HeroZero
This will be my VC Blog for the escalation league until OFCC 2015. The theme I am going for is "The Decay of Civilization" I love the strigoi background and ghoul kings and barrow lords are awesome. The army I played week one Richter Metzger Vampire Mounted on Hellsteed Lance, Heavy armor Enchanted shield, Talisman of Protection Lore of Vampires level one Quickblood, Aspect of Dread Knight 24 Crypt ghouls "the purple people eaters" +champion 6 Crypt Horrors "The Blood Leeches" + Champion Varghulf "The Fallen" I had a blast week one. Many lol moments were had. Vampires losing combat to Skaven slaves (not from CR) Miscasts benefitting the army more than it reasonably should. Super charged doom wheels. Failed 4 inch charges. Raindog being unfair and bringing a bow to a fight... Thanks all.
MexicanNinja
Oh man, I'm glad you're coming to WoW for game night on Sunday's. Hopefully I'll see you next week. It sounds like we have an even better showing for this years escalation than last year. Best of luck to you with the Vamps.

MexicanNinja
Are you planning on using a ghoul king at some point?
HeroZero
Well at 1000 points its a bit rough to fit a 260 point base lord in a game. But yes at some point I will field a strigoi lord
MexicanNinja
Which is why I stated "at some point". Are you going to attend the rampage? If so, are you going to try and get the Strigoi into that list?
HeroZero
Yes for the rampage I will have one. You think I shouldnt?
MexicanNinja
F to the NO! You should definitely run that bad mamajama. I think the ghoul king is amazing and his points are well justified. It's a shame you don't see him more often. Before I traded the vamps for your dark elves I was going to put him on a terrorghiest with the sword that lets him scream as well.

MexicanNinja
I actually really like it. Nothing over the top, no knights, no blender lord, and lots of options.
HeroZero
Thanks MN. Surprisingly it comps like crap!
HeroZero
I count an 18? Anyone want to check my maths?
MexicanNinja
I would suggest you try running the vargheists like you have them and as a unit of 6. When I test played them, the results I got with only running 3 wasn't that great.
HeroZero
Can you elaborate on that please? Is like to know, also that's a ten point refund for me and oh god. I'd have to redo units lol.
MexicanNinja
So, they lack a save and will take incomming shooting prior to getting into combat. They hit hard but die just as fast. When I played only using 3 of them, they would kill a unit then get shot and after that I really had to be careful with them. If you had a unit of 6 you could lose a model or two from shooting/magic and still pack a very good punch in combat. On the other hand, you may play them completely different from me. I just ran them up the flank on their own and so they were mostly unsupported.
AgentP
Personally, for units similar in function and use to Vargheists I find four to be a good unit size.
HeroZero
I plan on using them in combo charges with lord/varghulfs, or wolves. But you're probably right that six maybe a bit better.

Yeah, I got that, but they're not charging until at least turn 2. They're only T4, and if they fail a LD test for frenzy can be baiting away. HeroZero
Very true. That's why I was running two units also, if I got baited I don't lose 100% of the unit to them frenzy failing. I think both ideas have merit and deserve to be tested.

I do like the models. In fact, one of the scariest VC lists I watched in a betrep had a horde of 18 run straight up the gut and nothing was able to stop it. HeroZero
Oh my. I thought the crypt horrors horde with triple mortis engine was bad... (2+ regen FTW) But a flying skirmishing horde? F that noise. The models are gorgeous.
Drak
I think Mortis caps the regen at 4+
HeroZero
It does how about that... Because 55 str 4 poison attacks, with a 4+ regeneration isn't enough? One ASF spell just makes it too much.
