    Pax's Bugs

Oh wow! There are some old, old models in there, including a few Citadel Miniatures resin stuff that predates Forge World! Nice!
  2. Ah, yeah, I missed that. The Battle Demi-Company does, but not the Ravenwing Strike Force. Still, is it really playable/worth it to try and run a Lions Blade Strike Force Detachment? They get Grim Resolve instead of Combat Doctrines. I think I'd rather be able to shoot overwatch at BS 2 and Stubborn the whole game instead of once per game re-rolling 1's to hit with certain units. Hmm, something to look into a bit more perhaps... If you take away the Ravenwing Strike Force and replace it with another CAD or Formation, it could easily be a generic Space Marine Gladius Strike Force instead. I must admit, I remember seeing a lot of chatter about the Gladius Strike Force, but never looked into it all that much. Seems pretty easy to pull off in 1500 points, giving you a "free" 400+ points in dedicated transports like in Brandon's army. Bleh, is this what 40K has become? Find the best Detachment, and spam the heck out of it? Kinda makes me sad. I know a lot of people don't like Hero Hammer, but I think I'd prefer running a couple 300-500 point Hero's (with the capital 'H') that clash in epic one on one combat while the rest of the army does it's own thing... kinda like what you see in AoS...
  3. Nope. Same error. Maybe repost the link?
  4. "Sorry, this page is not available. The link may be broken or the page taken down."
  5. Ultrasmurfs. Bleh. I wonder what he is supposed to be? A Master of Sigil perhaps? Or just a Legion Standard Bearer?
  6. I still stand by what I said. The guy in the above is using Green Wing and Raven Wing together in a Ducerian Style, Dual CAD. Even the commentator at the BAO said his list was sub-par, but Brandon was a good player able to overcome the challenge. He was also paired down in the final round, meaning he was playing for 3rd or 4th place, but due to a tie on the first table, he won the whole tournament. In trying to understand his list- he had two Battle Demi-Companies to make the Lion's Blade Strike Force, and then another detachment of Ravenwing Strike Force. So he had two formations that made one detachment, and then another detachment? Ah, yeah, after reading Decurian Style formations and detachments in the ITC packet about a dozen times, it finally makes sense. So basically, he got free Rhino's, Razorbacks, and Drop Pods- 410 points worth if I calculated it correctly. Everything in the Lion Blade detachment received Grim Resolve, meaning full BS in Overwatch. Then all the Ravenwing bikes get a +1 BS for shooting at the same unit another Ravenwing unit has hit. Very nice! A very complicated army to run. Would love to actually watch him play the army. Brandon was playing a 2,260 point list in a 1,850 point game, and I really wonder if that had a lot to do with his success, and if any of the other Space Marine players (all 32 of them, and the other 24 Chapter lists!) ran something similar? Does any other Codex right now give you as much free stuff as the Space Marine and Dark Angels detachments? Still, if you want Terminators, then you look at Space Wolves or Grey Knights. If you want bikes, White Scars. Tactical Squads? Well, here it's a bit tricky. Tactical Squads pretty much suck, unless you can spam a lot of them, and you can use them together coherently in a battle plan to win the game. The ones he was using didn't even have Objective Secured! Brandon had five 5-man Tactical Squads, a 5-man scout squad, two 5-man assault squads, and two 5-man Devastator Squads. The only squads not min sized were the bike squads, and he had very little wargear- I'm estimating about 100 points? 120? The more I look at his army, the more it buggers belief in how it did so well. He only had "3" Melta weapons and 3 Grav-cannons for anti-armor, he had no anti-flyer at all... I just... wow! Everything screams to me that this list should not have done well at all. My opinion, Brandon is a great player, and it was a perfect storm of opponents and the final tie at the first table that allowed him to get 1st place. :)
  7. Do you have a link on this question from that other forum? I'm kinda interested in it now. ;) GW screwed over Dark Angels with the latest codex making them more "Tri-Wing" then anything else. You could probably get away with a Green Wing army now, but all Deathwing nope, and all Ravenwing- despite it being very powerful on paper- fails as well. I was a Dark Angels player for a long time, and after this latest codex, I sold 'em all off and now just look upon DA players with a mixture of pity and remorse. There is nothing that a DA player can do that another army can't do better, and for cheaper points too. The only advantage DA have is that they can take all three wings in a single army- and during the age of the Gladius Strike Force and Dual Battle Demi-Company CAD, it's a moot point. This kind of question just reinforces the notion of chatting with your opponent before the game about an effect like this (Containers and scoring units, Sudden Death, etc.). Of course, it also means a Tournament Organizer now needs to consider it for their Tournament Package/Rules. I'm sure the ITC will soon make another arbitrary ruling, and everyone will accept it as Gospel from on High.
