Adepta Sororitas Battle Reports

I played the hammer and Anvil deployment, using the Chapter Approved mission for gathering Intel.

A new acquaintence wanted to play against Sisters of Battle so I agreed to play a foot slogging version like my old army in 5th Edition.  The game was fun.  I got into writing the batrep and came up with this.  It's more narrative which is my style.  Feel free to read it or not.

MY army was 3 Exorcists, 6 Sisters Squads, 3 Dialogus, Canoness F'Lell, Celestine, Uriah, and 3 small Seraphim squads.

His was Longstrike and three onheads, Broadsides, Riptide, Cadre Fireblade, Coldstar Commander, Shadowsun, some shield Drones, a few small FW squads and three small Pathfinder squads.

Enjoy

The Adepta Sororitas were made aware that the insidious forces of the T’au Empires propaganda machine had been hard at work on Selusa Triumph. The T’au were manufacturing  false doctrine to the masses freely through their contacts.  No warp disturbances were detected so Exterminatus was ruled out.

Forces landed and disembarked the loyalist transports:  nearly a battle company worth of the most faithful among the Empire found their boots on the ground and servos whirring.

Celestine, three Dialogus, Uriah Jacobus and a Canoness led six Sisters of Battle units in full battle regalia forth to their muster points, like the wings of an Aquila to either side of Celestine, as if extensions of her own wings.  Three Exorcist Battle Tanks trundled into position far behind them in preparation for the work to come.  Three groups of Seraphim flew high into the sky and prepared to dive bomb the enemy from above.

Across from them, entrenched in the eastern old battle works were a Riptide, Shadowsun and the Cadre Fireblade.  Joining them to the southeast was a full squad of the dreaded Broadsides against which The Canones F’Lell had fought before, with tearful results.  Shield Drones buzzed around them all to protect them like pinpoint barriers and the Fire Warriors and Pathfinders were stationed on two disparate objectives to the southeast and northeast.

1

The advance was ordered and immediately F’Lell’s soldiers-without-doubt forced their servos to augment their movement advancing hard and fast towards the central building which blocked line of sight and which could provide a considerable shadow to use as protection against incoming fire.  With so far to go, it seemed certain that casualties would be heavy.

The Northwest corner objective was held by an Exorcist and its accompanying Sisters of Battle.  The Exorcist opened up its missile silos and belched forth a symphony of Destruction, doing serious damage to a Hammerhead Tank far east of it, the tip of the enemy’s offensive spear.  The Exorcist to the center had moved around the building and fired also, crushing the tank like a tin can in a grinding machine.  The Sisters of Battle cheered in concert as their legs pumped them towards cover and Uriah sang an emboldening Battle Hymn while the Dialogus’s continued to use their voice amplifiers to accompany him.

The T’au Sept may have been caught on its heels but it was commanded by one of the greatest generals to ever walk the surface of T’au itself:  Commander Shadowsun as F’Lell and the other Canonesses often referred to her.  She had eyed the approached, timed it, prepared her Broadsides and when the time was ripe, she ordered them to fire with the simple flick of her eyelid, and transmitting pinpoint data to them she had gathered.  The missile fusillade that followed was awe inspiring.  The Sisters of Battle who were holding the southwest objective in a serpentine line toward the front were absolutely unprepared for it and their remains bore witness to the folly of doing so.  There were none left when the smoke cleared.  This set back cost the Battle Sisters valuable intelligence they were taking from a node there.  No matter.  Larger threats of equally disastrous proportions were afoot and the enemy took aim with their massive Ion Cannons and the Ion Accelerator of the Riptide.  The combined effort was accurate thanks to the Markerlights of the enemy.  They shattered the hull of the Exorcist tank that had also been protecting the southwest objective!  Clinically they removed it and set their sights on the rest of the Sisters.

A Commander Battlesuit shot forward with awesome suddenness as well and tried to assassinate the Exorcist to the northwest.  Its haste cost it accuracy though and the tank survived the surprise attack:  the first miscalculation F’Lell observed in Shadowsuns plan so far. Otherwise, it had been an unmitigated success for the enigmatic general, and and F’Lell was impressed.  Only raw faith would win this day because firepower like that wasn’t going to repel itself.

2

Now formally appraised of the true nature of the T’au firepower, Canoness F’Lell  ordered a focus on the Broadsides and the entire mass of Battle Sisters entered the buildings to take cover, knowing now that the Smart Missiles of the T’au Empire could find them anywhere but making as much haste as they could to take cover might alleviate the weight of tgose High Yield Missile Pods..

Celestine was ready to launch her assault, rushing T’au Pathfinders who were to the fore of the enemy force.  Her sword did not found as much willing flesh as she wished, the Pathfinders dancing around in the cover they had taken.  Their morale held and they survived much to her chagrin.  The push forward had now given the Battle Sisters control of 2 objectives but the third in the southwest having been lost was a blow and the Seraphim didn’t show up to reclaim it for some reason.; delayed no doubt by the heavy fighter fire overhead.

The Exorcists launched their missiles and this time their Seeker missiles at the Broadsides, but he Shield Drones around them managed to intercept the worst of it.  Still, some damage did get through.  The central Exorcist had moved to take cover behind the central building and fired, killing Pathfinders in a building to the northeast.

The Broadsides had a capable commander and Shadowsun anticipated that the Battle Sisters would take cover centrally but she had also calculated that they couldn’t all get in and so commanded the Broadsides forward to get an angle on the Exorcist tank that had taken refuge behind it while saving some of their attention to the stragglers.

She opted not to order another Kau’Yon yet since the Broadsides were too far away and it would have given her position away if she had come with them.  The Broadsides nonetheless managed to fire masses of smart missiles into the exposed Sisters while the Exorcist exploded in a white fury from the tender mercies of their High Volume Missile Pods.  Clearly the efficacy of the Marker lights from the remaining Pathfinders had been more than enough to keep their targeting computers busy.  This time, however, only 4 Battle Sisters died in the split fire.   A small comfort for the pilots of the Exorcist.

The Ion Hammerheads took aim and tried to avenge the Commander who had sacrificed himself, but failed to down the tough hull of the northwestern Exorcist.  The Riptide fired what it could at the advancing enemy as well, using its Ion Accelerator to destroy Celestine where she stood.  The smoke rising from the Crater revealed that by some miracle, she had survived a blow that surely should have killed her…

The T’au gained ground in the fight.  The score was 5-4 by T’au by this time.

