  1. I own both Battlelore and Memoir 44 and are a lot of fun for me and my kids. Battlore is going out of print so there is a lot of good deals to be found for the base game. Some of the extra armies have gotten expensive though, so adding more stuff might be a pain. Battlelore has a cool bluffing element during game set up were you can bluff some with unit placement, but it takes longer to get the game going. There is a little more going on than Memoir since units have special powers and magic that can be activated. The only real hassle with Battlelore is like most fantasy flight games there isn't enough dice in the base set, not a huge deal but its a hassle to have to re roll dice. Adding more dice makes the game run a lot better. Memoir 44 has faster set up and play and offers a similar game. One nice thing about it is that there is a ton of content for it. A good variety of scenarios and theater/unit boxes add a little complexity and keep the game fresh. The eastern front and japanese boxes are personal favorites. Both are fun for a lighter hand management/war game type game. Battlelore is really cheap right now, but adding more content might be difficult. If you find the army boxes cheap they are worth picking up. As far as strategy goes there is more going on than at first glance. If you think of the card driven actions as more of a logistics/hand management problem it makes some of the abstracion easier to deal with. I actually find the Napoleonics version finds a nice balance between historical and light war game; the at times frustrating command and control issues seeming to fit the time period well.

As always thanks for all the good information. I've been enjoying learning the game and I appreciate the feedback and help. Infinity is daunting to learn, but I like that it isn't the kind of game that is "solved" with the current meta army list. I've always liked games that I could tinker with army lists and adjust to forces to missions to suit my play style. Nomads have been a fun faction to learn the game with since they have so many tools to accomplish missions objectives and have a variety of units. Without trying too hard I have four factions though because I'm a sucker for cool models. For Nomads I've been playing mostly Corregidor units. I just picked up the Zonds Remote box because I really like the variety of the REMs and having an 8 point useful unit option would be nice. It seems that I can always find a place for REMs in any Nomad list. For missions that are pushing buttons, grabbing data, etc I think I have it covered. For missions that are going to require combat and out lasting an opponent I have a question. When I think of more combat focused missions I picked up several Mobile Brigada troops with the idea of using them in a fire team with Alguacil or just a pain train. When I actually tinker around with units lists I keep thinking I would be better off with a force of Wildcats. Three Mobile Brigada or four Wildcats with some heavy weapons and maybe a Reaktion or Tsyklon REM for the same cost. Or a full five man team with a cheap remote. The main complaint is that Wildcats are slow, but it seems that all of the mission objectives have been on the midline of a four foot table, and having a couple of extra orders always seems more useful. Has anyone built a list with Wildcats or have an opinion on them? When I browse forums the general opinions range from a waste of points to they are okay in a Corregidor force but generally not used much. I read an interesting post from a top player in the UK talking about army lists after a tournament and he gave a more nuanced answer. He had just won a large tournament and was talking about playing Nomads again for the next big event because of all the headaches and fun he had playing against them. He mentioned Wildcats as being the unexciting, solid unit that consistently wins games on objectives. His hardest game came from forgetting how hard it was to push Corregidor Wildcats from an objective. So like most things on the internet 95% random people on the forums saying something is terrible and then a few comments saying that the other people need to play better.
  3. I finally received my Zond Remotes box for my Nomads today. The bad news is that it's missing the small parts bag. I already sent a request to Corvus Belli to see about a replacement, has anyone dealt with the company before for parts? If so, how long was the turn around time? I'm debating if I just want to return to the seller but its kind of hassle and it was the last box from them (so I can't just have them send out another box while I return this one).
  4. Thanks again for another fun evening of gaming.
  5. Ok found my answers on infinitywiki, so my assumption appears correct that template weapons are 3D, so a teardrop template is a cone and a circular template is a sphere. I wish the rulebook was just a little more clear at times. I just have to get use to checking game errata and resources if something doesn’t seem clear.
  6. Another question that came up the other night about template weapons. It came up when I threw a grenade in speculative fire that hit an area that had valid targets on different heights of scenery. The question that was kind of confusing was is the circular template spherical in its area of affect? When I looked it up later in the rulebook at home the illustrations added other questions. ok so this is the first example with a direct template at targets on multiple levels. Okay so this makes it seem like the attack is a cone shape, the next example is from above this one is kind of confusing is the first nomad unit that it misses in a building or on top of it? Is this template representing a cone area of effect or is it a flat plane that can be rotated because thats just how the game works? Just asking because I'm making an assumption of the level of abstraction for the game. Some of the other examples show the direct and impact templates being placed from various places on the model silhouette, which makes sense since any area can be targeted so can shoot from any area of the model area. there isn't an illustration of the circular template and how it interacts with scenery and different levels. Intuitively it seems like I could hit the front edge of the building and place the template in such a way to hit both target silhouettes. How is this resolved in the game? on a flat surface it works and I can follow the process, when terrain is added with varying heights I don't want to assume that I understand how the game resolves this. Thanks again

