Battlefront Demos NOV & DEC – Team Yankee - Open Fire – and more

1. WE WANT YOU

The Rose City Dukes and Duchesses are looking for volunteers to run demo games of Battlefront products.
This includes, but is not limited to, ‘Flames of War’ and ‘Team Yankee’.
You can either team up with someone who has already signed up, or recruit some buddies and do demos with them.

barca has already reserved a table for DEC 5 and DEC 12 for Open Fire! demos, but needs a partner.  See section 11, below.

ZeroMoon 17 and barca will be running Team Yankee demos on DEC 19 and 21. See section 11, below.

2. WHAT

We  should cover as many of the Battlefront game systems as possible:
FoW=‘Flames of War’
TY=‘Team Yankee’
FOAN=Fate of a Nation
GW=Great War
TOD=Tour of Duty
BWN=Brown Water Navy
 
3. WHEN
# # # # #
In 2015, November and December, any time that GG is open, provided that you have a table reservation.
The schedule below (section 11) is simply a starting point.
In 2016, we will continue and expand our demos throughout the year.
 
4. WHERE:
# # # # # # # # # # # # #
In 2015, November and December, we are focusing on GG – Guardian Games, in Portland (this thread).
If you prefer another location to run a demo, that is OK. Just let us know on this thread, so we can help promo the event.
In 2016, we will expand out to other stores in OR and WA. Look for a new forum thread, to be started in December (“Battlefront Demos in PNW – 2016”).
 
5. HOW:

Models and Rules
For Flames of War, we encourage (but not require) you to use the ‘Open Fire!’ starter box (abbreviated here as ‘OF’), as that product is optimized for new players. If you use OF, do use the OF rule book, and DO NOT use the FoW rule book.

 

If you do not use Open Fire!, then keep your armies and missions as simple as possible, and avoid special rules and warriors.
 
For ‘Team Yankee’ (abbreviated here as ‘TY’), use the initial release products: ‘Team Yankee, World War III’ 120-page rulebook, ‘Bannon's Boys’ and ‘Potecknov's Bears’.
 
If you have never done a demo before, the core of it is simple:
Demonstrate a simple game with your partner.
Try to engage people who show an interest, get them to play, tell them about the game, and answer their questions.
If they do play, the objective is that they have fun, and find it engaging.
Don’t go outside the rule set that is set for the demo.
If your partner does not show, or is late, then begin setting up.
If still no partner after setup, then you can play both sides, or try to engage passersby, if they look interested.
If you find yourself alone, and feel uncomfortable, then let the Game Store staff know you are ending the event, and try to reschedule.
After the event, send us a forum message on what you did and how it went. We’d like to hear from you.
 
6. PROMOTION:

As soon as we have at least 2 or 3 solid demo commitments, we will:
-- e-mail the GG staff. The events might or might not get onto their Facebook page.
-- post the events on Ordo Fanaticus – forum thread and calendar
-- display placards at the events that barca is attending, with the details of your demo.
 
The GG calendar will have your event posted, based on your table reservation.
 
As more commitments are made, we will update this thread, the placards, postings and calendars.
If you have your own channels to promote the events, then please do so.
 
7. MINIATURES:

If barca is also signed up, then both Axis and Allied minis (or US and Soviet) will be supplied by him (OF and TY).
If not, then one or both of the volunteers will bring painted models from the Open Fire starter box, or TY initial release boxes, or 500-750 point simple armies if using army lists in the GW/FOAN/TR/BWN game system.
 
8. TABLE RESERVATIONS:

When you make the reservation, in the section “What games are you playing?”, enter
'Battlefront Team Yankee Demos', or 'Battlefront Open Fire Demos', etc.
If barca is also signed up, then he has already made the reservation and confirmed it.
If not, then one of the volunteers is responsible for making a table reservation 2 or more days in advance, using the online form at

For OF demos, you must use the Booklet in the OF starter box, or the FREE PDF ruleset for Open Fire! (OF-RuleBooklet-LowRes.pdf , see below).
 
If barca is your partner, he will have a copy of rules and stat sheets, but you must read the rules beforehand. They are a reduced rule set, when compared to the 3rd ed. FoW rulebook.
Ensure that one of the people running the demo has the rule book and stat sheets on hand for the event.
 
Team Stat sheets are included in the Open Fire Starter box.

If you have your own recon or transport forces that are compatible with OF forces, then you can add them to your demo, provided that your new players are up to handling an expansion of the OF ruleset.
Transport and recon are NOT included in the OF box set. The rules to use them are in the PDF downloads, listed below. Do NOT use the rules in the main Rulebook. If using these rule sheets, then print them out in advance to show your players.

Other opportunities coming, just not on the calendar, yet.

We plan on having demos of most of the BF game systems throughout 2016.

 

Depending, of course, on volunteer support.

Although Lord Hanaur seems capable of playing both sides of a table, I cannot.

I do not have his Marvel Super Heroes special abilities to pull off such a feat.

So demos without L.H. will require two players.