3.

Canoness F’Lell ordered the Battle Sisters from the central ruins and forward into the Pathfinders that had caused Celestine to get blasted.  They wrapped around them up like a coiling serpent, and tri-pointed their lone survivor, protecting the Battle Sisters from the T’au Empires ensuing retribution.  He tried to fail the morale check by re-rolling but could not.

Celestine jumped up to the ramparts to the northeast and assaulted the Pathfinders, killed them and then attacked a second time into the nearby fire Warriors who managed to survive it.  A Seraphim Squad alighted near the same building and flamed the same fire warriors but got very little for their efforts and were left out in the open after failing the charge.

Seraphim jumped onto the southwest objective to reclaim i, safely inside the building near it.  The third unit of Seraphim jumped into the central building the Battle Sisters had vacated.

The Warlord Dialogus lost communications with Canoness F’Lell and held back to hold the objective in the middle instead of someone else.  This was a huge error as it limited the radius of his Warlord abilities.

Uriah, the Canoness and the other Dialogus’s came roaring from the building with the Battle Sisters and towards the Broadsides.  It was a bit far and the Meltaguns weren’t numerous but despite Shield Drone interference the Sisters of Battle managed to down one of the Broadsides to the southeast, a huge coup.  The Canoness F’Lell was lagging behind them and could not bring her Inferno pistol to bear.

The last Exorcist tank to the northwest opened up its guns and landed a telling blow on a Hammerhead Gunship, nearly crippling it.  Commander Longstrike of the T’au forces was too far away to target.  The Sisters of Battle next to the Exorcist took cover and stayed frosty for more feints like the Commander earlier.  They now respected Shadowsun too much to drop their guard as their sisters to the southwest   had in the early going…  But then they had always been a bunch of cowgirls and they supposed it was just a matter of time before something like that happened.

Shadowsun could see now that she might have wanted to accompany the Broadsides.  It was too far for the Kau’Yon to affect the Broadsides but she declared it anyways to assist the Riptide and the Pathfinders near her.

They dotted the Sisters with Markerlights and began blasting away, killing most of the already hurt unit that threatened the southeastern corner.  But now Sisters were pouring into the enemy zone and they were rapidly running out of time to kill them all.  The Ion Hammerheads Gunships let loose and hurt Celestine (3 wounds) after the Fire Warrior who survived the charge in the Northeast corner ran away from their assailant.  The Hammerheads ground seven of the Sisters of Battle in front of them into so much dust with their relentless fire.  Missiles were everywhere and the air filled with the smell of ozone from the T’au Weaponry.  At this range they didn’t miss much and didn’t fail to wound often.  A dozen of Sisters of Battle were laid low.

Unfortunately the objectives were very much in the hands of the forces of the Ebon Chalice now.  All but one was controlled giving the Sisters of Battle a massive boost to their chances.

The score was now 8-7 Sisters of Battle

4

Canoness F’Lell and the very few remaining Sisters of Battle to the southeast rammed themselves into the Riptide and the Fire Warriors controlling the Southeast corner, at great cost.  Canoness F’Lell felt the passion of the Emperor and attacked like a whirling dervish ending the Fire Warriors and consolidating into the Shield Drones.  The Sisters now controlled the objective there.

More Sisters of Battle streamed forward to shoot their meltaguns into the Hammerheads, swarming the objective to the northeast.  Celestine attempted to charge a Hammerhead that had alighted on a building, but was cut down by the vicious overwatch.  The Exorcist let loose and continued to pour fire down range as well.  The Hammerhead was crippled and would never leave its roost atop that building but the other was okay and Longstrike continued to be unharmed far to the east.

Uriah Jacobus and the Dialogus’s as well as a Sisters squad that had been unable to grapple with anything fired with abandon to kill drones and the way for more of the Canoness’s carnage.

When it was over, Long strike a crippled Hammerhead and a fairly unscathed one formed the backbone of the remaining Tau forces in the northeast.  To the Southeast was the Cadre Fireblade, wounded Riptide, Shadowsun and the Broadsides.

Shadowsun was gripped with grim resolve and ordered her forces to fight back.  Unfortunately, most of the Sisters were out of line of sight or engaged in melee, so the Broadsides didn’t have a lot of shooting solutions available.  The Riptide fell back as did the shield drones to the southeast and did what they could, killing all but one of the Battle Sisters on the southeast objective, but one was enough.

Longstrike killed the Exorcist tank and the Hammerheads rained death on the Sisters of battle but there were just too many.

Score was 13-9 Sisters of Battle

5

Shadowsun ran out of time and so the Sisters surged one last time.  The Tau surrendered but not before the Canoness climbed the southeast tower and cut the head off of the Cadre Fireblade Warlord and then almost killed Shadowsun with the passion of the Emperor.

With secondary objectives scored, it was a 22-10 Sisters of Battle Victory.

Played another game, this time against the forces of Chaos.  Fought the blight of Nurgle.  Interesting list.  Almost entirely mechanized.  3 Foetid Plague Drones, 3 Plagueburst Crawlers, couple of the ForgeFiends, a Defiler and some guys to basically shield them (pox Walkers and such) and Psykers to protect and enhance them..

The mission was the one like Fortnite where the goal was to get closer and closer to the center to score points.  This instantly favored me, because my numbers were 106 to his 60 or so.

1

I got the first turn and moved up.  I didn't get very many shots in and failed to kill anything, even with 3 Exorcists firing.  He advanced up with his body shields and fired away. Killed an entire 15 Sisters squad and a total of 20.  It was kinda brutal.

Score 1-1

2

I split my forces and assigned the exorcists and half the sisters to the left to assist in the eradication of the Dones, killing all three with Celestines help on their assault phase but flamage happened and it was really strong as always.  The Passion was helpful.  To the right my forces dashed to take cover in the shadow of the central LOS blocker and shot up the Nurglings that had charged my Exorcist.    My characters unwisely ended up in sort of limbo between the two and this would prove problematic.  His exploding drones wounded a lot of characters.  Seraphim came in and killed the Nurglings that were trying to line break in my far corner.

On his turn he surged forth and wailed away with his savage number of highSTR shots but fortunately that was somewhat less effective against the already soft skinned sisters.  The Emperor protected this time and casualties were much lighter.