I have a quick question. When I'm playing a Corregidor only force a Mobile Brigada is my only option, they seem okay and would be good as a member of a fire team. If I'm playing a vanilla force they seem really underwhelming for their cost. Not bad, just not very interesting. I just want an opinion on the other options. I already have a Kriza Boracs model, its really expensive but it seems like I get what I pay for. LT options, good skills, 360 vision, full auto L2 and some hard hitting weapons. The other option that I really like is the Taskmaster. I've always liked the look of this model and it seems like it has a lot of flexibility. Red Fury, Crazykolas, and a tinbot deflector seems like it could serve a variety of roles for a lower cost. At the lower point games, I assume that for most mission objectives sinking that many points into one unit isn't practical. I know most of it comes down to personal preference and the situation but do any veteran players have any good advice on their use? In higher point games, how much support do heavy, expensive units like these need to be effective? Engineers to fix damage from comm attacks and E/M weapons for example. Also, is the only option for a Nomad deflector tinbots in the Taskmaster and Riot Grrls boxes?

i know its so hard to decide if I want a more "serious" paint scheme or crazy style for my Nomads. I am basing some of my new miniature forces. For some of my Combined Army and Ariadna forces I've been thinking of using plastic bases instead of the MDF ones. Are the new line of fire bases worth using? I like the idea of them but I literally already a box of older bases and some other styles just sitting on my desk.

They just want to run up and hug you!from the cool mini site
  10. Thanks my aging eyes and fingers thank you. I ended picking up a used set of german panzer grenadiers and a couple of support weapons. I just have to switch around some of the weapons and paint them up which should be quick. I usually want to pick up extra stuff so I can convince my friends to play. They all have massive Warhammer armies but rarely play, so convincing them to even try a new game can be like pulling teeth (let alone buying new miniatures). So for games I want to play I tend to need a decent selection of units for each side. I'm trying to get two of my friends to play a couple of games so they might be inclined to stop by for games on Tuesdays. I don't think I would use them much but I'm actually thinking of building a Puma or something because the AFVs look really good on the table. So I have to balance the stuff I want to field but also having some nice opposing force so my friends can pick up a game or two. I'm pretty sure that when they actually set down and have a couple of good games they will see that Bolt Action is more beginner friendly than past systems they have played. So with the league being a couple of months away I have enough time to put together some more rounded units that I would like to play, but also so my friends can try a couple of games and either use some of my units or build their own starter unit. But I'm half way there. Awhile back I saw a really nice Burma table on the terrain tutor. So I've been slowly working on some terrain for a pacific/Burma theater campaign. I was brainstorming about river ideas with a kind of Bridge on the River Kwai feel and my friends both have been interested with the logistics of bridge and river building. And both of them really liked the older sets of Chindits and Japanese jungle fighters that I've been painting. So a good looking Bolt Action force ready to play might just be the tipping point for them. I know I could use some of the forces that I have already. They are kind of theater specific, which rules wise doesn't matter much. But it would be one more abstraction that would just seem kind of odd.
  11. Sounds like a lot of fun! I will be there.
  12. Thank you very much for the helpful information. I put a Japanese Army unit on hold because it seemed like I had to adjust every figure because they all were staring at their feet. I have a heavy infantry army so it just never seemed like I was going to finish. Just trying to squeeze another project into my crowded schedule. I actually picked up a used set of metal and plastic german soldiers. So see what their gear is and reprime them and get to painting when they arrive. Thanks for the information on your experiences with some of the other sets, I really enjoy the painting aspect of the hobby. Building models over and over, not so much.
  13. Thank you for the information. I don't have the time or patience right now to fuss around with really small model pieces 30+ times. I like the variety of the really multipart sets but I get tired of adjusting every weapon. I've been looking at a couple of units for awhile so I will try and build a newer set. Thanks again.
  14. I'm thinking about starting a new Bolt Action army to start playing again this January and I just wanted to get a little advice. I've only played a few casual games awhile back and most of the stuff I have right now seems more theater/theme specific. I'm thinking about picking up the German Grenadier or Fallschirmjager starter army set and just wanted some advice. It looks like the German Grenadier infantry sprues have separate weapons. I like having options, but are weapons that need to be attached separately more trouble than they are worth? German airborne infantry look like they have the arms and rifles/weapons already attached which is what I've mostly worked with. Also, does anyone have any experience on how the build process for the British and American airborne units is? Thanks for any advice.

Thanks, my wife wasn't feeling well and there was a million things that needed to get done around the house. I'm planning on being their next Sunday. 😊
  16. Thanks for the idea of packing the gap before hand with baking soda before hand. I think I just need to be more methodical and slow down if I'm using that method. I usually use CA and baking soda to speed up the sit time for hard to attach pieces. It would give me an excuse to try these applicators out.
  17. Thanks for the tip. I'm always wary about additives to CA glue though. Its great when it works, but my fingers are clumsy and I always manage to manage make some sort of mess. When the glue cures in a few seconds its rock solid, which is great when I don't make a mistake. But I always have some patch of rock solid finger print or smudge that I have a nightmare cleaning up, usually it doesn't show up much until I prime the model.