  8. Taking a step back from the table for a second: Paxmiles are you basically saying you can't table someone with Battlefield Debris on the table because they are counted as enemy models until you somehow control them or destroy them? Wouldn't that just give you an extra turn or two in which to score more objectives or points on the table while the enemy Battlefield Debris just sits there doing nothing? They might be sitting on an objective, but that's what Objective Secured is for, right? Buildings have special rules for claiming them (Pg. 112). Battlefield Debris do not. Gun Emplacements are a special kind of case as they have stats and can be attacked/destroyed. I'd say a Gun Emplacement can be controlled and is a scoring unit, but a Defense Line would not. With something like the Aegis Defense Line, only the Gun Emplacement would be a scoring model, as you can control it/blow it up. The rest of the line has no stats and can't be controlled. I actually haven't seen the rules for the Armored Containers, but I'd go along the lines of "If it has stats, then it can be controlled and is a scoring unit, because it can also be destroyed and is deployed as a model/unit like the rest of your army". See pg. 110 "Buildings", pg. 130 "Fortifications", and pg. 134 "Scoring Units". Otherwise, every army I field from now on is going to pay 5 points for a 6" section of Razorwire as protection against Sudden Death. The Stronghold Assault book may have more insights into this topic. I just glanced through mine to see how much Razorwire costs, and it does have expanded rules on claiming buildings, but nothing more about buildings as a scoring unit.
  9. Modeling for stability makes sense, but it's a slippery slope. For example, when you see a close combat monster on a different sized base from the rest of the unit that make me go "Umm...." because it's obvious you're trying to get him into close combat and allow more of your unit to be able to get within 2" of him- that's modeling for advantage. Or the front three guys in a unit have Storm Shields and on 40mm bases, but the rest of the unit is on 25mm bases... well, it's easier to claim "closest model" for saves on a larger base because we measure everything from base to base. Mounting a standard bearer on a bigger sized base could also be considered modeling for advantage- when you measure the effects of the standard, you measure from the base. Thus, the area the standard bearer affects will be larger then one on a smaller base. The reason you gave for the standard bearer being on a bigger base makes sense, but realize that the unintentional consequence is that the area it affects is larger. That is what modeling for advantage is about. Ever seen a Nemesis Dreadnought modeled laying down? Looked cool, like he was sliding into second base or something, but it allowed the player to claim cover vs. shooting on just about any shot that went over anything on the table a 1/2" or taller (like some rubble or a low hedge) due to the 25% obscured rule. If the model had been constructed standing on it's base, it would never be able to claim that kind of cover save. So now do you argue intent or Rule of Cool? Rule of Cool says the model was painted well and a great conversion, so let him play with it. But understand it's going to have a 5++ cover save for most of the game. Intent? Was the player actually posing the model in such a way to get a constant cover save, or is it just a happy coincidence that the model also gets a 5++ cover save vs. just about everything on the table? This applies to a kneeling Wraithknight as well. Its facing is more than halved in size due to those nice, long legs, and thus, would get cover way more easily then a standing Wraithknight. Intent, or Rule of Cool? As Pretre says, consistency is important, and it would be better if your entire unit of Pink Horrors were on the same sized bases rather then just the one that has an area effect ability measured from its base- which just happens to be larger then the rest of the bases in the unit.
  10. Larger bases make it easier to hit with blast weapons, but you get fewer models "within" certain effects (disembarkation, blast weapons, etc.). It's also easier to get into close combat, but you get fewer models into close combat (and more models with smaller bases can engage you). Deepstriking larger base models increase the chances of deepstrike mishap, and it makes it easier to claim cover- see the Wraithknight Toe-in (yes, I know the 25% rule, but it's still easy to claim that cover bonus on large based models). My only issue would be that all the models of that unit type be on the same size bases. I.e.; you have 3 units of Space Marine Tactical Squads, a Terminator unit, and Centurions. If only two of the Space Marine Tactical Squads are on 32mm bases and the other is on 25mm, I might say something, but not a big deal unless it's obvious the 25mm bases are modeled for advantage. If you had a Tactical Squad of 5 models on 32mm and 5 others on 25mm, that would be no good in my book. All the models in a single unit should be on the same size base, and all same units should be on the same size base- though I played when Terminators went from 25mm bases to 40mm bases and understand older armies may be mixed and I'd never expect my opponent to rebase an old army. There would be no excuse for a new army though.
