Hey, Ordo, nice to see you again!

It's been years since I dusted off my Blood Angels for some play. I went and bought the 8th edition book, and the BA Codex. I have a few beginner questions:

1) is there any place to play anymore in south King County? I think there is still one GW store left, the one in Kent?

2) are BA's any good in the current game? Does everything have to be allied detachments to be competitive or can a "pure" BA list do OK?

3) How critical are Command Points? How many would you expect to need at 1000 pts? 1750? 2000?

4) I think I can squeeze a brigade force org into 2000 pts if I minimize some squad sizes. Is that a strategy that people use these days to maximize CP's?

5) Any "must have" units or combinations? I read about something called the Slamguinius that looked amusing.

Carl (Rafi) has promised me a game in the near future for a practice run. We'll see how THAT turns out. What was that rule you were talking about? BS, that was 3rd edition. Cheater! Cheese master! Wham! Smack!

Thanks guys,

Kevin

KevinC! Holy hell, how ya been man?!

1) Dunno.

2) BA are considered one of the strongest SM chapters now, especially with the "smash captain" load out.

3) Command points are pretty important. Stratagems are the new hotness, and at 1000 pts you should be able to squeeze out at least 8. More than that at higher points if you can mess with your detachments.

4)With SM it's usually better to go double battalion, then try and get the brigade. Some of their slots are just sub optimal.

5) I'm not sure much on BA or SM in general, but the Slamguinius or Slam Captain is super powerful and popular with Imperial players all over.

Glad to see ya back in the nerd world man!

My issue with either the double battalion or the brigade load out is troops. With assault marines no longer troops for BA, and me not having any of the new Primaris marines, that means 6 squads of tactical marines. A lot of look-alike models, kinda boring. I'll mess around with some more theory-hammer lists and such in the next week or so before I try putting something on a board somewhere.

Scouts are where it's at for troops too. They're cheap, flexible, and same offensive shooting as tacticals.

I have always hated scouts in BA armies, because of the Death Company spam factor back in 4th edition. I pretty much eliminated scouts from my collection. Sounds like, if I want to play competitively, I'm going to need to buy and paint some new models. That's kind of sad, considering I have something like 15,000 points of fully painted Blood Angels.

Not too far, when are you having these get togethers? I would love to come and play one of these days. I would also love to get my tufts back. I was basing a couple of models this weekend, ones that I painted something like 6 years ago and haven't touched since (baby steps toward getting back into it) and I was looking for tufts. I had no idea I had left them at your place! That was the last time I had an army on a board, that day at your place.

I'm doing every Friday night until our local shop finds a new home (Their building had burst pipes and flooded).  Other than that, I'm going to do a once a month , Saturday 40k games day at the house.

As to 8th edition, it is, in my not so humble opinion, the best edition of 40k ever.  Its smoother, more player friendly in terms of roster creation, the divide between competitive and non competitive is much smaller IMO (at least from list building).  I've found it to be great!