Score:  2-1 Sisters

3

With the Nurglings dealt with, the two Seraphim squads that had flamed and charged the Nurglings jumped forward, while the third unit of Seraphim that missed the charge jumped to take cover in the building the Nurglings had occupied.  Flame spewed from the two Seraphim squads that moved forward, killing several Poxwalkers.  the Sisters who had circled to the right lit into them as well and devastated them, but now charges were inevitable.

The Sisters to the left moved up and with The Exorcists, fired on and killed a SiegeCrawler.  It took all they had to do it.  A little squad of 2 Sisters of Battle was all that was left of one squad (ravages of Drones) there along with a half squad and a full squad (more ravages of drones)..

Celestine leapt forward into the enemy deployment zone and behind a building with Uriah Jacobus to try and charge a SiegeCrawler, but missed the charge.

Nurgle finally got to charge on the right.  The Pox walkers and their brethren shot and rushed the Seraphim, killing all but two in one of the units.  The War machines belched death but because of the intervening terrain, targets were more limited and the Sisters weathered it well.

Score:  Sisters 3-1

4

Celestine decided to give up on charging the siegeCrawler since the enemy warlord was within a plausible distance to leap and charge and she used her Act of Faith to make her fly faster.  This charge effectively linked her up with her sisters that had broken to the right, but left the Sisters to the left behind, to deal with the Siege Crawlers alone.  The things were quite resilient and laughed off damage that would have killed any lesser machines but he remaining little two man squad degraded one nonetheless.  it was down to three wounds!

At this point Uriah, the Canoness and the many Dialogus were sort of left meandering centerfield unable to contribute much other than sheer bodies at the objective.

I literally forgot to move my last Seraphim that were behind a rock and so they sort of just stood there.

The Sisters to the right were busy, shooting and charging the Pox walkers after the two Seraphim leapt away from the mass of evil there.  The Poxwalkers were unprepared for the fusilade and the fury!  I even had the Battle Sisters attack twice because why not?  Would have been way better if Uriah had been there but what can ya do?  At this stage, Celestine was pretty close to them.

The Pox walkers continued to fight the Battle sisters and the huge cannonade tee'd off on the smaller sisters squad to the left, obliterating it but ironically leaving the little two man squad alive.  The Siege Crawlers had moved away from the Meltaguns to the left to avoid getting hit harder than they would otherwise have.  This allowed Celestine to make a heroic intervention against one of them!  She did not however kill it, doing just two wounds, and it had healed one so it was at 2 still.  The remaining character which was some sort of Psyker got out of combat or Celestine wouldn't have been able to. so it was kind of an odd sequence.  It worked out for him since his Psyker survived to fight again.

Score:  Sisters 4-1

5

The pincers moved in and continued to shoot and not kill the SiegeCrawlers on the left.  two Exorcists and they just couldn't get it done .  Too tough.  The Poxwalkers were vanquished as was the Nurgle Psyker though by an exorcist that could now target him.  The Siege Crawler managed to once again not die even though Celestine attacked it twice.  I mean...dayam.

His last response was to kill that two man squad and fire down on the remaining meltas nearby that could hurt them, but not enough hit and he had no Command Points to Daemon Forge his stuff at that point.

Final Score:  7-1

Ork Northeast Position.jpg

ORKS vs. ADEPTA SORORITAS

Quadrant deployment, 4 Objectives.  ITC.

Sisters Secondaries:  Reaper, Marked for Death and Old School

Ork Secondaries:  Kingslayer, Old School and Recon

Worlds scoured by the avaricious nature of the Ork Hordes for what, she thought.  Not actually mindless, just greedy, ill mannered and combative for the most part, the orks were well known for their penchant for becoming entrenched once allowed a single spot on any world, multiplying like fungus.

This small patch had grown from seemingly nowhere, which was precisely where F’Lell intended to send them.

To the Northeast quadrant was a huge ruin filled with the infestation.  Lootas dominated two floors of the Structure with layers of Gretchen drones buzzing about their masters desperate to make them happy enough to make them think of something, anything, besides abusing the poor wretches.  Gretchen were filthy creatures to be sure, yet far more reasonable under interrogation than their ork counterparts.  There had to be at least 50 of them protectively circling the Lootas.

Behind the whole affair were 30 Ork Boyz and at the speartip of their deployment zones was another 30 man squad.  Another 20 were expected because of the Tellyporta the Orks were using.  F’Lell had seen it before and knew it would eventually rain orks.  In all there were about 175 of the grenskins.

To the Orks right were 3 sets of 3 bikers belching their exhaust as they prepared to ride hard and an enormous Wartrike right behind them.  Directly in the fore of their deployment zone were 4 strange Kannons in a ruin much smaller than the one the Lootas were dominating further east.

Canoness F’Lell, Celestine, 3 Dialogus and the wild flowing beard of Uriah Jacobus formed a column almost but not quite at the very spearpoint of their quadrant.  As was the custom, the Battle Sisters were respendent in their red armor and white flowing robes, forming lines next to Celestines column which vaguely made one think of the unfurled wings of the Living Saint.  In all 82 Battle Sisters took their places.  Unbeknownst to the Orks the Seraphim were prepared to rain on them from above!  Or so F’Lell hoped.

The central ruin allowed some of the Sisters to be obscured from the deadly Lootaz but such a large force couldn’t be completely hidden of course.  Good.  Let he orks know the faces of those who would send them to whatever hell they prepared for one another.  Worrying her were the orks poised to advance on them through it unseen…

Exorcist tanks took up position far to the rear in anticipation fo the ork aggression and out of range of the Lootas, but not the shock attack gun hidden in the second floor among the Lootaz.

The call to arms was over but the Orks weren’t just going to politely wait to start the festivities.

1

The Deffguns boomed and fired not once but twice using a Stratagem they recently developed.  The Lootaz caused severe damage to the unit they could see and reach, covering the advance of their spearhead, but the spearhead wasn’t able to reach the Battle Sisters and Saint Celesting for which the Canoness gave thanks to the Emperor.

Orks that were, a moment ago, behind the Lootaz’ building suddenly appeared right in front of the furthest south unit of Battle Sisters who were in a ruin themselves.  Here again, the Orks attempted to fire on and charge the Sisters of Battle there hoping to take refuge in the ruins afterwards.  A good plan  but it was too far to reach the Battle Sisters.  Here again the Emperor protects.  However their pistols actually did a pretty fair amount of damage, killing 3 of the Battle Sisters in cover.