  11. I see a turret, pintle mounted weapon, and probably open topped vehicle. How are those terrible arcs of fire? Do people actually use true line of sight from weapon barrels or something around here? LOL
  12. I bet £60 or £65. Consider a $1.35 to £1 conversion and it will be $81-$88 + taxes and shipping. So something along the lines of about $110? I am amazed and thankful that he does not have a beard, is not a red head, and does not have a beer gut. This makes me very pleased.
  13. A friendly poster at Dakka Dakka has made downloadable warscroll cards for Age of Sigmar. You can find them HERE. The idea being you can print them out and place them in card sleeves ala Warmachine. He has a lot of warscrolls already formatted, but if you don't see a warscroll, send him an e-mail and he'll make it for you.
  14. The Generals Book has you pay for summoning warscrolls out of the total points for the match. There has to be some limit or restriction in summoning otherwise you run into a situation in a regular game (a game not using the General's Handbook) where your opponent can double the size of his army very quickly. The reason for this is because many Death armies and Chaos (Deamon) armies can literally summon entire units every Hero Phase. A Vampire Counts army where every Hero can summon a variety of warscrolls, and each unit (Skeletons, Zombies, Ghouls, Wolves, Bats) can even summon more models for their warscroll... Basically, the Undead player spends the first 1-2 turns of the game summoning and doubling the size of his army. And they continue summoning every Hero Phase until the end of the game.
  15. If AoS is going to become that competitive and full of spam units like 7th-8th ed Fantasy, than I'm out. Cherry Picking the best units from several different armies to make a WAAC list for a Grand Alliance seems like no fun at all to me.
  16. Can Warscroll Battalions be in the 500 point sideboard? The way the sideboard is phrased makes it sound like you can only use one Warscroll in the 500 points. I do not think you should be able to use those 500 sideboard points towards summoning warscrolls. It effectively means the player would have 2000 points sitting on the table, with another 500 points waiting to come in when summoned. You could have a 2500 vs. 2000 point game on the table, and that seems a bit unfair. Unless what you mean is a warscroll is in the sideboard that can summon models has to use those sideboard points for paying for the summoning warscrolls? Say a Wizard that costs 100 points can summon warscroll X, and so the player uses 400 sideboard points to pay for the summoned warscroll? That would mean the player could effectively "swap out" 100 points of his 2000 point list, and be able to summon another 400 points. Again, that could lead to a 2400 vs. 2000 point match, and, well, ugh. I'd say all warscrolls that are summoned should be in a separate point pile payed for by the base 2000 points. If the sideboarded warscroll can summon units, then those units should have to come from those paid for already in the 2000 base points. *edited to add summoning sidebaord units.
  17. Guys, work kept me long and I won't be making it out tonight. Sorry. :(
  18. Looks good! I'd love to give it a try.
  19. Went great! Had 10? 11 people show up? From memory, the lists were Dwarfs, 2x Iron Jaws, 5x Chaos (3 Nurgle, 2 combined), Stormcast Eternals, and Fryedwarfs. The narrative portion could have been a lot better? Or I should say, the intro was awesome and the wrap up was great, I just wish there was something linking the three games together a bit better. Krum the Barbarian and his band of Ironjaws went 1-2, but all the games were really close. I played a Nurgle Chaos army first game, lost as I just couldn't seem to kill the last couple models in units for a minor victory, second game was a Chaos army with mostly Nurgle, some Tzentch, Cultists, Nurgle Drones (cool!), and Chaos Knights. Lost that one because my opponent was able to place more models within 6" of the objective then me. A miscalculation on my part, but I did decimate his army pretty good and if we had played all five turns instead of 4, I'm pretty sure I could have pulled it out. :) Last game was against some insane Dwarfs with all kinds of bonuses: Immune to Battleshock, reroll ones to hit, reroll ones to wound, reroll saves, ward saves, and a bad ass Dwarf Lord that was hitting on 2+ wounding on 3+ and causing mortal wounds and... just insane and a blast to play! I won that game because on the final turn, his Dwarf Lord blew a 3" charge into Krum, who was able to then charge him and smash 'em good! LOL I had a great time and will be back again! This time, with a fully painted army.
