  1. HQ Primaris Captain in Gravis Armor Primaris Lt. w/ powersword and BP Troops 20 Intercessors 5 Scouts w/ Sniper Rifles Got a color scheme (Blue! Ultramarines!), all are primed, some base coating. More models waiting in the wings including Aggressors, Interceptors, Hellblasters, Redemptor, Repulsor, and the new Marnius Calgar (such a cool looking model! Can't wait to paint him and his Victrix Guard).
  2. In writing the fluff piece for my detachment of Ultramarines, I couldn't find any fluff about where we are fighting. Planet? Space Hulk? Somewhere in the warp? What are we fighting about? Territory? Some rare, lost forbidden tech? The future? Just because it looked like a good fight? Found it kinda hard to write fluff with no background material. I mean, even the name is kinda... meh? If that's the intention, just a framework to play a bunch of games over the next several weeks, then OK. Just realize for the sportsmanship part about writing fluff for the army it will be difficult and limited to just a battle description, with little to no character development and very much episodic writing with nothing to connect each game to another one.
  3. 39.11.8.23.0637 Planet: Imperial Designation H34-32X Northern Continent, coordinates D27 x K87 x A2 "Lieutenant! On me," the gruff voice spoke from dented Gravis Armor. The Ultramarine rank of Captain was all put blasted away from the crash, his cloak torn and shredded. An Ultramarine Lieutenant stood up where he was assisting a battle brother with a dead body. His Mark X armor was immaculate. The Lucky One. All the other Ultramarines sustained some kind of injury or damaged equipment. Not the Lucky One. The Emperor must have smiled on him today. Well, thought the Captain, hopefully the Emperor continues to smile on us all after today. The burning wreckage of a Stormbird cast cast flickering light across the clearing. Tall trees and churned up earth lent an earthy smell to the clearing. The sun would be up soon, and then the smoke from the wreckage would be seen. They would have to be gone before then. "Captain. Battle Brother Antilus didn't make it." "What do we have left?" "14 Battle Brothers, small arms, frag and krak grenades. Ammo. Enough for a day, maybe day and a half without resupply." The Lieutenant sounded like he was reciting a shopping list, not in the least concerned about just crashing on a planet under siege. The Captain expected no less. The psycho-induction training they all received erased all pain, all despair. It was all replaced with the unshakable faith in the God Emperor of the Imperium, and their faith in each battle brother of the Ultramarines, the finest Adeptus Astartes Chapter of His Will. "Very well. There is nothing on the command channel from the vox. We must be way off our designated LZ. Based on the anti air we encountered, the rest of the task force is out of action. Finish stripping the Stormbird as much as possible, then destroy it. We must be away from here before dawn." A highburst squeal suddenly came over the vox. Instantly, all the Ultramarines were in a combat crouch, weapons ready. They formed a loose semi-circle around the Captain and Lieutenant. All of them had weapons pointed at the surrounding trees. "The sun sets on the Throne," came over the vox. The Captain calmly stepped forward. "The sun never sets so long as He sits on the throne," he spoke out towards the trees. The other Ultramarines relaxed, still weary, but power armored fingers moved away from triggers. Five Ultramarines, shrouded in Camo Cloaks emerged from the trees. They were lightly armored, but each carried a Mars Pattern Heavy Sniper Rifle. The leader of the scouts stepped forward, saluting the Captain. The Captain returned the salute. "Sergeant! You are a sight for sore eyes." "Hail Captain! You are a long way from your LZ. We're here to get you back to where you belong." "Very well Sergeant. We are scavenging the Stormbird and harvesting from the dead. We will be ready to move out in eight minutes. Lieutenant, form up the remaining brothers into two squads, designated Alpha and Bravo. I'll take Alpha, you Bravo. Brothers! Vox channel Beta Five Five. The Scouts are now designated Gamma Squad. Force Recon Deployment. Eight minutes. The Emperor has blessed us with this opportunity. We will meet up with our remaining forces, and we will carry out the mission. For the Emperor!" "For the Emperor!"
  4. I'll be there, but traffic across the bridge at 5:00pm... we'll see how long it takes. 500 points Ultramarines!
  5. What ticket should we be purchasing for this? Friday Hlaf Day tickets or Friday All Day tickets?
  6. Rhuntar- thanks for the game! Looking forward to another one!
  7. I'm looking for my first game of 8th edition 40K if anyone is available. I'll be there around four with my very poorly painted Blood Angels.
  8. Hey Threejacks! I live up near Mythic Realms (like 1 block away, actually). I just picked up some Kharadrons ("Arrrhg! I smell Aeather Gold! Oh wait, that's just me..."). I also have some Skaven, Sig-Mahrines, and Ironjawz. If you want to get a game in, I'm available most evenings after 5pm.
