HeroZero
So I've been thinking....I want a dragon. In the last twenty years I've never once brought a dragon. It's about time I corrected my mistake. Can I field a legit zombie dragon lord at 2400? At minimum I want charmed shield/ Talisman of protection. Hmm. I want input on fielding the zombie dragon. Please chime in.
rudra34
HZ! I was insanely busy this week and missed all of the hints that you needed a ride to portland for gaming. If you need a ride next week, I will happily take you down.
HeroZero
Ite okay, I had the hare from the old times going on my guts so it would not have been awesome anyway. So about this dragon....
MexicanNinja
Zombie dragons are "meh" I'd ask drak though, he's run one. I've run a supremse sorceress and a dreadlord on a dragon with great success but I also had a ton of other target priorities on the table. It's a learning curve. You really have to pick and choose your matches. Sometimes you won't see combat until turn 4 or 5. It's a great tool, just hard to use at first. Terrain is your best friend for BS shooting and line of sight blocking terrain is your best friend for cannons. The build I used for my dreadlord was Ogre blade Talisman of Protection ToTs I liked the build as it gave me 10 S6 attacks followed by D6 thunder stomps at S6 and against models with a ward save it forced them to re-roll them. I was able to generate a ton of combat res through that build. Now add in the vampire powers you have (negatives to fear checks and other perks) you could have a tough cookie on the table. HeroZero
Zombie Dragons I get aren't nearly as effective as they should be, and cost a ridiculous amount I just thought it could be a fun centerpiece model
MexicanNinja
Zombie Dragons I get aren't nearly as effective as they should be, and cost a ridiculous amount I just thought it could be a fun centerpiece model I'm not saying don't take it. I'm saying try it out. Give it three games. I always give a new model or unit 3 games to test out before I can them or keep them. Best of three has been a great tool for my units in my armies. You could borrow my black dragon to test it out at game night (if you don't have a dragon). Like lastnight, I played 3 games using gnoblar trappers and I hate them and won't use them again. They caused me more problems and just gave up 50 points every game with no return.
HeroZero
I use best of 5 myself. I hear you on gnoblars. They just don't earn points as trappers. Regular 20 man blocks at least provide cheap ranks. If you want to find the WTF unit ... Big sabretusk packs decimate all. Proxy a few with wolves you will see. I've even thought of running a full unit of 10 with a Hunter. That's a lot of hurt!
HeroZero
That's how I Ran them. Longstriding hunters and tusks are so good my pants tighten thinking of such things.
Drak
I love my zombie dragon lord. :) at low points he's vulnerable and more of a show piece. usually stuck as a lv 1 lore of vamps (hope for van hels for the rerolls as you won't have points for quickblood and the model REALLY needs to be able to generate CR). charmed shield, terrain, and strategic placement are crucial as anyone with a canon it a few shots away from toastin most of your army (freakin crumble.....grrrr). even going basic build at low levels (lance/gw, charmed shield, ToP, OTS, lv 1, couple vampiric powers) he gets expensive. I've found it better to kit him out using the full 25% allotment for survival mitigates some of the risk. I'm all about dragons, my teammates can attest to my wanting all armies to field a dragon of some sort, they aren't just plain cool :) and easily customizable. DRAGONS!!!! do it!
