Okay, so silly themed list. Going for Krakenbeard's Great Hunt

CotGW Detachment

Harald Deathwolf with 2 Fenrisian Wolves - 206

Iron Priest with TWM and 4 Cyber - 165

Iron Priest with TWM and 4 Cyber - 165

6 Thunderwolf Cavalry. Pack Leader with WC/SS, 2 SS/CCW, 2 BP/CCW, 1 PF/BP - 330

Grimnar's War Council

Ulrik - 145

Njal - 180

Rune Priest. Bike, ML2 - 110

Iron Priest with TWM and 4 Cyber - 165

Librarius Conclave (Iron Hands?)

Librarian with ML2 and Bike - 105

Librarian with ML2 and Bike - 105

Librarian with ML2 and Bike - 105

Librarian with ML2 and Bike - 105

Librarian with ML2 and Bike - 105

Points should be right and puts me at 1991

Join everyone into one big unit. GWC gives me rerolls on first turn and +2 to seize. Librarius gives me Invis (hopefully) on a 2+ with reroll from Tigurius. About 16 WC to throw around. Unit has Furious Charge, FNP 6+ (5+ for Iron Hand Libs), Preferred Enemy, Fearless and whatever buffs I can throw at it from other psychic. Njal and Ulrik slow it down a bit, but oh well.

Big unit is

6 TWC

4 TWC Characters

2 Fenrisian Wolves

12 Cyberwolves

6 Bike Casters

2 Walking Dudes

It's a go big or go home, silly army. I'd need to make 6 Librarian/Rune Priests on bikes and another Iron Priest to field it.

If I wanted to give up GWC and go all fast, I could drop GWC and a fenrisian wolf to take Logan on Stormrider, an Iron Priest with TWM and Cyber x4 and a Wolf Priest on a bike. 1998.

I'm now rethinking attending.

Serious?

It's a big blob of models without hit and run. Charge it with wraiths and laugh as I'm stuck in combat for 3 turns.

It's intentionally one-dimensional for this event.

If you really think it's too much though, I can try something else. The Logan version is even worse (meaning not as good) since it can't guarantee first turn. I mean what make it OTT?

What you and everyone else think is fun is never going to be the same.

When this was advertised as a fun fluffy tournament I immediately want to play my single CAD Guard infantry company. Fluffy lists are no longer what they used to be (IMHO,) that's just 7th edition. So I don't need to bother getting whooped on for a day.

Dude. Just because you don't like my first list doesn't mean that you shouldn't go. I am certainly not representative of the community as a whole. And, contrary to the internet, I'm still a good guy to play even when I win. At least I rarely have complaints. Feel free to poll those who have played me though as they know better.

The main things when building a fun list is "Is my opponent gonna have fun playing against this" and also "If i was playing a different army would i wanna face this and have a good game against it. Think of it as a chance to try out units that are complete crud in normal competitive games that have been sitting not he shelf for years, or think of it as a chance to play a really bad army and try and win with it and test your skills.

Some examples of last years armies were:

Random Eldar army with no bikes, no seers and 1 wraith knight.

Ultramarine army with Tac, Dev, Ass, and Termi squads and a commander and 1 dread.

Ork Horde Army with no trukks or mek

Honestly i don't go through anyones lists to see if they are OP. The winner of the event is not the one who wins all their games. Far from it. If you go out of your way to making it a fun day for everyone and bring a non standard fluffball list you are doing it right! :)

CAD Guard list sounds great! Bring it along! :) You will have some fun with some of the scenarios planned! :)

IMO, the first list does this. I can not roll for Invis if I think my opponent can't handle it, but largely they are going to crunch up against my big choppy bits and probably table me because I have so few models at 2000 points. Even 2000 points of single CAD guard are going to make me pretty unhappy. With the ITC nerf, Invis doesn't stop guard from dropping a crud load of blasts on top of me kicking the living crap out of my blob.

Still, if people don't like it and don't want to play it, I won't bring it.

As an aside, with the new books and/or with this format, these are all pretty strong and probably a worse matchup than my list.

Oh it's not just you. I've been frustrated with the game recently, and this just pushed me over the boiling point. I think I need to either hang it up for a while or move on. Sorry if I seemed like a Debbie Downer.

How many games have you played with outside folks? I think you're letting the internet get you down rather than the game. I played three great games at the Annihilationing against armies with some of the new hotness (Admech, Knights and Chapter Smasher, Flyrants ho!) and had a great time. The internet reverb makes everything worse than it actually is. Get out there and play some games with new people.

I played for a couple months at the GG league, and try to get pickup games whenever. Formations and multi cad armies are not what I enjoy playing with or against, but they're the reality now. Just need to accept it and move on.

I guess I don't understand how Formations/Multi-Cad are any worse than any of the other bugbears that have existed for the last 20 years. The worst abuser lists have always been in the game and been a challenge to play against. This event is dialing that back with self-imposed comp.

Honestly the comments weren't based on your list Pretre. I don't think it is the most competitive and therefore fine to bring along, as is the CAD formation guard. Based on the Scenarios from last year (Which may be rearing their head again, wink wink) both lists proposed would have tremendous fun playing them. Feel free to ask VonHammer how he got on playing a pretty competitive Space Wolf Army last year headed by Father Christmas and a pack of Thunderwolves. He didn't get his own way from the scenarios at all.
