You guys are sooo funny :p today got a game in with nakedpanda. Super cool and nice guy. We chatted a bit about whfb and infinity. Also he has a biochem degree as well! So yea he brought some iss. Which is cool cause I've been really curious about them for my potential next impulse lol. He outplayed me badly I felt lol. I brought camouflage this time and he knew which one was my sniper and put his ninja in hidden deployment right next to it haha. [big bad swear word] lol! I think I killed his sniper after nate rolling my hmg shots, repairing, then trying again lol. His turn brought I think my favorite thing in that army being the flame bot down the side. Killed the Naga and immobilized my asura. Hsien played smoke peek a boo knocking the hmg bot off his perch. Something I cant remember needed an 18 or lower and I rolled a 20.. that's ok cause my luck changed quickly when sun Tzu decided to die to a flamethrower aro. Idk how on earth that happened failing 3 arm rolls.. He must have used my dice :) ended up on a draw cause scenerio was about controlling sections and hacking a few consoles. He has an amazingly painted army that he's a little too humble about :p but that's what makes him a great guy. Seriously excited to play him again sometime cause he taught me a lot! And the awesome terrain pieces I'll start working on putting stuff together!

Your rolls were frustrating to me, even though they were helping the Chris cause. You were a great presence on the table, and excellent company to keep. We will have more games for sure!

The Lu Duan has always been my best friend (a word to anyone at the tournament, I lean on the Lu Duan too much [but am AWESOMELY lucky with it!]). That game was the very first time I have ever lost Sun Tze to non crits! But it was a desperate attempt to stop a well played push to cover the primary routes of cover on my right flank.

Your having controlled so much area made my concentrated punches just not win any ground. Great work!

Hope all the terrain stuffs will help you guys get those tables rolled out!

Also I mentioned, and we played with, a rule that has served us well when playing on non infinity centered terrain. It is not an official rule, though it helped us out up here to get playing (using all the 40k terrain hahaha). Maybe you all will come up with a better iteration? At any rate it helps 'adapt' the rubble terrain to an infinity game.

-You may trace LoS/LoF IN to and OUT of a structure, you may not fire THROUGH said structure.

All in all Portland gamers, and the city itself, are an excellent lot! And I was extremely happy to see some of the lesser known games actually played! Your roads confuse me though. I just do not seem to be able to figure it out hahaha

Looking forward to seeing you all next weekend for the ITS event George is setting up!

Totally agree. I live just across the river and do my best to go to Portland as little as possible, and that is one of the main reasons. LOL! :) And I lived in Chicago for 5 years, too.

Looking forward to meeting you Saturday, NP!

DOH, i meant to say this! i talked to my friend from iowa, who i convinced to play and picked up tohaa, about this non-official rule and how i liked how it streamlined things a bit and made you able to use that terrain without feeling like you had no 'cover' wherever you hid!  kinda like how brad was saying using forests as a low vis zone and just adjusting other terrain to infinity!

tim, im a very good navigator and driver and it took me FOREVER to figure out how to get to my freaking apartment for at least 2-3 months(ask evan 'sigh' lol) which is embarrassing but marquam hill is freaking confusing!  i just got slightly lost last week taking an alt route home trying to wing it lol.  that saying, id still rather drive in pdx than chicago.   they are polar opposite driving styles imo.   pdx at least seems to have more overly cautious drivers than crazy ones.  chicago has the worst... although that saying we are definitely as a country safer drivers than others.  I thought i was going to die on a Bus in belize once... and Rome its even scary to cross the street as a pedestrian hahahahaha

alright here's one of my lists probably for the weekend.  although its hard for me to choose between machaon and pheonix :) machaon is probably better for its so i should probably stick to what i generally do... but 'eh' here's my idea.  i always bring the proxy girls pretty much.  they are just so cheap, by aleph standards, for what they do that i dont mind that they only generate 1 order(goes both ways as you have to kill both to negate that order).  ive only used the naga and dasyu once but man it just seems like night and day for how much board coverage i have when i play those two along with the proxy girls.  the fact you can make both specialists as well is also pretty awesome.  i have still yet to use my asura effectively i feel.  i may decide to downgrade her but i do need msv in my list... so probably not lol.  im really starting to dig dakini point wise.  stinks that they have no ARM but they do have to take 3 wounds to die outright and they dont drop prone so its fun to hide behind them with things when they do go down.  also works well with the asura(along with hmg TR bot).  paramedics are terrible but 2 point bump for a specialist is the main reason.  plus dakini are 6-4 so they scoot.  problem will be ease of getting objectives but hoping the 'somewhat' camo spam will keep my opponent a little off the gas peddle.  being a little risky with the garuda because i have yet to use it.... i might change that out with something more reliable.  but a combat jump bs12 with mimetism is pretty nice.  so many tough choices... you want to play them all lol

forgive me nate, but am i missing a rule about the AI beacons? It seems like they wouldn't be much help in a different combat group?

