von hammer
Just thought it would be fun, not too competitive but oh well.
pretre
Heh. Looks look like it'll be fun! One thing though, you need a CAD for the Open. So you'll have to find a way to get that SW detachment to fit into a CAD. Take the Stormwolf as a Dedicated transport for 5 Bloodclaws and find some points to take another minimum sized squad of GH or BC.
generalripphook
Ah man I thought this was gonna be a Craigslist personal ad with its title. Darn

Hmmm... the way I read the Company of the Great Wolf Detachment is that the detactment rules were CAD just that the 1 HQ/2 Troops requirement changed to 1 HQ/2 Elites. If I wanted to take a formation from that book I would understand your thoughts.
VonVilkee
The great company is a detachment. A CAD is a detachment. A great company is not a CAD. I'm surprised that the open is requiring a CAD and not just battleforged but then again I'm not participating because of the newness of the edition combined with ordo restrictions, not that they are a bad thing it is just to much for me to keep track of along with captaining a club challenge team... von hammer
Grrrrr..... Annnnd of coarse, no faq available for either BRB or supplement.
VonVilkee
No faq needed. Ordo made a ruling that is different from what GW is doing. Page 120 base rule book discusses detachments and making a battle forged army. Page 122 has "core detachments" allowed to everybody. Per pretre above ordo said take a CAD not take any detachment, or make a battleforged army.
pretre
Right. Ando is very clear in his requirements which are specifically not just battleforged. As I said, easiest way to get what you want is to get a minimum CAD from SW. Take 5 BC to put in the Stormwolf. Take 5 more BC and hide them somewhere. 120 points.
Brother Glacius
See this here? this is all confusing. So you can't just take a straight list to the open? You have to have a CAD? or is it you can't take allies unless they are a CAD? can you just play 40K as an option? :)

andozane
As other's pointed out, correct, the way I have written the Open a CAD is required. Thanks...
CaptainA
See this here? this is all confusing. So you can't just take a straight list to the open? You have to have a CAD? or is it you can't take allies unless they are a CAD? can you just play 40K as an option? :) The biggest problem with this is that there is no "straight list" in any game of 40k. You have to have a gentleman's conversation about the nature of the kind of game you are playing: Narrative, Unbound, CAD, Apocalypse, or whatever as everything goes now. Tournament Organizers have a hard time to set the tone for the event, working to exclude or tone down the most abusive elements of the game to make things as a whole more palpable for everyone. The rules shown above are the TO's gentlemens convorsation for all of us since we can't really do that at a tournament.
VonVilkee
I like that the open frame work actually does a better job of forcing the conversations that should have been taking place already! All the way back... Tournements have always had restrictions and things. The new formatting actually brings this conversation up naturally during game setup which is nice. pretre
This convo did a great job distracting from the usual OMG LIST RATING conversations this year.
von hammer
Yep! And I figured out how to run a similar list anyways. ;)