Bikers shot at maximum speed to the objective in the northwest, moving at blinding speeds (giving the orks two objectives), but the Wartrike wasn’t able to join them through the narrow gap in the ruins the Kannons were in and so it looped around to prepare with the ork spearhead instead.

The Kannons fired on the Exorcist tank and the Exorcist bounces not one but TWO shells that would have done the Exorcist battle tank in. It was still crippled, with 8 wounds taken, but not dead.

F’Lell gave the order and the Exorcists fired, killing all three small Biker units that had made the dash to the northwest, first to clear the objective and then to clear those who would inevitably come after to take it again.  The Sisters of Battle were imbued with clarity when the canoness became a vessl of the Emperor, making the bolter strikes of the Sisters of Battle far truer.  When it was over no bikes remained.

Celestine jumped forward and attacked the Wartrike with the Passion.  He interrupted her second set of attacks using his own stratagems and struck her a near mortal blow for 5 wounds.  She whirled on him to finish her grizzly work and consolidated into a Kannon slightly damaged Kannon.

The Sisters of Battle began to prepare for the orks to the south.  The southern most two Battle Sister Squads  peeled off to shoot the 20 man squad that had jumped them, killing 9.  That was a perfect result, for the Sisters feared the way of the Green tide.  It had to be all or nothing.  So both units charged the Ork unit to try and kill it altogether and stop it from sporing again.  The charge was successful and the Battle Sisters managed to force the Orks into total retreat there but were left in the open.

The northwest quadrant was completely cleared and the two battle Sister squads that killed orks to the south prepared for the ork retribution.

Score:  3-1 Sisters Primaries

2

The Orks experienced some bad luck but numbers can overcome any problem or so their maxim stated.  The Lootaz split their fire and cut the southern squad that led the charge to ribbons, leaving just two alive.  The second unit that had helped them was also hurt a bit.  The remaining Kannon fired on the Exorcists again, and again the Shield of Faith on the Exorcists held against a deadly blow!  The orks sent an entire unit of 30 orks into the backfield using some foul sorcery and then Gretchen to take the northwest objective!

The ork spearhead which had been untouched did what spears do, slamming into everyone they could reach.  They nearly killed Uriah, did kill a Dialogus, and slew an entire unit of Sisters as well as sweeping up the Canoness into the fight.  They tried to kill her too but she was unscathed.  The Canoness made them pay very dearly for that however as she was taken by the Passion and eight orks were slain for their efforts in return.  Uriah likewise accounted well for himself in spite of it.  His war Hymn took the Canoness to new heights of vengeance for the Emperor.

The orks who teleported in, far to the west, charged and killed another Sisters of Battle Squad who intercepted the attack and actually took a few orks down before they could swing!  Their martyrdom and initiative will be remembered.  Those orks consolidated into an Exorcist to stop its guns from continuing to harass them.

The Kannon crew stood no chance against Celestine, and were slain for their insolence and their machine pounded into flaming ruin.

Canoness F’Lell told the wounded Uriah to leave while she fought on.  He did, falling back through a narrow opening among the orks where they hadn’t quite closed ranks on him.  She fought the Orks again with the Passion; and again she scoured their numbers with her fury, killing 7 more but the remainder of them killed her.  She was an example to us all.  Better to die for the Emperor than to live for oneself.  Several Orks were forced to flee just from the face of her fury alone, their morale broken somewhat.

With two Sisters of Battle units down, F’Lell fighting to her last breathe and the enemy right in front of their faces, it was definitely time to assert ones bravery.  The two remaining Sisters from the squad the Lootaz just decimated ran towards the building that was near the southeast objective but chose to overshoot the objective.  They would just hide there for now until they could do more good.  The other Sisters of Battle retreated back into the southern ruin that had been the enemies first target.  Loota fire was just too intense to endure in the open.

The other two Battle Sister squads ran up to the Orks who were holding up their exorcist.  It backed away, allowing them to fire point blank into them with everything they had ending the threat using yet again a Dialogus as the Vessel of the Emperor, giving maximum clarity to all and adding to their chances of hitting.  This combined with the number of shots destroyed the orks who had ported in to the west!

The remaining exorcists ended the last Kannon and Celestine charged the Warboss that had been behind the ork speartip, cutting his tusks off and slitting his throat.  His lack of armor cost him his life very quickly.  Celestine ended in the central ruin where no Lootaz could see her either.

This was a major victory as it left essentially only the Nob  of the ork spearhead in the Battle Sisters half of the field.

Score:  6-4 Sisters Primaries

3

The Orks are resilient and had made up some ground.  They were determined to maximize that.  The Spearhead nob charged and tried to kill Uriah But Uriah ended those hopes with his cudgel and charming way.

The Lootaz fired down on the Battle Sisters they could actually see, but the Battle Sisters weathered it rather well for once.  Their numbers were cut in half but it was still enough to continue onward.  The Gretchen around the Lootaz started to stir a little bit and the Shock Attack Gun found its mark but the amazing Shield of Faith saved the Exorcist again!

The Orks used their sorcery to send the KFF Mek in armor to the southeast objective to perhaps take it and also to perhaps charge the Sisters who had retreated to the ruins on either side of it.  The charge was not successful however.

The Battle Sisters were battered by the attack, but managed to reach the Gretchen holding the northwest objective.  They encircled them as the catechism directed,  and then strangled the life out of some as the Battle Hymns of Uriah uplifted their spirits during the grim and necessary cleansing.  The Gretchen did not falter en masse, to their credit, and there was no room to run anyways.  Six lay dead by the end of the massacre with 4 to go.  One is reminded that idle hands are Chaos’s playthings.

The Battle Sisters to the south moved in order to be able to get shots on the Mega-armored Nob that had appeared before them but couldn’t hurt it.  The two Sisters in the southeast ruin took their shots as well but the invulnerable nature of its armor saved it with one wound left but still a telling blow.  Their patience had paid off.  Seraphim rained from the skies and then charged it to stop it from taking the southeast objective without getting themselves all killed, though they did nothing to the Ork but annoy it.