Order Pool example A player has an Army List with 12 Regular troopers divided in two Combat Groups of 8 and 4 troopers respectively. She has two Order Pools, one with 8 Regular Orders and a second one with 4 Regular Orders. She could use her 8 Regular Orders in the first Order Pool to activate the 8 troopers in that Combat Group once. She could also give all those Orders to a single trooper, activating it 8 times. Alternatively, she could give 4 Orders to one trooper, 3 to another and 1 to a third trooper. She can assign those 8 Orders in any combination within the first Combat Group, and do the same with the 4 Regular Orders available for the second Combat Group. What she cannot do is use orders from the first Combat Group to activate troopers in the second Combat Group, or vice versa.

you can move them over with command tokens as tim said.  but the main reason is a special rule involving G:jumper.  i think it might be unique to aleph but idk.  AI Beacons are a safety net for them so you dont lose your active proxy.  that way it can jump to the other proxy if the active one dies.  plus if you kill one of the proxies then technically i can theoretically increase my order pool to 10 by moving a netrod lol.  its kinda weird.  but fun!

So I'll post my lists whenever I get my internet back. Short summary: I did better than I thought I would but man I swear I'll kill for average luck any day lol.

First game was against Tim. Epic game. He killed my hmg bot and asura first turn so that was a stinger. My mk2 was a champ. Along with the deva with bot. We had what was about as close to a draw as you can get lol. I stole objectives at the last second with my hidden deployment fasting.

Second game I got completely outplayed and felt foolish lol. Used Marut for first time ever. Retrospective I should not have done that. She died to a 6 point crazy Scot. Pretty hilarious. Then I forgot I had to be in base to base to get an objective and could have easily done so. Stupid me lol. So I got schooled that game. Note to self never bring a TAG against ariadna lol

Last game was against military orders. Another crazy awesome game. Hmg bot got killed on an aro critical. Basically I got critical brutalized this game. Once again the deva and mk2 were saviors and made things interesting.

I think after these games I'm seeing what I like and don't. The asura has just been so mediocre for me which most I think is bad luck but eh it's also 70 point sink that just hasn't been justified. So I think I'm going to switch her out and try something else now. The TAG I feel I made just a bad mistake in matchup. Also lost the hmg bot to some bad luck really hurt the board control. So I'm going to start playing lists without an asura and see what happens.

Oh! I total forgot the Marut can use a single explosive burst. That would have changed a lot what happened lol. Learn so much in this game.. So much fub

I'll write up a more detailed report of my own 3 games, but for now Nate, just wanted to say that you have a -very- good idea: swap out the Asura for some other stuff and get a feel to see if there are options you like more. Most armies have large enough variety that you can try different things for many, many games until you find something you like... OR decide another army might be better for you.

After today I've now played 8 games total now (I think), and I've played about half the models my force list has available. It's awesome fun experimenting with new stuff. I know you've been getting lots of games in too and maybe you'd had a chance to try everything out, but different combos -definitely- have different effects,

All I know is, all your NWI and TO made me jealous! :P

Yea forgetting the explosive round really would have changed what I did and more than likely she would live or probably die to something else lol Oh well. So I think what I'll do is get rid of the asura and bring scyla with 2 bots and the Msv2 deva with spitfire. No joke they are actually cheaper lol. And the hacker with 2 devabot will just crush the insane amount of HI links I'm seeing.

new twist on a 300 ITS.  no asura.  think its time for something else to die in her place :P  more orders.  more board coverage. both substitutes for the asura carry components she offers with more orders and board coverage but obviously quite less durable is tradeoff.  i have 5 sacrificial lambs in this list which is kinda fun.  the devabots ive just had a bunch of fun playing.  i remember brad saying how much he enjoyed using the flame bots and i have as well!  no doctor but two paramedics for objectives. scylla is as good as i thought she was after playing her last game.  should have brought her saturday... and i added my first time using an airborne deployment!  ill probably always use the sideboard infiltration cause its safer... someday ill use the ekdromoi if i run steel for kicks but the whole frenzy on a drop troop is a little dicey lol. this list really is to my style i think.  the hacker is the worst hacker in aleph at wip 13 but nothing will really want to get close to her with two repeater devabots and she has a shotgun lol.  so the stupid HI link teams will just say NOPE when they see her... and i added the msv2 deva with spitfire.  that one im not so confident about and might switch for something else but ill leave it for the time being.

