try 9th age as it looks well thought out and it would be nice to support the effort. My gamer/fantasy psyche was seriously injured last year by Age of Sh**mar, and I've yet to recover. I'm hoping that a combination of 9th age, Ordo events, and Raging Heroes TGG2 will allow me to renew my gamer/artistic spirit. -
9th Age Armies Released
Lion of Flanders replied to smashthedean's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
Hey so I downloaded the rules and gave it a ultra fast once over. This seems pretty cool to me so far...encouraging. If folks are playing it, I'd definately be up for a game....perhaps a tournament at Borderlands....Talapas? What does Raindog, Lord of the Rampages think, I wonder? -
...those super cool vinyl terrain mats? I'm looking for an fantasy urban one if such a thing exists.... Now that GW has abandoned my favorite game, and while the gamer world decides what to do about that....I'm running a D&D game with my kids and their friends. Major flashback fun back to the 80s and 90s.

...I'm generally pretty positive about stuff....but holy sh*t this is a dumb figure: Straight out of a video game...here are some rnf troops with massive huge OTT armor....and giant Smaug killing bows and arrows as well. Stu-freakin-pid. I shant be buying.

Now more than ever (being that there are no more GW events) play the game with whatever figures you like. That's how to impact pricing. I used to be 100% GW (except for a few super modified figs snuck in here and there ???? ) as I played in official GW events. As GW made the (dubious, I think) decision to abandon events, I now purchase whatever the heck I like (and indeed have already dropped a big pile of cash on the good folks at Raging Heroes for a sh*tload of new dark elves when they are ready)

Here are my thoughts (disclaimer: I lack play experience in recent years, so keep in mind that I might be missing something important): Characters not leaving units: independent heroes fighting against a backdrop of mass battle is what makes the game evocative for me. I think characters need to be able to leave units. If changes are needed to prevent dickless moves with über characters handling whole units, let's make those changes (such as all eligible unit members can attack a single character, or some such disadvantage to discourage doing something that is goofy)....which leads to... Did I read this right that all eligible models in a unit could attack a single character? If so, that seems excessive. Sure, all the enemy rnf are trying to pull down the badass, but this implies that the hero's unit is standing around with their thumbs you know where. I like the protection rule for wizards...perhaps a limit on the number of rnf attacks that can be directed at a character if he/she/it is in a unit of 5 or some such Fudge rule on deployment: Hallafreakinluya. Move ignoring 1" other than at end= good Not moving challenge characters: I've been doing this for years. Moving the characters is a PITA and encourages fiddly "it's allowed by the rules so I can do it" tactics. Not steadfast if disrupted: Good Is the miscast effect described the entire effect, i.e. no roll on the old table? If so, it seems reasonable and seems like the big unit killer/game winner spells will only be cast once per game which seems enough. Warmachines: war machines that blow up is fine. It makes good WM like dwarfs better then crappy ones. As for remembering the "can't shoot next turn" thing...that's easy....we have been turning the machine around for 30 years. No dangerous terrain rolls: terrain needs to mean something. At least you seem to be returning LOS effects of terrain, so that's something, but no DT rolls really make terrain of minimal importance. The imbalance of MC and MI should be addressed in other ways, like a model is eliminated on a failed DT test (turns his big fat ogre ankle and spends the rest of the battle sitting there howling about it) Standard heights for LOS: definately. The current system can basically be summarized as "everybody can hit everything if I'm will to argue long enough" There are my 2c for what they are worth. One thing for sure, GW sure has stimulated thought and conversation. It will be interesting to see what the community comes up with....

OFCC 2015 WFB Final Scores
Lion of Flanders replied to Sylvos's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Team Event 2016
Big thanks to the organizers. OFCC was really a great weekend of games. I'll also thank my Team Rampage mates for carrying me in battle scores! All my games were terrific games against good guys so I thank them as well. See y'all next year! -
Can AoS list take allies?
Lion of Flanders replied to Steel Angel's topic in Warhammer Age of Sigmar
You can take 3 steam tanks and a unit of Chaos Knights to support your vampires. -
Orcs for the OrcFCC
Lion of Flanders replied to Lion of Flanders's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
I've been making bases from basswood and sheet magnet since the 90s. I never liked the plastic bases height nor the beveled edge and sheet magnet was a good way to magnetize while making a flatter, lower COG base that fit flush with other bases when ranked up. -
Orcs for the OrcFCC
Lion of Flanders replied to Lion of Flanders's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
OK, so I'm done and the Orcs are ready to rock and roll on Friday.... I added some shields to the black orcs...last few games I had paid for shields but was a WYSIWYG sinner and the dice gods punished for it..I don't recall any armor saves being made ...and I cranked out 8 more Biguns over the weekend: -
No problem! From what I've read so far, any old clutch of models will do.

No more Orcs, Elves, and Dwarves...
Lion of Flanders replied to Ring_of_Gyges's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
He doesn't actuallt exist....he is completely fictitious. + 1 million. Technically well done as usual from GW...but easily the most unapealing figures that I've seen from GW in a long time. Maybe the most, now that I think about it. GW has released a dopey figure now and again...but to see them release what is clearly a very important "signature" new range of figures that look so artistically disappointing is really bad to me.