The other two Seraphim squads came in and blasted away an entire layer of Gretchen using their Stratagem for enhancing their fiery pistol range and then they charged with Celestine and threw themselves at the 30 Gretchen Mob that was surrounding the ruin the Lootaz were in to the northeast. The Runtherder in the building kept them in order however.  The stinky little gits did manage to die to the Passion of Celestine, enough to pull the Seraphim out of combat and that left them squarely in front of the firing squad of the lootaz…

The Exorcists had little to fire at now so they moved forward and did nothing of consequence.

Score:  10-6 Primaries

4

The Lootaz didn’t take kindly to the Seraphim intrusion and wiped one of the Squads out that had interloped, then charged into the others from the building, killing three more, losing 11 of their own in the fiery overwatch!   A grim price indeed.

The Gretchen fought bravely to hold the northwest objective for their masters and were obliterated for the effort by the Battle Sisters who strangled them unto death.

The Ork Psyker used his sorcery to empower the Lootaz and charged in with the Runtherder on the Seraphim that remained.

The Seraphim forgot they could fire their pistols in combat and jumped out to flame 4 more of the Lootaz dead.

The Sisters of Battle who were not engaged with Lootaz shot at them as well whittling their numbers to nothing.

Celestine used the Passion again and crushed many more Gretchen, forcing more to get hit by the Runt herder to maintain order.  Good thing he was there.  One among them was the original John Grotti.

The Psykers staff damaged Celestine and got her near death during the swirl of melee.

The Seraphim to the south finally killed the KFF meganob.  That last wound just would not come off!

Score 14-8 Primaries

5

The Lootaz dead, it was up to John Grotti, the Runtherder  and the Wierdboy.  The Psyker unleashed hell on Celestine and killed her with Smite, and that left them in the open.  John Grotti took a picture over Celestines corpse to tell the other Gretchen he did it and then got teleported by the Weirdboy to the objective in the northeast the Gretchen had lost through casualties and the wierdboy had failed to advance back to.

The moment of victory was short lived when all guns turned to them.   The Sisters to the South, the Exorcists, the resurrected Celestine, the Seraphim that had finally overcome the KFF Nob and it was too much.  The orks with just a Gretchen and a Shock Attack Gun left, said adios.

Final Score: 30-15 (including Secondaries)

Oh.  That.  Okay.  Yeah I attended the last OFCC that I cared about it.  I remember when I started there it was forbidden and frankly I didnt do it anyways so it hardly mattered. I was really happy that they had that kind of policy because in previous editions some of the characters were simply too much.  One in particular I recall being just silly was the Night Bringer.

Now named characters are no more taboo than a bolt pistol.  Gone are the days of the legendary 2E Librarians with multiple levels of invuls.

I would also point out that there are also very few characters that really rise to the level of Castellan broken, except the Castellan of course.  I think its a character or can be or something strange.

Its also worth mentioning that a LOT of those named characters would bury themselves in units and then could leave the unit when they wanted to!  So that was a part of the problem with named characters being better, and also being almost unkillable til the end.  They still protect them, but not like before!

Now Snipers are super great and can do what only a Vindicare could before.  So characters can die like flies.  Bobby G and his ilk are kinda silly to try and kill, but it can be done if you're motivated and armed appropriately to do so!

Since you can only take 3 of any one datasheet (unit) in an army and 3 Detachments is common, it also becomes somewhat impractical not to allow named characters.

Anywho, so yeah.  Allowed.

Not as lengthy an update but I got to face Genestealer Cults for the first time.  Spent most of the game unclear about what I was looking at.  I got a limited chance to skim things but no time to study.  Pretty much just went with it because it was exciting to see.

I went first, moved and used my copious sisters to advance and cut off his drops.  To make a long story short, I did it until his stuff was forced out in front of me.

Hiltes were that I once again forgot to deploy any of my Seraphim.  201 points never to be seen again.  😞

Celestine died and failed to ressurrect even w a re-roll which was terrible and I think only the second time its happened to me in 8E.

He brought the pain when he got his chance to charge and cored out a squad leaving one Battle sister alivecand killing ten in one squad!  Faith Points and Command points gave him no reward (auto pass morale) and his success was so complete that all those units managed to whimper away, while their fellow Sisters and Exorcists (sans the aforementioned Seraphim) avenged the losses.

His Prime thing killed Celestine and tried to do the same to Battle Sisters but the Emperor protects.

At games end, his tabling was a certainty.  He had 3 IG models, a couple characters and his big squad left.  The big scary squad was going to maul a Sister unit and be decimated.  Exorcists and Sister remnants were mop up on the characters and IG.

Final score: 35-12

I played DeathGuard, 4 Objectives, Dawn of War.  Normal 40K game.

His list was a huuuuge cool model of the Great unclean One and 30 Pox Walkers, LandRaider full of Deathguard Terminator trouble for Exorcist hunting, along with Typhus, a few Plague Marine units and Plagueburst Crawlers and a Nurgle dreadnought.  Naturally the Plague Drones were in tow.

1

I went first and advanced most of my army, failing to get First Blood despite rolling quite well on the Exorcist number of shots.  Land Raider shrugged off blows like crazy.

He moved up and started the culling, but his Plague Drones couldn't reach the Sisters.  The LandRaider nearly took out an Exorcist.  The Plagueburst Crawler moved up in its terrain entirely hidden and fired.

2

Sisters were now on the move again this time coasting at normal speed.  The Vessel of the Emperor bestowed clarity, and a mass of bolter and Meltagun shots absolutely crushed the Poxwalkers and the Plague Marines to the left.  30 of them died with 8 Plague Marines to boot.  Exorcists continued to fail in their mission, trying to kill the Land Raider, though they did cripple it.

The Plague Drones were killed by Celestine and a Canoness,  near the center of the board, with the help of combined shooting beforehand (which proved highly ineffective and it took a TON of fire to get them wounded to a manageable level) but the Canoness was slain by the exploding Drone, and Celestine hurt, though she would heal some of it later.  The Sisters of Battle tothe right were pleasantly surprised to be able to reach the Plagueburst Crawler and charge it through the terrain it hid in, locking it up for a moment.

Plague Marines acted to repel the Sisters fo Battle who attacked the 'Crawler.  The Great UNclean One made a great charge roll and bashed into the Sisters of Battle on the left and took out as many as he swung at, with ease.  The Land Raider belched its deadly contents out and they charged the Sisters to the right while the Land Raider ended my Exorcist. The Plagueburst Crawler backed away to The Nurgle Dreadnought shot and wounded Celestine with its multimelta but she lived through it.

