Chance to practice your lists
Lion of Flanders replied to Talapas's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
Excellent! I'm there for sure. -
Well, I finally received all of my bitz from various places, so I'm ready to get to work on my new orc boyz and I did some work on Ünglük, the Black Orc Big Boss Badass on Big Boar, who is being built from a standard boar boy. If y'all are interested, I have a painting and modeling PLOG on Druchii.net where I track all (I like to work at a very leisurely pace these days) of my miniature related hobby activities: http://druchii.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=72709&p=926722#p926722

Seeing that I have a very short list of stuff to do....I'm looking good I'm making a new mounted Black Orc big boss, and then goof around making a few more Biguns and black orcs to round out my units.

Hey all: I just ordered some resin heads from MaxMini.eu. First off, I ordered late Saturday and had my stuff as of today. The quality is really great. They make conversion bits such as heads, weapons, shields, etc. mostly 40k stuff but some fantasy as well. I'm really impressed. Anyway...check them out if you haven't allready.

God forbid! Im excited for 9th ed.
Lion of Flanders replied to Fixxer's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
...which is why I wrote "disappointed" and not "annoyed" or "pissed" or some such. Because if it were the case (round bases mandatory).... I certainly wouldn't do it. I have long been squarely in the "put a lot of heart and soul into your figures...and then call them finished and that's it....they are finished...no more nothin". The only post finished work that I have done on figures is to upgrade some really old bases that were finished with just flock (that's how it was done in the old days ) to match current armies done with more attention to bases. Anyway....wait and see, I suppose. -
Swedish Comp download?
Lion of Flanders replied to Lion of Flanders's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
Never mind.....got it. -
Hey all: what's the best way to download the latest version of the Swedish comp system....the links I'm finding all take me to a scribd site that makes me download their app, which I don't want to do. Where do yall get it?

Lion of Flanders replied to Fixxer's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
I'm certainly about wait and see....but suffice it to say I'm going to be really disappointed if my 17 years worth of army building and painting needs to be on round bases in order to play the game...... -
golden demons...

The event has really been on the decline for some years now..... -
Wrath of the Rose City Slayers
Lion of Flanders replied to Raindog's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
This looks like it's going t be a good event. Unfortunately, I am not able to attend. Perhaps next year. -
So I'm reading Sun Tzu for the umpteenth time and I noticed something that I hadn't before (not uncommon).....when describing the costs of raising and maintaining an army for battle, the wise master specifically mentions ......"glue and paint" ???? That dude knew his stuff.

Hmmmm...maybe I could do it. do y'all keep these things a secret intentionally? I just went to the Borderlands site to see if I could find hide or hair of this event and nothing....perhaps I have to log in to Facebook to find out? The Ordo calendar does not have the event either. The Borderlands folks always put on a nice lil' three game event, but attendance is usually dismal (I'm guessing here) because nobody knows about the events. OK so it starts at 10:30 and is 2,500 points...is that right? Lists in advance?

I have been looking forward to a battlefront game for something more Iron Age technology than the PS2 (we still have our PS2 cuz we still play the old Battlefront games) The trailer looks absolutely amazing and the Star Wars geek kid in me gets all goosebumpy....but I was really disapointed to hear that they had made the game into a first person shooter, I.e. Just like all the other FPS games out there. Hopefully the most deadly attack in the game will not be hitting an enemy with your gun, which seems more dangerous than shooting the enemy with your gun in most FPS games out there.

I liked it as well. To play this game that we do requires a lot of investment, both financial and otherwise...so when GW overtly trashes the world that they have created over 30+ years, it seems reasonable for people to have apprehensions. The author's point is a good one that, was much as we might not like waiting, it probably makes sense to wait and see before freaking out, particularly in light of the fact that GW has done a reasonably good job of changing the game over the years, with 7-8th being a noteworthy change that was generally met with satisfaction. For myself, the Old World was a very compelling place packed with cool imagery that was always a major element that drew me into the hobby. Thus, I can't help but feel a bit sad that they just "nuked it" to do something different. I think that in and of itself is a testament to how successful GW was in shaping the world and presenting it to as an evocative milieu to play games in. So...perhaps what they are up to is a glimpse of the dark future (the Old World is/was pretty dark already) with the idea that the game still occurs in other times...rather like superhero comics that are future stories that trumpet the headline "EVERYBODY DIES!" Anyway, we just have to wait and see....hopefully we won't have to wait too long and people lose interest/get tired of waiting and move away from the game.

Give it time....it's only day 5 I'll bet that all the cool stuff will become reality. I'm going to inventory everything that I will commit to painting and then upsize my original pledge accordingly. I know how you feel about getting figures that you don't like as freebies....I don't like the idea of having figures in my possession that I'm not going to paint...just feels wrong somehow. I'll find good homes for them This is my first involvement in a kickstarter...and I'm really digging it thus far.... -

We need to play at OFCC then...if you are attending. Perhaps we play doubles Friday night? 5,000 points of Empire, perhaps? -

That's why I plan to buy a whole bunch at once I have purchased a few at a time from RH and the shipping wasn't any more than other Euro area manufacturers. -

Well, thanks for that compliment! I agree that some of the poses are a bit unnatural...but that's their thing. I think there is a spectrum that folks can choose how much sexy they want. I like those Crucible and the Davidians chicks greatly (and I dont play 40k). -

I can't imagine anyone getting turned on looking at the above halberd chicks. Not everything will appeal to all. For me, the human body part "centaurs" are bit too weird for me...but generally speaking, all the stuff posted above is stylistically awesome. Conveying movement and emotion in tiny statues is what I think the art in this hobby is all about...and RH does it better than anyone else I'm seeing out there. Speaking of sex....I am looking at two sea turtles "enjoying each other's company" at this very moment. They are a lovely couple. They have no weapons or armor (to go with their "amore") or perhaps "ardor" so my interest will wane shortly, however. -
