Bolt Action list building

Working on my first list for a sample game of BA and im not really sure what would be a good point level to go with.

 Im pretty much done assembling the Normandy Starter US troops and I built them as follows;

  3- SMG for HQ`s and SL`s

  2-BAR

  1-Medic

  1-Sniper

  1- Bazooka with one loader

The remainder are mostly Garands with a few Springfields mixed in.

I also have the US army Bundle that comes with the Shermie,M3 HT,Mortar Team and HMG team along with another batch of Inf.

Im thinking for a sample 500 point game I would use an 2nd LT with an additional troop then  a couple off 7-9 man inf Squads with a BAR in each one and a Thompson SL, finish it off with a stock M4 Sherman. Is this a good enough mix to see how the main game mechanics play?

I was also considering maybe trying 750 and bringing in the Mortar team and maybe another inf Squad and maybe a 50cal team or 30 cal team.Or run the M3 with a squad loaded and see how troop transports workout.

 Any tips?

If you are trying to get the game mechanics down, i would skip the tanks for the first game (and, consequently, the bazooka). Figure out the way infantry (and snipers and mortars) work your first game and then throw in a tank for your second game.

At 500 points a tank is an uber weapon. So, if both players have a tank, it usually comes down to whoever kills the other guy's tank first is going to roll through the rest of the army. Not much fun and not much good for learning anything strategy wise.

1000 points us the common point level for most games.

We have a large bolt Action community at dice age. You should check it out.

A good starting point for a US force looks not dissimilar from this outline.

HQ

Second Lieutenant with Aide (regular)

Forward Air Observer (Regular)

10 Regular Infantry, BAR, SMG

10 Regular Infantry, BAR, SMG

10 Regular Infantry, BAR, SMG

Heavy Mortar Team (Inexperienced)

Medium Machin Gun Team (Regular)

Medium Machine Gun Team (Regular)

Sherman with HMG (veteran)

M3 Halftrack with HMG (veteran)

Cool!..With the US Army Bundle I have that should be no problem and looks like a great list to build on.

I plan to try and get to Dice Age in December and check it out.Between Dice Age and Jesse`s GG session each month its looking like there will be good opportunities for some regular Bolt Action play

Finally started assembly on the Sherman that came with the US Army bundle. Its the resin one and it sucks pretty bad,I can see its durable and all that but sheese!those treads are terrible.

I should have done the plastic kit I have first, heh.

I just ordered the MG teams and an HQ team from WG so it shouldn't be too much longer before im ready for another game session, either the next Games day at GG or head up the freeway to Dice Age:)