3

Battle Sisters who were engaged with the Great UNclean One backed away, and the rest killed it.  The left flank was now clear.  Celestine leapt to the Dreadnought in the center of the enemy deployment zone and killed it.  A Dialogus took command of the objective.  Uriah set in the center of the central ruin to await the return journey of the Sisters of Battle who would soon be streaming to the right.  Exorcists tried to kill the LandRaider but no dice.  Shockingly resilient.  Seraphim dropped from the sky to flame Typhus and his bodyguard who ejected from the Land Raider.  There was little effect.  Two other Seraphim units dropped in behind those in my deployment zone, to patiently wait in a ruin for their turn to affect things...

Typhus realized he was very exposed and charged into the Sisters of Battle that had attacked the 'Crawler, along wit hthe Land Raider which hoped to avoid the attentions of the Exorcists.  He left just too alive and they decided to flee, leaving Typhus exposed and the Land Raider exposed.

4

Celestine slew the Plague Marines in the Plague Crawlers ruins and attacked the Crawler, engaging it.  The Land Raider was demolished finally by exorcist fire.  One of Typhus Bodyguards was killed and the noose tightened.  Sisters FLOWED right at maximum possible speed, more or less slinging their rifles over their shoulders and running for all they were worth while Uriah made his way left to take the objective there eventually and keep it.  The Sisters who could actually fire did while the Exorcists were forced to shift positions to try and kill Typhus and couldn't land a telling enough blow.  So by and large the round was uneventful, and Celestine continued to try and kill the Crawler.  Again very hearty.

The Crawler pulled away again and Typhus dove for cover in the building Celestine was hacking away in.  Typhus charged her and dropped her, but she miraculously appeared as if unharmed!  There simply was nothing left to do so Typhus prepared for the worst.

5

Seraphim crested the ledge of the building Typhus was taking refuge in and washed him in flame but he cared not.  Only Celestine and some few Sisters could really even see into the ruin so that was about the extent of it...  and then I made a huge mistake and forgot to charge Typhus.  I have no idea why, but so sure of victory was I that I simply got in a hurry and conceded the turn to him at the end!  Wow.

Typhus made me pay and hacked Celestine in half.  Now huddled in the ruin with the Seraphim looking down on him with damnation and fiery absolution on their minds, and the many Battle Sisters having run for all they were worth, Typhus defiantly grunted as he prepared for the end, lashing out at Seraphim.

6.

The Seraphim saw no reason to stay and flew backwards and cleared the way for Celestines vengeance.  All guns fired.  A Battle Sister Squad exploded the Crawler that had endured and Typhus and his bodyguard were engulfed in Exorcist missile fire.

The Battle was over and not one Plague infested heretic stood.

14-1

OKay I am updating the list and have made some tweaks.  I don't ACTUALLY know if this version is necessarily better since I have not actually lost with the new version (YET) but this edited version SEEMS like it could be better.

Late night meandering thoughts:

Took the list for a spin at the Aberdeen tournament.  Went 2-1

I'm a bit tired so I won't do a whole write up yet, but it was fun.  I was able to get 4th place with it.

I lost to Colin Sherman who is excellent and who showed me the ridonculous speed of the GeneStealer Cults, with a Swarmlord.  I wasn't following all the movement rules he was using, but I've never seen foot models move that fast in my life!  His Aberrants were VERY effective.  My Acts of Faith failed me completely, twice early and it cost me dearly.  What was going to be a glorious rout turned into an inglorious rout if ya' know what I mean. I had my golden opportunity and just failed the Act of Faith rolls.  Like twice in a row it happened. Le sigh.  I lost like... 13 powerful melee attacks, re-rolling 1's to hit, and 10 so-so attacks because of it on just the first whiff.  Boy would that have brought those Aberrants to heel a lot faster!  He then used his Stratagem to do to me what I had planned to do to him.  Yup.  That hurt.

He took three forgeworld planes which could shoot 40 shots.  Yup.  Forge World...

The takeaway though is that even with those silly planes, and with the Aberrants and all of it, I had a very good chance.  Which is a far cry from how I felt about my previous list.  The score wasn't really indicative of the opportunities my sad rolling cost me in turns 2 and 3.

This is progress!

I will say that the Arco-Flagellents did not add to my list the way I had sort of hoped.  They are such an easy thing to kill, and while they did get a charge off in my first game to some effect, (Not great because Uriah wasn't close and they HAD to go lock up a couple Armigers)  they often had to be sheltered and sort of in lurk mode. In my second game they killed 10 IG and got slaughtered.  In the third game they never laid a finger on anything.  Just lurked and dared not go out into the fray.  The retarded bolter beta rule is really a miscalculation, I think.  It was absurdly good nd absolutely made me laugh at the idea of giving up those Arcos for free basically to non-moving lumps of bolter fire (as compared to my bolters which had to scurry the hell upfield to get some shots, let alone both).  But that's just a side note.  Anyways, previously I had the Arco-Flagellents in a Rhino and that worked like clockwork but  out on their own...  mm....

The original thought was to use them to counter charge and it sounds good when you say it; but you almost end up feeling like you'd have been better off using them as a red herring to lift some shooting off of the other units.  At that point you'd prefer something heartier or just flat cheaper.

I'm not certain what to do about that, yet.

One thought I also had was that the Seraphim were used as Deep Strikers in all my games.  It might have been just as good an idea to have them deployed against aggressive forces like the Genestealers.  After all, they have fly and don't share the trouble of getting locked with the Gene Stealers, and they can do what Kroot Mercenaries do for my army T'au Empire army:  screen and die, leaving the enemy to stare at my gun barrels en masse.  In which case, more gun barrels seem advisable (which was what I had before I added the Arco-Flagellents!).

Giving up "killed more" for turn one might be an acceptable price in return for blasting the threat to size and De-fanging it.  I mean at the end of the day its just 1 point, but it might SAVE me a whole lot of points or make me a whole lot of points...

Bottom line:  this worked very well in general and I'm actually looking forward to playing it more.  I tabled the first opponent 39-12 (Imperial Knights and Deathwatch), lost 38-11 (GeneStealer Cult+Tyranids) and then won 35-19 (Deathwatch, Dark Angels and Space Wolves, really interesting list which played REALLY well and was sort of tailor made to tear me apart and illustrated to me the vast difference that Bolter beta rule makes...).

