Someone asked on my facebook page about Tervigons and Termagaunt spawning.  Is there an issue here i need to understand?

Please discuss.  I don't have my books and don't know Tyranids yet but I do need to understand what the rules issue is with replacing Termagaunts.

Well you didn't post the question, so I'm not sure what the issue is. If you spawn a new unit, then that unit must come from your reserve points. If you are replacing models in an existing unit, then those are free (by my current reading of the rules). The rules talk about placing new units and replacing destroyed units using reserve points, but no mention of replacing models lost in a unit still on the table.

BroG has it right. Creating new Units requires Reserve Points*, reinforcing existing ones does not. The wording is actually pretty clear on this in the Match Play Rules, but I can see why it seems odd to some people.

*Barring a few exceptions. The only ones I can think of at the moment are Spore Mines and Mucolids.

I thought it was probably this.  That is the most intuitive reading of the rules as I know them as well.  I do not think the "healing" of units is the same as summoning which I am now told was the issue i needed to rule on.

Withough any books to look at, and with the initial question being nebulous to me at first, i needed help.

Thanks for giving it.  Discuss more if its needed.

I don't expect to often see them used to generate new Units, but using them to keep a big Brood of Termies (probably with 15 or so Devourers in there) topped up with ablative Fleshborer dudes is probably gonna be a thing.