So peanut and I got a game in tonight at red castle! I played the list above. I think I'm going to take a nakedpanda approach and sit on this list and learn the crap out of it. I really enjoyed it. He took out the netrods and the zayin first turn and I was totally fine with that because it left me with 9 orders in my main group and I expect them to die:) I unfortunately got all my flame fun stuck in a corner due to his very nasty sniper locking them down. My scary stuff came on the other side being the dasyu garuda and mk2. That's where most of the action occurred and my dasyu went down along with my garuda and naga. Garuda just got a bit unlucky but dasyu and naga did excellent again. They exchanged deaths with a crocman and whoever the holoprojector guy and his flame team. I liked the msv2 deva. He helped majorly in ridding of the sniper. He was really my only realistic shot in killing that sniper. Peanuts bold move in running his combi bot up payed huge dividends as he got an objective to tie and then killed my hacker in an aro to prevent me from going up and seizing the lead again. Crazy and fun game again with peanut. They keep getting better!

I really think the mk2 is the nastiest thing in the aleph arsenal imo. Sure you give up your surprised shot when you activate it but it's a bloody 24 point [big bad swear word]ing bs13 TO sniper.. it's really the piece that has almost always made its points back. Only nakedpanda has ever offed it before it got its value. The naga is amazing due to minelayer. I'm really hesitant to ever use the regular or monofilament version just because laying two camo markers down is so annoying to my opponent. I almost want to run two of them lol. Also dogged is great. But alas I need ITS things. I forgot to say the dakini played a nice role and one succeeded in an objective. They give a nice versatility to the list with speedy cheap objective achievers.

monofilament is always good.  especially against multi wound things and TAGs.  im not going to give away too much strategy(thats a bad habit of mine lol) but ive thought it through quite a bit and there's reasons why ill generally stick to the minelayer.  but you may or may not see the monofilament version when we have TAG day

  • 2 weeks later...

so after my third time brewing in a week(making an ESB today, kegging porter and berliner weiss as well) ill start focusing on infinity projects during my down time.  ive assembled my other throw pieces from warsenal being 2 tanks and ive put together some throw terrain from the box of 'lots of stuff'.  think i can make 1-2 small buildings from it as well.  so that will be my objective this week!  along with painting my stuff specifically that i will be using for that 300 pt list.  got a base coat on most of them.

as for actual gaming, ive now played 3 games(2 at 300 and a shrunken version at 210) of my list and all have had success.  i think not having a gigantic point sink in one model is helping me a bit.  i like the asura it's just it NEVER got its points worth.  on top of that it only creates 1 order for 70 points.  having more orders has really helped.   last game was with exile and it was one of those crazy rolling days, this time in DPs favor lol.  i think he failed pretty much all his dodges and i crit'd once on a 3...  the mk2 is just nasty.  i honestly dont care that i lose the surprise shot cause an example in points cost for one that does is the dasyu sniper which is 18 points more and worse stats.  im guessing eventually she will get a price hike sometime...

for the 210 game: exile got first turn and i took a defensive stance with the high tower for the sniper.  naga minelayer did his usual negate area so he brought his father knight down the side right in view of hidden mk2 and i had to resist shooting in ARO really cause he had a spitfire.  his other hmg took on my TR bot and he had one pip of BS shot better than me but the dice went my way... he did kill my netrod though.  my T1: shot at FK in active turn with B2 vs dodge was the way to go i think with mk2.  got 1W on him but he failed his guts and got in total cover from the sniper.  then brought on the garuda who eventually died as usual in the following turn but pressured FK to dodge again and he was the one who got a lucky crit on i think a bolt in the back of the board area.  i brought up a few guys with a  command token and made a pretty risky run with my deva + bot.  the first part was less risky as they both got point blank shots on the FK finishing him off cause Exile pretty much failed every dodge roll... then went rambo up at his line.  deva was behind a building luckily and dodged once the bot got murdered in Exile's T2 to be protected from LoF of both the sniper and TR bot. sniper got the guy who got the bot though as he had view to where he went to get out of devabot's flame reach.  i think in his T3 he finally got a shot to go through on my TR bot with a spitfire but i passed my ARM test.  then with my final turn i just ran up to the unconcious garuda with yudbot to get an objective for fixing him.  very slim report but so far enjoying my lists.  people are going to get use to my tricks though i feel soon lol.  or at least fear where the mk2 could be...

rules note:  i see nothing in the rulebook that says REMs dont take guts tests so idk where that came from but please post if you know where it is!  also remote presence grants valor:courage which specifically says you can choose your guts decision so that would be counter-intuitive i think to saying they dont get a guts option... eh didnt impact the game at all cause i couldnt improve cover but it could in the future :)  it is an important note though that REMs cannot drop prone so that is not an option for a guts decision..