  9. I might be able to make it! Depends on homework over the weekend. Been a while since Krom's Ironjaws have seen the light of day...
  10. I'm surprised they didn't say Battle Brew for Destruction is once per game or somehow limiting it. Not too much else in here that is huge. The Slyvaneth Wood is a bit "meh". Otherwise, meh. :)
  11. Lot's of interesting and preconceived notions of how 30K plays. 30K is designed around 3,000 points. The Rose City Heresy Group plays around 2,500-3,000 points. There are no "Terminator Death Stars" because there are a lot of 5" and 7" D-pie plates thrown around. Just about everything that can take Armored Ceramite, does, just to prevent that Legion Tactical Support Squad with 10 Melta's from killing it. Also, Terminators can't deepstrike, unless you have certain Rites of War (think warlord traits, but much, much more powerful), or certain special Terminator Squads. There are not a lot of Storm Shields because most Terminators are in Cataphract Terminator Armor with 2+/4++, and the some of the special squads have 2 wounds, making those Terminator squads viable. What I have seen is a unit of Cataphracti Terminators with Plasma Blasters. If you can't deal with that... Individual squads can, and do purchase Drop Pods as dedicated troop transports. There is also a Fast Attack Drop Pod called the Anvilius Drop Pod that can carry 10 models or one Dreadnought, and it has a nifty heat blast rule, plus it's a flyer with hover. There is also the Heavy Support Kharybdis Assault Claw, which is borderline OP. It's basically an Anvilius dialed up to a 10. You don't see a lot of Drop Pod armies in 30K because there are far too many units with Sky Fire and/or Intercept. One of the cheapest, and one that's just about in every army, is a Mortus Pattern Contemptor Dreadnought with two Kheres Pattern Assault Cannons- S6 Rending, 12 shots, twin linked, BS5. For 180 points. For a Lord of War choice in 30K, this is probably one of the weakest choices you could take. The standard Force Organization choices in 30K limit you to one Lord of War choice, and it can only cost up to 25% of your army points. You could do a Leviathans of War, and get multiple Lords of War, but the drawbacks...! Especially if your opponent doesn't field a Lord of War are significant. Anyways, 30K is NOT 40K with Forge World models. It has it's own dynamic and flow, and this guy... is pretty meh.
  12. There is nothing this guy can do in 30K that some other unit can't do as well or better. Rule of Cool says this guy should get played. The difference of $243 makes it a tough sell, even though it's a Forge World model. A Warhound Titan costs just a little bit more (money and points wise), and I think it would be a bit better on the table. It's also a tough sell as a Lord of War choice. You can get almost any of the Primarchs for how much this guy costs (point wise). I think I could squeeze out five extra points for Horus himself. And that will only set me back about $75 to $400. This guy will get fielded because Rule of Cool > All in 30K, but won't be a "must take" or seen in every list.
  13. Still unable to get Canoness Veridyan. Got a reply back from GW Customer Service last week that basically said "Thank you for playing our games, sorry you were unable to purchase Canoness Veridyan. Try again in the future!" And she is out of stock AGAIN. LOL guess I won't be getting one then. And eBay has her listed for about $50 (Buy It Now $150?!?! Yeah, right). It's not so much that I want her to play with, but add to my collection. I have the 2nd Edition Codex with this artwork on it, I have the White Dwarf that premiered the Sisters of Battle, and I still have a few of my SoB models (sold the army when they got the White Dwarf treatment). And this "codex"? Bleh. LOL
  14. Acastus Knight Porphyrion: £320 ~ US$400 and about 500 points, with experimental Forge World Rules Imperial Knight Crusader: US$157 and 425 points + options The AKP has Night Fighting and can reroll 1's on the armor penetration table, so 17% of the time? Otherwise, similar rules, different Armor, which could be an issue, really, anything that can pop 12+ can usually pop 14 no problem. Still have to deal with the stupid Ion Shield. I wonder which one will get more play time?