Played the list at 1800 points against Blood Angels today.  LeMartes is pretty good!  He brought Primaris and regular troopers and scouts, so a lot of Obsec.  His Thundering LasCannon Predator and Hell Blasters formed a firebase with the Vindicare, and the Death Company and characters readied to spear my backfield and ruin my Exorcists day.

He went first and advanced.  I responded by killing his Librarian Dread.

He brought his front forward and dropped in thr Death Company, killing the Pink ladies squad outright, while Mephiston slammed into Green Squad midboardand took four out.  Inceptors dropped in and cooked a bunch of blue squad down south.

Celestine Wiped a character. brought another termie captain to 1 wound and killed two Space Marines near Mephiston while Battle Sisters advanced and fired behind her, taking out all but 1 of the Tactical Marines Celestine chopped up but leaving thee survivor free of the combat.  Blue and Red squad somehow managed in unison not to do a single wound to the inceptors.  Seraphim alighted in his backfield and did a wound to the assassin, then 5 of them lost two Seraphim sisters charging the Lascannon Predator to shut it up.His snipers again tried to fire down on the Warlord Mistress of Repentance and put a wound on the Mistress of Repentence, but the rout was on.  Celestine and her two Canonesses aswell as the swarming Yellow and Green Squads dominated the middle while the Seraphim endured and eventually hunted the Vindicare dead while keeping the Predator busy.

By games end, Lemartes had squashed Purple Squad deep inside my deployment zone who had been assigned guard duty in the Exorcists and LeMartes was battling it out with an Exorcist tank.  His scouts held on desperately in combat with the Seraphim in his backfield, whose pistols were ebbing their strength.  The Predator with 3 wounds was left begging for its life but unable to escape the enwrapping Seraphim.

Key things in this game were that the Vanguard deployment forced him to both go first and deal with the longer journey to me.  He just didn't have the range to hurt me signficiantly enough,  and it wasn't like I was making any rolls, so he kinda had his way with me when he was able to target me.  Final score was 27-14.

Thus far the Battle Sisters are 8-1 in this iteration.

Adepta Sororitas vs. Cawl led Adeptus Mechanicus

I YET AGAIN forgot to deep strike all three units of my Seraphim.  I cannot believe it.  I have forgotten this FAR too often and frankly, playing 200 points down is getting old.  I don’t know what makes me forget them but…

I chose Engineers, Head Hunter and Old School.  He chose Kingslayer, Butchers Bill and Ground Control.

Vanguard Deployment.

I  let him go first.  He had deployed conservatively back.  Even if he moved his Kastellan Robots they wouldn’t fire turn one, so I decided to make objectives easier on me.

He shuffled forward and his only shots were to hit Celestine for 2 wounds with his Snipers.

On my turn I cut loose with the Exorcists trying to get First Blood by killing a 3 man Custodes unit, but left one alive.  No dice.

Things got more interesting.  His Shield Captain, Banner bearer, and three more Custodes were advancing south along my right flank and the Champion made the mistake of becoming the closest target if I moved a couple of Exorcists.  His third Custodes unit deep struck onto the battlefield near the central objective, but out of sight.  This time the Kastellans ADVANCED forward to make certain they would have shots aplenty moving forward.  The Sisters of Battle could not escape their reach now.

This allowed me to try and pummel the Kastellans again on my turn with an Exorcists and I killed one, left another with just 2 wounds.  There were very disappointing rolls involved, and the killing blow got bounced back twice  at my tank, actually damaging the Exorcist w two mortal wounds instead of finishing the second one off!

My other exorcists took aim and fired on the Shield Captain, getting him down to 4 wounds.  Again disappointing performance!  Yellow Squad had come out of the building near the Shield Captain to fire as well with their meltaguns but to no avail whatsoever.

Meanwhile the Arco Flagellents advanced up from the bulding they were in and streaked in behind the Exorcist that tried to kill the Kastellans.  This got them closer to the center of the board with Uriah Jacobus…

Celestine, seeing her opportunity dashed to the center objective, giving her sisters more objectives (3) but now she was very much in the open, facing everything he had.

The bright side was that we did manage to kill the last Custodes unit we started on in round 1.  That gave us “Killed more”.

Celestine stood alone.  The entire Adeptus Mechanicus army and its Custodes guardians bore down on her position.  The entire army, practically, shot her to pieces, and she fell to the ground.  The Kastellans were the only unit that didn’t lay into her as they opened up their cannons and deleted Blue squad entirely!  Battle sisters died horribly, killing 18 of the 14!

…But like a Phoenix, Celestine rose again (rolled a 1 and then re-rolled it to save her).  The Custodes and their leader who deep struck in made the charge and started cutting Celestine down, doing 5 wounds.  Before their leader could strike, she interrupted for two command points and then used her Act of Faith to attack twice.  It wasn’t enough and he survived with one wound despite her fury.  He then leveled his weapon and cut her head off.

The Bike Captain charged an Exorcist and didn’t do much to it but did lock it up.

On my turn the Green Squad streaked towards the central objective behind cover.   The Arco-Flagellents followed suit behind the shadow of an Exorcist (again) that was forced to advance to get to the objective.  It now stood essentially where Celestine had been in the middle of the board facing an entire army of firepower, green squad right beside it and Arco’s trailing.

The Yellow Squad shot at the Bike Captain, after the Exorcist it was engaged with pulled out.  Three meltas using the Act of Faith to hit on 2’s:  nothing.  The Exorcists that could fire tried to kill the Kastellan Robots again, and both failed.  Again frustrating because I knew what that meant for my exposed Sisters of Battle.

The rest of the Battle Sisters from Purple, Pink and Red squads mustered forward and took shots at the Bike Captain, from their rearguard position, but it wasn’t enough either.

Desperate to get something from all this, The Canoness brashly attacked the Shield Captain, brandishing aloft her Eviscerator.  She used the Act of oFaith to fight twice…and still only inflicted 1 wound., then died.  This guy was unkillable.  We killed nothing!

As before the entire Adeptus Mechanicus army fired its load, this time into the Exorcist that held the center objective, moving up to charge it if need be.  The tanks hull is remarkably resilient and it had 2 Wounds left when the shooting cleared.  The Kastellans and some other Ranger dropped all but the three Meltaguns in Yellow Squad, dropped all but one of Green Squad.  It was devastating.

