Brick Bungalow
The vanguard move is described as a free 12" that happens before the game phase begins. Irrelevant of the units move characteristic. Do fast cavalry get 12" move like a normal unit or do they get a 12" fast cavalry move?
MexicanNinja
They get a free 12" move and gain the benefits from being fast cav. You can reposition them anyway you like as long as no model moves more than 12". Also remember, since it's not a march move you could position them in a forest and not take dangerous terrain checks. This could also be used to cross a river that would otherwise take 2 turns to get through. I love my dark elf army because of the 4 units with fast cav. It's great for feigning deployment and the ability to start harrassing war machines turn 1 is amazing.
Raindog
To be clear, if the unit has vanguard and not fast cavalry or a skirmishing ability like Chaos Warhounds, they cannot move like fast cavalry. They can make a normal move up to 12 inches.
Brick Bungalow
So the unit gets a 12" free move according to whatever stipulations apply to its normal move?