  15. I thought Canoness Veridyan would be a bit better then that, considering that they yanked one of the best special characters out of the codex from the game (Saint Celestine). She has the same statline as a SoB Canoness, same wargear, same special rules, same Act of Faith, but none of the options a Canoness can take. I'm not sure a Power Sword and Clinical Precision is worth 20 points. A Power Sword is +15 points, so you are paying +5 points for Clinical Precision. Am I missing something here, or is she about one of the most bland special characters in the game? OMG, why does GW think Precision Shots and Strikes is such a great rule? It's basically useless and unworkable in a regular game. PShots requires Line of Sight and range to the model you are trying to hit, and characters can still use Look Out, Sir!. In melee, PStrikes requires the models be engaged- and you need to really read the rules on what "engaged" means to understand this rule is useless. And just like PShots, you can still Look Out, Sir! And let's not forget that it only triggers on a 6 to hit. If an entire unit has it... then you'll need to make your to hit rolls one at a time, for each model in the unit, checking to see if you have LoS and range for PShots, and checking to see if the model you want to PStrike is engaged with your model. One of the worst rules in 40K.
  16. I would be very interested in some Blood Bowl, though I probably won't make it until 6:00pm depending on traffic.
  17. Then why do you think this suddenly came out? Why would GW do this if we are just a couple months away from a new Sisters of Battle Codex, with new models? Two possibilities come to mind: 1). Classic GW money grab. Make SoB players buy this "new" codex, maybe some more new models, and then in a few months, make them do it all again. 2). There is no new Sisters of Battle codex coming out, and GW is trying to maintain a good front, so they release a new resin model and print a new SoB Codex.
  18. It's a stupid good deal if you want to play High Elves or Skaven. As neither of those armies have an army book, they are pretty generic in their warscrolls. Skaven got lumped into the Chaos book, with Clan Pestilence getting an actual army book (and the best units/army fluff, etc. for Skaven ). High Elves are scattered throughout the Order Allegiance books, with some warscrolls in Order, some in a couple other books. There might be a couple Warscroll updates, namely for the High Elf leader and the Skaven Warlord, but everything else? Probably not.
  19. I wonder if these will replace the "Get Started!" boxes, and be at a similar price point? Gazing into my Crystal Ball and seeing the Sigmafication of 40K, with the return of the Emperor, I could totally see a unique Warscroll included with this box set: "The finest warriors of the Imperium, a Space Marine Tactical Squad includes 5 models and are armed with Bolters, Bolt Pistols, Close Combat weapons or Chainswords, as well as grenades. The Sergeant may be armed with a Bolt Pistol or Plasma Pistol, Power Weapon or Power Fist, and grenades. Up to 10 models including the Sergeant may form a full Tactical Squad. If the unit has 10 models, it may take a Rhino Armored Carrier (or Drop Pod) for free."
  20. It's a bad sign when GW reprints the entire codex for the first time in paper form right before an edition change, and then hypes the old miniatures. Does GW have piles and piles of Sisters of Battle laying around that this sale makes sense? No. Many of these models have been out of production for a long time. Now they are suddenly made available? They spent time, materials, and resources to bring these models back from the abyss. Why do that right before releasing a new Codex? Why do that if you have plastic models about to come online? It makes no sense, and goes against what GW has been doing lately. Surely, GW knows that if they release a new Sisters of Battle Codex in Jan/Feb of 2017 that changes all the models, they will face player backlash, from the people that jumped into this sale. I would have said this is exactly what GW would have done last year under Kirby, but with all the changes going on? The New management? Things have been turning around at GW, and this feels like a dramatic change back to the Old GW.
  21. Age of Sigmar has four broad factions called Allegiances: Chaos, Death, Destruction, and Order. Taking an army with the same Allegiance grants certain bonuses. Under each Allegiance are the various races- Chaos is all the Daemon armies and Skaven, Death is Vampires, Destruction is Orks, Order is Elves (both High and Dark), Empire... taking only models for a particular race pretty much allows you to take anything of that race. Within each race are sub-factions, like Khorne, Clan Eshin for Skaven, Ironjawz, etc. etc. Taking an entire army of a sub-faction gives bonuses to your army. Warscrolls are the description of each unit, and each unit has key words, like Chaos, Daemon, Khorne, Leader, Monster, Beast, etc. etc. Each time your whole army gets to a more specific level, you get more bonuses. I expect something similar. Like say, Imperial as an Allegiance, and under the Imperial would be Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Inquisitors, etc. etc. At that level, you could take anything from any warscroll that had the word Imperial on it. This would probably grant you some kind of bonus, similar to what the Warlord Traits are now. From there, you could take Space Marines, and again, take any warscroll marked Space Marine, and probably get something like "And They Shall Know No Fear". Finally, you could take a specific chapter, like Blood Angels. And when your entire army has the Blood Angel key word in it, you get Feel No Pain or Crusader for the entire army. Note that you would also get the ATSKNF from being Space Marines and the Warlord trait from being Imperial Allegiance. Certain units, like say Sanguinary Guard, may have certain bonuses that may only apply if the entire army has the Blood Angel key word. Otherwise, they are jump infantry with slightly better stats. The only Force Organization will be "one HQ and two Troops", but only a few warscrolls will actually be troops, but if you take all Ultramarines of the 1st Company, then Terminators will unlock as troops. In this way, GW can give you free reign to play whatever (Unbound), or they can restrict the formations to make them far less then what they are now. A tournament could restrict a player to at least the third level (imperial, Space Marine, and a Chapter).
