Forgotten Gargoyles Space Marines

Also, since I'm running a custom chapter, I can't take any DA special characters. It's not a big deal, but it has limitations.

I mean you can play whatever you want and call them Dark Angel. So if you want Forgotten Gargoyles Azreal just make sure he has a power sword and combi plasma. Then make him fit your chapter.

If you actually want to play by the rules, which I do, both the DA codex and the Index specifically ban this. I can make my own custom chapter, but special characters are tied to the GW specific chapters.

I know, no one will insist I do it this way, but it bugs me, so I plan to play rules as written.

There is not a single rule anywhere, written by anyone saying that your Blood Angel's have to be painted the exact shade of red that GW paints them in. Or even that you have to paint them red. You can paint Blood Angels any color that you want. There is not RAW for painting armies. There can't be, everyone has different level of skills in regards to painting. Heck, some people cant even see the same color as most. And painting your army any color you want, regardless GW's fluff, works for anything. Dark Angel's, Ultramarines, Alpha Legion, Bad Moons, anything.

Your issue/hang up/personal guideline prevents you from painting your Dark Angel Chapter Master, Azreal grey because GW has painted their Dark Angel Chapter Master, Azreal green. That is how GW suggests you paint Dark Angels, not the rule.

Now the only actual rule states that if you want to name your chapter The Forgotten Gargoyles and use Dark Angel's chapter tactics, that you are then cut off from using special characters. Again no mention of how you have to paint your army, just that if you want <keyword> Forgotten Gargoyles you cant have Azreal.

What, for the life of me, I dont understand is why cant you play Dark Angel's in every aspect, except they are painted grey and your pronounce "Dark Angels" as "Forgotten Gargoyels". It doesn't break RAW. And it allows you to play your army with the look you want AND the rules you want.

But again it's your army, do want you want I guess.

@SPaceORK you aren't telling me anything new. And I am fine with it, I knew what I was signing up for when I started. Don't really feel I need to defend my selection of my army.

Anyway, this project has been going slow, but isn't forgotten. Test model in progress:

Orange is supposed to be the first coat of rust, but it isn't dark enough, I think. Turns out there's a darker rust called "dried rust", so replacing the orange is the next step.

"Dried Rust" is definitely what I was looking for.

Need to go back over the grey, add colors for scrolls, add colors for skulls, free-hand DA symbols on the green, add color for lens/headlights, and, of course, finish assembly. Also thinking I should add wear to the green and the grey.

On the other hand, if I insist that they are my custom successor chapter that isn't dark angels. They get the Forgotten Gargoyles keyword, not the Dark Angels keyword. This means that you have a specifically anti-DA stratagem/ability, it won't work on me because these aren't Dark Angels. Not a great trade for special characters, but this is a thing.

Granted your anti-IMPERIUM and anti-ADEPTUS  ASTARTES will still work just fine...as would any ability that said it applied to DARK ANGELS (or their successors).

Probably won't come up much, if at all.

Played 2 rounds against @Brandon and his Deathwatch+Astra Militarum.

Only got two rounds in. He arrived a bit late, but I don't think it was much. I was pretty tired and had fun, so I didn't really notice that we were going slow until he had to go.

It was a learning game, for sure. He's new to this edition of 40k and this really is only my second game with the DA. So not an issue being slow.

My list worked too well. Opponent couldn't cope with 2+ armor. Caestus Assault Ram dominated, tartaros terminators we're great. Devs did well, tact's too. Company vets were poised to be amazing on turn 3+.

I think my list was too strong for a learning game. Sorry about that, @Brandon

Terrain was set up in a way where my fire lanes were very limited. We did mission #4. I lost.

His lists always make me want to bring the kinds of things that won't work against any other opponent. Very extreme lists. Just didn't have enough shooting/attacks.

So I was planning to not include any flyers (aside from the ceastus assault ram) due to my theme of narcolepsy marines.

That said, I find myself wanting both whirlwinds and sniper scouts, which lends me to want to run LS storms (which has FLY). For my purposes, the LS storm would basically be a shooting platform, I suppose I could model them as "watchtowers" or maybe just model them as skimmers stuck in trees...thoughts?

Got a game against @Inquisitor66 with the above. Called it a tie after 4 complete rounds without anyone being able to hold the central objective. It was quite fun. 

The dice were rolling hot for both players. I almost got yattzee with 6s in a single try. And got yattzee with a the next die rolled.
