Ordo Fanaticus Club Challenge 2020 Head of Gaming Submissions

Recommended Posts

!!Attention all Ordoites!! The Senate of Ordo Fanaticus offers to you one of the best opportunities of the year to put on the best wargaming event of 2020:

No, this is not your run of the mill tournament. This is not a one day GT. This is not a tournament held at a convention. This is OFCC. It is an event we, the Senate, treasure enough to host each year. We do it to celebrate YOU, the Ordo Fanaticus Clubs and Communities. We want to repay you for all that you do for everyone else here on the boards, at your local gaming stores, and the spirit you bring with you to all of your games.

OFCC is hosted by Ordo Fanaticus. We reserve 14,000 sqft of glorious, beautiful gaming space at the Hilton in downtown Vancouver for 3 days of gaming. We fill it with tournaments and gaming events run by individuals of the community. We call these people Heads of Gaming or HoGs. This post is our way to solicit you for submissions to be a HoG at the next OFCC, running July 24, 2020, through July 26, 2020.

If you want to be a HoG, send a submission with the following criteria to me via PM. We want a number of different gaming systems and events going on all weekend. Please, contact us, and let us know your idea. Even if you do not have all the details, put as much as you can into a submission and we can work with you to see how we can include it at OFCC. Never run an event before and you have motivation and an idea?? Perfect! Contact @DisruptiveConduct, @ninefinger, or @Burk and we can help you make your event a reality.

Your admissions should be in this format (we even fill out some of it for you).

o   What: <Event Title>

o   When: OFCC 2020, a specific day or days for July 24 thru July 26

o   Where: The Hilton in Downtown Vancouver

o   Why: Because we want to game!

o   Number of Players (min/max):

o   Number of Days: One, two, or even three day events can be considered

o   Event Style: GT, Round Robin, Swiss pairings, etc. Go into as much detail as possible if there is no standard to compare to.

o   Budget: Monetary costs for tournament supplies, printing costs, awards, trophies, etc.

o   Missions and Scenarios: Get creative with it!

o   Point Value:

o   Scoring: We want to invite you to do scoring as you see fit with one of caveat: Sportsmanship is REQUIRED. We focus on Sportsmanship more than winning and want to celebrate all aspects of the hobby including generalship and painting.

o   Achievements and Awards: Extra things for your players to add fun and dynamic new twists.

Your proposal should include a brief summary of your vision for the event and why you wish to be Head of Gaming.

If selected, you will work with the Campaign Czar (that’s me, @DisruptiveConduct) and others on the Senate in designing, organizing, and running the event. As an OFCC event, you may be required to make changes based on the needs of the event and to maintain the spirit of the event. This is especially true for our usual premiere events, like the Team 40k 2 day. Due to the potentially high number of projected participants, the HoGs for those systems should be prepared to be flexible with their proposal.

The last day to submit for HoG is Feb 9, 2020. The final selections for HoGs will be made by February 28, 2020. Please start drafting your submissions as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to @DisruptiveConduct, @ninefinger, or @Burk. We are all available to help make your gaming dreams a reality!

I’ve had a rough idea in my head for an OFCC event, but still have some planning to do to make it final. But had a logistical question about the event space for @ninefinger or @Burk: Do we have access to the event space for the entire three days?

I was thinking of running a “24 Heures du Mans“ type race of Gaslands. Where players would play an endurance version of Gaslands for twenty-four hours. I’m still brainstorming exactly how it would work — I’m thinking four to dice teams of 2-3 players who would be allowed to “swap out drivers” during the event and maybe make it a “pledge drive” type race where people would pledge to donate $1 a lap or something to a charity like Child’s Play... That sort of thing.

Anyhow, those sort of details can be worked out later. If we can’t be in the event hall for 24 hours, then we can’t do it at all.

This is not for an OFCC HOG request, but I'm planning to run a 'Road to OFCC' style 40k escalation league. Right now I'm leaning on a March-April run at the club, ending with a Saturday ITC tournament of the final points size of the escalation league (i.e. 1500, or 1750). I'm thinking 6-8 weeks. Last year was 8 weeks and worked pretty well.

The idea here is to allow folks to prepare for OFCC this year in advance, while learning their armies. Maybe even bring in some new teams.

Robyn has suggested we loop in local game stores. I'll be able to provide missions and scoring mechanisms, they'd just need a champion who's willing to take attendance and enter scoring. Right now she thought Fate and Fury might be one of those options, others could be too. I'm considering starting at 750 first 2 weeks and do doubles, as 500 point games aren't that fun. However, first week people should bring a list for both 500 and 750, in case anyone truly escalates and wants a 500pt game.

From there thinking 500/750, 750, 1k, 1k, 1250, 1250, 1500, 1750. Could also do a 6 week and remove a 1250 and 1k.
