As I recall, laser destroyers are better for AT than the stock lascannons, but get less shots, so they're iffy against tanks with saves. They do have more range, though that doesn't really matter if the point of the tank is a troop transport, like the LR spartan, especially if intended for normal games on a 6'x4'.
