McNathanson
I don't have my 8th ed BRB handy; can someone more versed in 8th ed. tell me how it works now if a character or unit has a Great Weapon and a Shield? It used to be "choose at start of combat which you're using" but I'm wondering whether that has changed...
Brother Glacius
weapons override. So if you have a GW, you can't use shield in CC ever. Only against shooting.

MexicanNinja
NtK, unless there is a specific entry for the model/unit which states they are able to chose which weapon style they use in CC, the GW overrides the shield in melee. However, you'd still get the +1 AS against shooting.

generalripphook
Heres a good guestion, what if a ranged weapon hits a unit in melee that has shields and great weapons, does it still get the +1 armor save?

Range weapons can't target units in melee unless it is a template weapon that scatters onto them. But yes they will get the armor bonus since the attack did not come from a melee weapon and they are not using their Great Swords in the shooting phase.