Two units of skitarii and the Custodes that had slain Celestine charged the tank with the Shield Captains help.  T8 helped it survive with one wound left!  I used Command Points to auto-pass the morale test on yellow Squad and used a Faith Point to auto pass green Squads morale, which meant he had actually killed nothing despite the extreme efficacy of his weapons.

On my turn, I used an Act of Faith to resurrect another of green Squads melta wielding companions, and they pushed towards the Kastellan Robots, firing.  They failed to take out the one with 2 wounds.  Le sigh.

The Yellow Squad with its mere three meltaguns moved and tried to kill the Shield Captain using their Act of Faith to hit on2’s.  .  Nothing.  Unfreaking killable.

Pink and Red Squad moved forward to add fire on the Shield Captain and also did nothing and their meltas were too far away to be a threat. Yet.

All of this enfuriated Uriah Jacobus.  He send his Arco-Flagellents forward after the Exorcist limped out of his way and they tore the entire group holding the center objective to pieces!  The ShieldCaptain was unphased.

The kastellans unleashed with the rest of the armies and snipers in retribution.  Yellow and Green Squad disappeared predictably, and there were really no other targets other than the Arco-Flagellents and uriah Jacobus in the middle to shoot.

Secondaries made the game clearly out of reach however.  With secondary Scores, the Sisters of Battle help a decided 27-12 advantage and there was little that the remaining forces could do to make up those points.  The Adeptus mechanicus conceded, their shield Captain and remaining Vanguard took the two Kastellans and Cawl to seek other battlefields.

Overall the game was brutal.  The Adeptus Mechanicus firepower and fortitude were definitely on display.  When he pointed at something it mostly died spectacularly with the exception of the Exorcists which took quite the beating.

Had we played it out he probably would have slaughtered my wounded Exorcist, Arcos and Uriah in the following round and he probably wouldn’t have held more, but would have killed more for sure.

Battle Sisters victory 27-12

  • 1 month later...

Managed to get another game in with the Adepta Sororitas.  This time it was a smaller battle, at 1170 points or so, so a shorter contest.

He deployed first and he got first turn.  We played on the Quadrants deployment.  I cut out the Seraphim and tanks as well as a couple Sisters units to get it down to size.

1

He went first and advanced his army up through the middle and my forces were out,of reach but easily within charge distance after his turn one.  He moved the Damon Prince to my left flank to disallow Celestine from getting the jump on him and settign up his turn two charge perfectly.  His Blood Crushers swooped on my right flank and used a building to hide himself from view in preparation for their charges.  As I had chosen to be quite close to my deployment vertex, it would get bloody soon.  40 Khornate Daemons faced the firing line, hissing and spitting vile curses.  The Skull Cannons belched death, killing members of Yellow Squad i nthe bank ranks and testing their leadership capabilities to stand fast.

Canoness F'lell, Uriah jacobus, the Mistress of Pain and the Dialogus were centered to the fore and Celestine leapt forward, intent on killing the Skulltaker hiding behind the central LOS blocker which she did, bypassing the Khornate deamons to bring her wrath to the leadership, the very fate the Daemon Prince had hoped to avoid.  ALL my Acts of Faith failed.  This was not optimal.

The Sisters of Battle shifted left, while the Arco-Flagellents moved out of hiding and behind all of them.  A dialogus advanced backwards to hold an objective but could not move fast enough.  All the bolters fired into the two large units, killing most of the 40 Khornate daemons.  On the far left the Teal Squad rushed in and finished the leftmost daemon squad in a blizzard of rifle butts.  The first turn was over with Teal Squad well up the field thanks to their successful charge but standing right next to a Daemon Prince.  The last of the Khornate daemons ried to use their banner, with a re-roll, to pas and resurrect some of their number but it was not successful.

2

The Daemon Prince smashed into Celestine with the Herald of Khorne.  the Skull Cannons fired and took out more members of Yellow Squad, and forced another to fail their leadership and run.  Then one of the Skull Cannons crashed into Teal squad to stop them from getting past, to the objective.  The blood Crushers winged around the LOS blocker in the center and then flung themselves into Pink squad.  The Prince did 4 wounds to Celestine which was better than she deserved and i made the critical decision which created a hero.  I had used Heroic intervention to bring the Canoness into the fight with the relic blade of the Sisterhood.  She swung, with Uriah Jacobus to lend her conviction, hitting 5 and wounding 5!  They failed all saves and were obliterated in the blink of an eye.  The herald took the moment to drop Celestine in her tracks, dead.  She rolled a 1 to get back up so i re-rolled and made it on a 2.  More bad luck but at least it worked.  Teal squad battered at the hull of the Skull Cannon but barely scratched it.

Celestine then jumped to attack the Skull cannon in the rear while Bolters pelted and killed killed the Daemon Prince.  Other bolters moved forward and slew the Skull Cannon that had charged Teal Squad and the field was left with just the one remaining skull cannon after the herald cuccumbed to the bolter storm.

Khorne conceded.  The MVP moment was most definitely the Canoness.  Without that event a lot more bolters would have been killed or tied up and much more damage done.

I used to have that problem, but then the site updated and now it's really easy to upload pictures. I don't really understand how it works, because ordo doesn't explain membership benefits well, but I think the, "Allows member to create and maintain a gallery on the Ordo forums," bit means that it's really easy to post and upload photos.

To add photos, phone or PC, I just hit the "choose files" link below the text bubble, and then select the files. I can also use copy and paste to put them in from other sites. Says my max file size is 511mb, which seems really high.

PS: your link just thanks me for verifying your email address.

To add photos, phone or PC, I just hit the "choose files" link below the text bubble, and then select the files. I can also use copy and paste to put them in from other sites. Says my max file size is 511mb, which seems really high.

PS: your link just thanks me for verifying your email address.

Yeah I can't figure it out.  I tried.  tells me I can only upload 1.88mb.  So whatevs.  Newer cameras just don't make em that small.

Did you pay for an ordo membership level? I suspect it's related to that. If it is related, really wish the Ordo Store would explain that when trying to sell membership levels.

On the phone end, I feel like there must be a way to get the camera to take lower resolution photos (or otherwise require less memory to store them).

Anyway, sorry it's not working out for you, and sorry to derail the thread. I was thinking this was an easy thing to fix, for some reason.

Money solves many problems of course.  😃  but no, I don't think I was ever offered any kind of premium thing, ever.  Or I just wan't looking.  Could be.  Could be...
