A first draft map of the main area of a new D&D setting I'm tinkering with. Ten petty kingdoms that have been carved out of the remains of a once mighty empire, that abut a dangerous frontier filled with trolls, ogres, and other nasty critters. I've still got a lot of work to do, but I wanted to share.

60-78:    A local warlord named Veruko starts an uprising that eventually drives out the Imperial government.

98-104: Four imperial Legions, led by the great general Kuristo, re-invade Malnova. They defeat Veruko in battle, but are unable to maintain a hold over the newly independent people for long.

110:    Domo I, grandson of Veruko, is crowned the first king of Drakon.

192:     Fortan is captured on his way home by Duke Kuraĝa of Lacerton and handed over to Domo VI of Drakon. Domo IV demands a heavy ransom.

193-94: Kovard leads an insurrection against Fortan's reign, placing his army in Kastelo.

Questions: You say the Malnova imperium was colonized, where from?

If a local warlord drove out the imperial government, where did the 4 legions come? Aka where did the imperial goverment get driven to?

Also I feel like the timeline should include incursions from/into the troll lands

Are there any outside influences? Possibly viking esk where they just raid this main country? Maybe it could develop where they end up settling for land after one war.

The basic history (which is still very, very, very rudimentary) is to have had an older expansionist empire Somewhere Else that came here, colonized it, had troubles hanging on, and ultimately events Somewhere Else caused it to collapse. Analogous to the relationship between the great Roman Empire and it’s colonies in Britain.

Although, between you and me, the more ideas I find myself sketching out for this setting the more I realize I’m just re-writing the setting I can up with twenty years ago.
