  1. So Ünglük is ready to rock the OFCC on his big ol' boar: If anyone calls him an Orukk, he should get an extra attack in the next combat phase. Now I'll paint as many new biguns as I feel like painting prior to next weekend, and the orcs will be ready to rock and roll....
  2. Most definately...I played a number of lists with no magic at all and they could work.
  3. 6th was cool for me...but as stated previously, the Storm of Chaos thing was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the SOC armies, namely Cult of Slaanesh and Ulric.
  4. I'll give any person at any time in the future $100 if they ever catch me referring to an Orc as an "Orukk" or whatever the F they want to rename them. If that's what they think they need to do...they will do it I suppose. I think it's lame. A GW Orc was already different than other "orcs", only in ,more subtle ways. If the figures look cool, I'll buy them...if they look like overstuffed video game characters with ubiquitous giant shoulder armor...I won't.
  5. Well, I'll be around on Friday night and if yall need some players....I'm in.
  6. There is usually so much negativity in online discussion forums and usually I am very hesitant to be negative...but I just can't see much to like about this thing.
  7. Absolutely. Echoes my sentiment exactly about my first miniatures game...plus the flashback to the days before somebody told me to paint with water based paints when I was using enamel model paint....well said.
  8. OK I just downloaded the Warlands rules. It looks pretty cool so far ( and rather amusing at 150 pages compared to Warhammer Age Of Silliness weighing in at a hefty four pages )
  9. Anyone know how late the game hall will be available for open games on Friday night?
  10. I've read the rules and a few of the army scrolls....and I really can't imagine how this is a game. It seems completely up to the players to design forces that are even close to balanced. It's just weird. Fundamentally, it seems like a EZ game to play with my 10 year old. I think I'll try that and see what he thinks. in addition to the stuper simple mechanics, lack of balance, and no force cohesion (I'll take 4 bloodthirsters and 2 steam tanks...and be outnumbered and get to choose my victory conditions) what really bugs me is the the world is no longer interesting. Constant battles to the last warrior standing on freaky mystic battlefields is boring. Where do people live? What do they eat? Is everything in ruins? Civilizations and nation states fighting with each other or fighting to protect themselves from invaders is interesting....this AOS stuff is basically an arcade game with figures....and don't get me started on the figures thus far.
  11. This stuff all looks really terrific. I played car wars back in the 80s and generally preferred the low-tech version, as I felt at the time (and still do) that the Road Warrior was among the coolest movies ever. Is anyone going to get a game going on Friday at OFCC? I haven't played anything like this in 30 years, but I'd love to join in if anyone is looking for players.
  12. OK, so Ünglük's boar is pretty much ready to go. He's super big compared to the old metal boars that his unit will be riding, which should make him all the more heroic
  13. Well, I do have a fondness for girl elf armies, so shaven slaves might not be a bad thing at all. It reminds me of the game that got me into miniature war games in the first place when I was a teenager. It was called Magical Battalions, except that when they went to print, someone dropped the middle "a" from the name and that left "Magical Battlions" You could field any figures that you had and they all were moved individually. There were no rules for morale. Anyway, I soon moved on to other games that were a bit more than just a bunch of figures thrown together for the sake of efficacy. This new AOS thing smells a lot like MTG, I.e. compile the best list/deck that you can out of whatever you have and go for it. I'm still waiting to see....meanwhile, I've got a few figgas to paint before the OFCC....
  14. Maybe I missed this in the previous twentyish pages, but the thing that makes this less than appealing for me is the "bring whatever you want" aspect, I.e. There are no armies, just figures and units....is that correct? Can I really field a high elf mage, a bunch shaven slaves led by a steam tank and a greater daemon of Khorne?
  15. Hmmmm...it all is looking pretty disappointing to me at the moment. I suppose I'll just read the 4 pages of rules and play a few games and then decide. As Mr. Ninja wrote, there is nothing that sez you can't keep playing an older game. The problem with that is an inevitable shrinking community of players. I am quite bummed out about this at the moment. On the bright side...perhaps the 2015 OFCC will be the last hurrah for Warhammer Fantasy. I plan to have fun....
  16. You guys are awesome. I can't wait for the OFCC
  17. Who do we send lists to? (We do send lists ahead, true?)
  18. OK, I presume this is happening for both Fantasy and 40K? If so, I'd like to play. I'll have orcs this year and need a partner, it seems.
  19. When 36 Black Orcs aren't quite enough....we make two more using the plastic ones...which are very nice....
  20. OK so how does this thing work? I saw Sylvos' post that minimal tickets have been sold and thought perhaps there are others out there who thought it sounded like fun but didn't know anything about it or how to sign up, etc? So....where do I/we go to find out?
  21. That's almost enough to make me play 40K. Completely, epically, and superbly awesome work. Well done.
  22. So I've been having fun making orcs recently out of whatever I could find online and in my parts boxes.... Ünglük the Big Boss remade for 2015 (he'll get a shield eventually)...