  20. He be rollin' in his pimped out hover limo with his homey's and hoe's while the gangsta playah's be hatin'.
  21. I'm planning on making it, not sure what I'm bringing yet. That Pandemic: Cthullu game looks interesting...
  22. Hey! Round three: FIGHT! The Space Wolves will unleash their final, apocalyptic weapon: The Stormwolf Murder Tank! Basically a fast attack Land Raider that causes fear with a D-weapon called "Frost Murder Cannon"! In addition to being a D-weapon, it's also a Helfrost weapon! Once per game, it can turn on the Go Faster Juice and move flat out and still make snap shots! During the movement phase, any model (friend or foe!) it moves within 3" of the Stormwolf Murder Tank can make a special attack with it's Fang Tow Chain: If it hits, the model gets dragged along with the Stormwolf Murder Tank. Place the model within 3" of the Stormwolf Murder Tank at the end of the Stormwolf Murder Tank's movement. The Stormwolf Murder Tank imposes a -2 penalty to the morale check on Tank Shock due to its fierce visage and imposing demeanor on the battlefield. During close combat, any unit that assaults the Stormwolf Murder Tank and successfully hit the Stormwolf Murder Tank, rolls a d6. On a 4+, the unit take a strength 4 AP - hit from the churning, spiked wheels of the Stormwolf Murder Tank. "A fierce tank seen but rarely outside of the Fang in the 41 Millennium, the Stormwolf Murder Tank is an ancient relic dating back to the Imperial Crusade when packs of these vicious tanks would roam the battlefield bringing down the foe one model at a time. Now, during the Space Wolves most desperate hour, they unlock the garage doors for the pack of these hungry predators to once again roam the battlefield of Fenris..."
  23. So GW will give us a fringe army that existed only in Necromunda and a list in the old Citidel Magazine, but not Sisters of Battle? Thumbs up GW. What's next? Squats? I rank this right up there with Militarum Tempestus for a codex that came out of nowhere and that only a few people wanted. What is this codex going to be? It's going to be Imperial Guard (or Astra Militarum if you prefer) with Genestealers. Bleh! I can't wait to see a Leman Russ tank with a Genestealer sitting in the turret. Bonus Kudo's to the players that convert all their Chimera's into Armored Hover Limousines.
  24. Had a great couple of games! First battle was a Take and Hold against the Wood Elves. Krum showed them who Da Megaboss was, and really got up close and personal. It was a slaughter for the Ironjawz, and many Wood Elf Teef were looted. But they are very small, and not worth much. Bob the Shaman manged to summon the Foot of Gork (casting value 10, but Bob was in an Arcane Ruin, and he had 10 models nearby so the casting roll was at +2. I rolled a 9). The Wood Elves failed to disbind my spell, and the Foot of Gork stomped no less then 4 times doing a ton of Mortal Wounds. Suddenly, all of Krum's Boyz stopped in wonder at the awesome power Bob showed in that Hero Phase, and even Krum paused for a second before grunting and splitting open a few more Wood Elf heads! Game two: Blood and Glory. This time, the Wood Elves were more sneaky and cunnin'. Using their fast movement and ranged weapons better, they managed to make Krum look like one of them there porcupines (I mean, really, who fails four 3+ saves in one round of shooting? This guy!). There was some very humorous failed charges in this game, and this time, Thomatron didn't rush to engage the Ironjawz. Best combat of the game for the Ironjawz: My last Brute armed with a Gore Choppa charges six Glade Guard. I think they were Glade Guard? LOL We laughed as the models all had daggers/blades in one hand, and bows in the other, so they apparently shoot daggers and blades with their bows. That unit had pin cushioned Krum, devastated my Brutes, and was well on it's way to winning the game by sitting on an objective until my Brute finally managed to pull off a charge. This game went all five turns, and came down to Bob, the Ironjawz Shaman charging a Wood Elf Hero and whiffing in close combat. All he had to do was survive to make the game a tie... and he fell to the mighty blows of the Wood Elf Hero. Best combo in that game: Wood Elf Phoenix Guard with a 4+ reroll save and a 4++ ward save, and on a save of a six, the enemy takes a mortal wound! Spell called Briar Thorn Armor or something. That was the Bee's Knees! I took a lot of wounds from that spell because my guys are melee monsters! So I went 1-1 in practice, but it gave me a good sense of how my army plays. The Gore Grunta Cav are fast, and if they charge more then 8", hit HARD. Otherwise, they are a great unit that is tough to kill (5 wounds each, and a 4+ save). The Megaboss Krum kills a lot in close combat, but might have problems against big critters... Brutes and Ardboyz are slow, but have a ton of melee attacks and when given Mystic Shield... 3+ which is awesome! The Shaman was no joke, and getting off a Foot of Gork spell will do bad things to your opponent. Of course, rolling doubles for his casting resulted in more than a few extra wounds on my army as Bob's Wild Powah went... wild. In Sum: Ironjawz are slow, but once in close combat, I can't think of any unit I've seen in the game yet that can match them for attacks and wounds. Shooting is their greatest weakness, and Thomatron really took advantage of that in the second game. All the Ironjaws have at least 2 wounds and a 4+ save with a ton of attacks. The Ironjawz are pretty much the exact army I wanted to play in AoS and I'm happy I picked them up!
  25. Sure! We could use any of the pitched battle scenario's out of the General's Handbook.
