AbusePuppy
As interesting as that idea is, fluger, I can't even begin to imagine how complex of an algorithm you'd need to make something like that "fair," nevermind even trying to decide what "fair" even means. I mean- what about mandatory choices? Tau, Orks, Necrons, DE, and SoB all have two or fewer Troops choices- functionally, that means that if anyone is playing those armies, their troops will continue to go up and up in cost, no matter how bad they are (because they are a fundamental requirement for using every other unit in the army.) That artificially inflates the "value" of these units, even when no one actually wants to use them. Similarly, if you are basing your algorithm on raw numbers of appearances of a unit or model, "elite" forces will always be underrepresented- you can bring, at most, five Knights in an army (and there are enough different types that you typically will see significant variation in which ones people use), but it's a simple matter to cram three or ten Rhinos into a force that contains tons of other stuff. On the other hand, if you use a binary (present/not present in the army) then you're punishing taking, say, a single unit of three Jetbikes just as hard as you are taking six full units of Scat Packs, which clearly isn't what the algorithm is intended to do.
