MERDC Camouflage, what does it mean? http://gurth.home.xs4all.nl/afv/merdc.html

NOTE: "...Any of the MERDC schemes could be found with either hard edges (hand-painted) or soft edges (spray-painted) to the colour patches. Soft-edged patterns seem to be more common..."

The color schemes on Battlefront pics of their T-72s look like sun-bleached museum pieces, or sun-bleached tanks in Afghanistan.

I think their research is usually really good.  However, occasionally, I disagree with their end result. The Soviet tank and helo color schemes are two of those occasions.

When it comes to paint colors, unfortunately Battlefront will use the "home brand" over anything else... even if it isn't quite right.  Their new line is a bit limited, and I understand they're working with "scale color" and colors designed to have washes over them - which works just fine for infantry, but much less well for armored vehicles.
