The Bellingham Warhamsters Present:

'Ham Slamwich 2014

What: A 1-day Warhammer Fantasy tournament, and a qualifier for the NW Masters

When: Saturday 11/22/14, 10am check-in

Where: Dark Tower Games, 1431 Railroad Ave, Bellingham, WA

Size: 2500 points

Participants: We’re limiting this to 30 participants

For those of you who have been to Warhamster events before, you know what to expect. For those that haven't, we aim to create a relaxed, inclusive environment where being a good general doesn't mean you have to throw sportsmanship out the window. Leave any win at all cost attitude at home, and come prepared to play hard and have fun. Next door to a pub, plenty of good food and drink in easy walking distance. The schedule has been specifically structured to allow for plenty of time to eat, drink, and socialize.

How to Register:

  • Send $20 via Paypal to bellinghamwarhamsters@gmail.com . When you send your payment, please indicate the following information:
    • Player name
    • Club name (so we can avoid matching up folks from the same club for the first round)
    • Preferred email address
    • Phone Number
    • The army book you plan on using (if you end up changing your mind and switching armies, no worries
  • Pay a Warhamster in person (providing the above information on a sheet of paper to be passed along to Joey or Jim with the payment)
  • An updated list of paid participants (and likely army) will be kept here: [include url link]

Army Selection:

  • 2500 points
  • Army lists must be submitted to the TOs 3 weeks prior to the event. Players who fail to do so will not be eligible for prize draws and may be dropped from the tournament. We’ll send a reminder e-mail out to folks before lists are due.
  • The armies allowed are those from any of the currently published GW Army books and Chaos Dwarves' The Legion of Azgorh from Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos. Any other Forge World based army lists or units may not be used on the event.
  • Special or Named Characters are not allowed
  • Folding Fortress is not allowed
  • Closed army lists – So you do not have to disclose magic items, big names, virtues, bloodline powers etc (i.e. character non mundane equipment) before the game. All unit upgrades should be disclosed clearly before the game.
  • Magic users must have their lore choice noted on their army list entry.
  • This event is using the Swedish Composition System. A link to the most recent version of the Swedish Composition System can be found here.: http://swfbr.ipbhost...?showtopic=4494
    • All armies must have a Swedish Comp Score of 5 or higher.
    • First round pairings will be done on the basis of Comp Scores.
    • For each match, the difference in Comp Scores (multiplied by 100) will be awarded to the player with the highest Comp Score as bonus VPs. For example, in a game where an 8 army is matched against a 10 army, the player of the 10 army will begin the match with 200 VPs

Games:

  • The tournament will consist of three 2.5 hour rounds.
  • Scenarios will be posted 1 month in advance of the tournament.
  • All scenarios will use [THE STANDARD DEPLOYMENT THINGEE]
  • At the end of each round players will calculate victory points (page 143). The players then use the following table to determine the Battle Points received by each player.

VP Diff             Win      Loss

0-150               10        10

Looking good. As far as the red points,

• I don't think a blanket ban on special characters is needed since they are included in swedish comp.

• I prefer open lists but either way is fine.

• I'm in favor of the half points for units at half strength or fleeing though.

• Standard deployment thingees are good.

• I doubt anyone would bring a folding fortress anyway,  it's comped pretty heavily in swedish comp and it introduces problems as far as terrain setup so not allowing it makes sense to me.

-Some may take issue with half points for fleeing units. Just something to consider. I am in favor of it however. I also think that in terms of characters maybe award half points for characters if they are riding a monstrous mount and the either the character or the mount is slain.

-In general I enjoy closed lists as it makes sense that not everyone would have a random ultra mega artificer on hand that can say "Oh that is Zorkblort's Magnificent Dingledongle! It makes your eyes explode if he turns it a quarter turn left and then 73 degrees to the right!" That said I wonder if open list may be a bit more conducive to a tournament setting.

-I like standard deployment types. Don't want to do anything too fancy to throw a wrench in the works.

- I am kind of with Andy in that it may be unnecessary to ban SCs due to the comp already hitting them. That said, many people may not enjoy SCs due to not knowing their capabilities.

- Also have we decided against allowing Monstrous Arcanum and other non army book monsters? Is this due to Swedish comp having no score for those items? I like the idea of including them but It could be more complicated than it needs to be otherwise.

You gonna actually play Fantasy, Corey? Hmmm... Given the special characters are covered in Swedish, I'm down with including them.

Monstrous Arcanum and Storm of Magic aren't in Swedish, and they vary TONS in power. Some are useless. Some are death incarnate. Makes it had to include them.

If we decided to do closed list, we'd want folks to have two copies of their army list. One with magical gubagoos listed, one without. The opponent is given a copy of the one without before the game and the one without after the game. Any shenanigans result in the offending party being disqualified from awards? Just a thought.

So, if we're talking 1/2 points, the options are:

* 1/2 points for units at or below half starting strength

* 1/2 points for units fleeing at end of game (doesn't stack with above)

* Points for characters and ridden monsters calculated separately

But it sounds like we should poll for that. OK to post the basics for the tournament (without the scoring stuff?).

I like it so far.

I am strongly in favor for closed lists, they provide a tactical challenge and can make things more of a mind [big bad swear word] for opponents. There are also several abilities and spells that become useless with open lists.

The special characters is difficult, I personally really like the idea of no special characters but I have always hated them.

the half points for fleeing units and units below half starting value I think will work. I have heard of tournaments on the east coast doing similar things.

Reason you don't see me playing is this opinion of no special characters... I like all night gobos and Skarsnik gives me a mighty ld 8(maybe nine been a long time). The issue came from odd base sizes and not being able to use an orc...

With specials allowed I'll calculate my comp tonight while waiting for paint to dry and let you know how serious I am

Well, got kinda excited worked up the comp... 13 points! Yay I like the way that sounds so as long as I get to play Skarsnik I'll be happy... Checking the date now tho that is close to Thanksgiving which is big travel for me...

Looks like I need to paint two mangler squigs, make sure my book is the current one, and relearn this game...

Hey JIM! If you're playing in this I WILL BE THERE AND I'M BRINGING HELL WITH ME! (or at least members of Chop! and WCP).

Not sure if I get to play (it would have to be Warriors, because my Woodies aren't even close to being updated), but Canadian Hell is a brand of Hell I can manage! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Thirteen spots left, folks! I'm currently in the process of convincing Joey that each of the scenarios needs to be written in both Warhammer and Boozehammer variants. We can't boozehammer at DTG, but that doesn't mean the scenarios can't be written with that in mind.

Sherbert, Grayson, Munkie, are you in? You're in, right?