  22. The thing is, when I added her to my cart, she was in stock. I looked at a couple other pages, then went to check out. I selected in store pick up, then entered in my CC info and address. When I reviewed my order, the address was wrong, and I had to go back and manually enter in my address again. Hit submit, and at the top of the page, I get "Order.Invalid.Stock" and "Sorry, that item is out of stock". WTF! The item was in my cart, and it was in stock when I added it to my shopping cart. I fired off an e-mail to GW Customer Service with screen shots and my cart order reference number. There is no way that the software inventory system that GW uses doesn't actually reserve the item you want in your shopping cart until after you make the purchase. That actually makes zero sense at all. I can see it dumping your items if you close the connection with the GW Sales Server, or after a certain amount of time on idle. But this seems like a glitch or something. I have my doubts that this will simply be restocked next week.
  23. OK, the webstore updated at 10:02, and by 10:07 when I attempted to complete my transaction (had the Cannoness in my cart and everything), I hit the submit button, and got "Sorry, that item is out of stock". [big bad swear word] you, GW. [big bad swear word] you.
  24. UK Webstore has been updated and the new Cannoness is already out of stock. US Webstore still hasn't been updated with the new pre-releases as of 10:00am.
  25. Mmm... I don't know about "transitional material" considering they invested something like £15 million into the equipment, and it used the same molds as the metal models, but not the plastic. The advantage of Failcast or Finecrap was that they could reuse the molds they already had for metal miniatures, and save a stupid amount of money in materials cost due to the sky rocketing cost of tin, the prime component of white metal. The white metal models GW wanted to replace were low volume models that were projected to actually cost more for GW to make and ship then they could sell them for, and GW in a great act of benevolence, actually did not want to raise the price on say, Sammael, Master of the Ravenwing to £70+. Instead, they raised the prices on the Failcast models to cover the cost of investment into Failcast. Tin went from $2.50/pound to over $14/pound at it's peak in around 2010, and has leveled out to around $9.70/pound. The materials cost of Failcast is something on the order of $0.20/pound. GW's cost of materials dropped by a large margin in 2009-2010 according to their financials. It is surprising that GW is still producing models in Finecrap, but again, it's all "legacy" models using older metal sculpts and molds. New kits have all been in plastic, meaning GW is eating the cost of cutting out metal molds for low volume models, which explains why we are paying $60 for three Exalted Sorcerers. I guess GW can't completely [big bad swear word] can Failcast, or a lot of models will be cut out of the line, and there are no replacements for them. And that leads to the big law suit they tried to pursue against Chapter House Studios. One of the results of that lawsuit is that GW couldn't sue a company for making a model they did not have in production. Hence the reason why any new army is released all at once now. What do I expect in the future? It's not hard. Just look at Age of Sigmar and the vast amount of models that went "out of production" (hint: they were all metal/Failcast). They have almost completely eliminated Finecrap from the Fantasy line. It's still there, but models keep going "Sold Out" and not being replaced (such as the Orc Warboss on Wyvern). Has anyone received any Made to Order models yet? I'd be interested in what material they are making those in. I think the last "new" sculpt I saw in Failcrap was some of the Necrons. Everything else has been "legacy"- as in, it already had a metal sculpt. Ultimately, Finecrap failed because it was a hard material to work with- both from an industrial standpoint and final product. It was too soft, had far too many bubbles, forced GW to release "Liquid Green Stuff", a set of fine grit files and emery boards, and eat the replacement costs of every returned model, which was apparently a lot. I have no hard and fast numbers on it, but supposedly they were filling a dumpster a day with returned and defective product. It also required very specialized equipment- it's two different kinds of materials in bead form that are mixed, then heated up and poured into a mold. The liquid form of Failcast is HIGHLY combustible and given one of the highest explosive hazards that the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration could give. I have the Material Safety Datasheet of Finecrap on my computer somewhere. For a while, the GW factory in the US used Finecrap, and under Federal Health and Safety regulations, you can make a formal request for the Material Safety Data Sheet of any material used in manufacturing in the US. So I did. I would NOT want to work around Failcrap in it's liquid form. No thank you. As a side note, the GW factory in the US no longer produces anything in Failcrap.