    New Faction Advice

I hate miniature games, I'm looking at what new stuff I want to pick up while there is half an army of stuff on my desk waiting to be painted. At least I've managed to get most of them out of the packages and assembled. Okay, maybe just the Combined Army starter or the Ariadna Antipode squad until I finish the last of my Nomads. At least when I'm painting a lot of stuff I can get my wet pallet and air brush set up and do a lot of the base work in an assembly line fashion. At least with skirmish games I never have enough stuff to get sick of painting the same kind of unit.
  19. I might not be able to make it today for Infinity. There might be too much going on around the house to get away. I will do my best to make it, still up in the air.
  20. Thank you, thats just the kind of information I wanted. If its just about as good as what I'm using its not worth the effort. That sounds about the same as my modeling paste, which i still have a bunch of. I will look at the video on Table Top Minions to see some of its other uses. I have a box of hot wheels that I've been thinking of converting to Gaslands, I just have so many other projects.
  21. Sorry if this is asked before but has anyone used liquid green stuff? I want to quickly fill some minor gaps in a batch of models. Usually for minor stuff I use some model paste watered down slightly to fill the gap and cut down on sanding. This works fine for minor stuff but I have a couple of spots that are slightly too wide for paste, green stuff and extra fine milliput seem like overkill. The other day I saw a bottle of citadel liquid green stuff, which seems to be intended for just this purpose. It has really mixed reviews though, but some seem to be in trying to use it like regular green stuff putty and the product being dried out when they bought it. Has anyone used this in the past? I don't want to waste time and money on something that is just going to sit on my work shelf. And, if someone has used it, any pointers on using it for minor gaps?

Ditch the Nomad Zeros and pick the interstellar heros!
  23. Yeah, I just have to get better at using the bandit, especially the KHD. I've mostly used them to quickly grab objectives and then get away, but last week I got taken out by another killer hacker coming out of camo because I let myself get caught too close to a repeater. I read a battle report from a game with someone that ran two bandits and an intruder. He made sure to keep one of the bandits in the same deployment zone as the intruder so when it moved forward his opponent didn't know if it was a bandit or an intruder so had to worry about both. I have to get better with being patient with revealing my camo units. Thanks very much for the advice on the 3 man fire teams. That makes perfect sense and solves a problem I was mulling around. I have trouble enough moving one or two models effectively, so I was debating if it was worth the hassle to run a larger fire team. The natural inclination is to take the max number in a team to get the extra bonus. But I think any bonus would be negated by me stumbling into area effect weapons or having stragglers picked off. And a smaller fire team will make the deployment so much easier. I picked up a couple of extra Mobile Brigada so I have a few more options when I start using fire teams. That and I'm almost done with painting and basing my Gecko TAG, so I will have an extra Brigada for duo team if I ever use it. @Sgt. Rock do you find you get the best use of a Daktari directly in the fire team? Thanks
  24. Thanks, I've been having fun learning the game with mostly Corregidor units. A lot of good, dependable units without being too overwhelming. Some of their flexibility has let me recover from beginner mistakes in deployment, movement, etc. The force does have Valerya Gromoz WIP 14, and a Moblie Brigada hacker WIP 13 and they both can be in fire teams. Maybe not as fancy or cost efficient as Tunguska. I haven't really used the hacking units because its just one more layer to try and figure out and make work on the table. A Bandit hacker still gets a surprise bonus when coming out of camo attacking another hacker with an offensive program right?
  25. So I've built all the models I picked up at the club garage sale but I don't want to get too distracted by new stuff. So a quick advice question on rounding out some of the stuff that is already ready to play. I'm not sure exactly what I want to play with Panoceania, so I'm holding off on getting stuff for them unless I find used remotes. It seems every Pano list I look at has a bunch of REMs so seems like a safe purchase if I find some sale. I'm leaning toward just a vanilla force to have some flexibility. Plus I can then take a unit with chain of command (Kirpal Singh maybe) which frees using my lieutenant aggressively with one of the Heavy Infantry units I already have. For Nomads, I have a full Corregidor Sectorial force, other than a proxy or two (if I take a mercenary ), I have plenty of options. As I'm slowly learning the game I see a big gap in my Nomad Vanilla line up of hackers and info warfare types. I was thinking about picking up the Interventor box as my next purchase. They look like a good choice, so spending a little extra for two sets of models seem reasonable. The other choice would be an older single Interventor model and a newer Heckler with a Fastpanda included. This option comes out slightly cheaper than the Interventor box. Or, is the flexibility of the two units types such that I might want to pick up both the box and the Heckler? Second, just thinking about the usefulness of a Jammer over other options for a Heckler. I've only had a unit in an isolated state once and it was sufficiently annoying to avoid it in the future. A Heckler has several profiles, does anyone have a strong opinions or advice on any of them? The other unit I was interested in was the Uberhacker Mary Problems. Does she have a model? If not, I could use the armed Interventer from the box set. Any suggestions appreciated.
